### "Squarespace is great for ecommerce"

May 4, 2022

4.0

When I was looking to design a professional site with portfolio options, I did some research and decided to go with Squarespace because the promotion price for the first year, the options, and the template styles seemed to fit the bill. I had the website live for one year and decided not to renew when it came due for one reason, I decided that I could move my site somewhere else for less. Squarespace performed well, had tons of features and editing options, looked good, and made me look like I knew what I was doing (as far as web design goes) but in the end, the pricing was a more than I was willing to pay.

Pros

I liked the template choices, the portfolio building options, the pre-designed yet editable pages. The sites are slick looking and can be as simple or as complicated as you want.

Cons

In the end, the features offered weren't enough for the annual fee. If I was setting up a full-scale ecommerce site, I believe the fee would be absolutely worth it as there are A LOT of cool ecommerce features.

### "Incredibly easy website management"

April 22, 2019

5.0

I help manage several Squarespace websites, and have found it very intuitive and quick to set up and edit pages. It's easy to manage your plan and I haven't found their campaigning to be annoying at all while a plan is active or after it's been disabled. Overall, I've been really happy with the experience of using Squarespace and have recommended it anytime someone is looking to set up a new site.

Pros

There's a reason that these guys are probably the most well-known website solution product out there. The user interface is super slick, and so easy to use. The price is right for what you can do once you get your feet under you. I've worked with a handful of different websites in Squarespace now, and it makes it easier to recommend it each time I set up or collaborate on a site. The knowledge base content is pretty comprehensive and I've never had an issue finding an answer to a question. There's a (fairly new, I think) mobile app that is handy to have access to while on the go. Pages that are deleted can be recovered, making it easier to trust handing the keys over to someone to get familiar with it. There's options to sell products directly from your site, which means one less thing to set up elsewhere.

Cons

The templates are pretty limiting. You can try them out, but honestly, with the options that are there, there really seems to be just 3 or 4 general layouts with minor differences template-to-template. There are some annoying little things like not being able to move a gallery of images from one page to another unless it's been saved as a gallery, but they're all minor things that can be avoided as you become more familiar with the platform.

### "The All-in-One Website Building and Hosting Solution"

February 28, 2023

4.0

Overall, Squarespace is a powerful and user-friendly website builder and hosting platform that provides a comprehensive solution for individuals, businesses, and organizations to create and manage professional-looking websites and online stores, with some limitations in terms of flexibility, pricing, and integrations.

Pros

Squarespace has a user-friendly interface that is easy to navigate and use, even for those with little to no web development experience. It offers a variety of customizable templates that allow users to create unique and visually appealing websites, with little effort. Also has many built-in features, such as analytics, SEO optimization, e-commerce functionality, and mobile optimization, that make it a comprehensive and all-in-one solution. It provides reliable website hosting, ensuring that users' websites are up and running at all times.

Cons

I personally find the limited flexibility of its templates, pricing, learning curve, and limited integrations to be potential drawbacks of Squarespace. Its integrations are with third-party apps and tools are not as extensive as other website builders, which can limit its functionality.

### "Out of all the website hosts I have found Squarespace to have the best templates and interface."

July 4, 2018

5.0

A clean professional looking website with easy to modify templates. I've also never had my site go offline or become 'slow-loading' when trying to view. Server issues are virtually non-existent and that's important with a business website.

Pros

The templates are number 1 for what I like most about Squarespace. They are professionally designed in a way that is highly customizable and very clean looking. You can have a great looking website quickly and with customization you can make it look original. I started using Squarespace over 4 years ago and still haven't come across a better website builder and host. The interface for adding content is a more accurate WYSIWYG(what you see if what you get) management system. Anybody can signup with Squarespace and adjust a template of their choice quickly and aesthetically with the admin interface. There is also advanced options for adding in your own code when needed. I've tried many hosts in the pasts and usually website builders are riddled with issues in spacing, formatting and errors - squarespace just doesn't have this...and for that reason it's a pleasure to use.

Cons

Price. Unfortunately Squarespace has gone up in price over the years for monthly and annual plans. If the cost is within your budget then it's highly recommended.

### "The game changer software!!!"

May 2, 2023

5.0

Pros

Website creation was quite simple, and using it is a delight. The interface is pretty easy to work around, not confusing at all. All presets' construction is their most outstanding feature. Regardless of whether you are not a pro, it will look sophisticated. It is simple to pick from the variety of templates to create your own design.

Cons

The subscription fee is sometimes a lot for me. It is a bit restricted unlike its competition which is Wix.com that offers creative control. Squarespace is more structured.

### "Expensive but essential!"

January 6, 2024

4.0

Pros

I love the wide variety of quality templates you can create off of - it makes it much less overwhelming to start designing a website. The builder itself is also very intuitive to use and flexible, so if you're more experienced, you can play around with cool designs!

Cons

It's quite expensive, which creates a barrier to entry for myself and other small creators, because I'm not an established business yet. And, even though I'm paying for a premium account, I still don't have access to essential business tools (email marketing)

### "Beautiful Templates but lacking in Clarity and Customer Support"

August 8, 2019

5.0

The intent of this site was I thought to make it possible for anyone to easily create their own website and get it up and running quickly. I didn't get that and felt I was making compromises again and again. I started a blog on Squarespace with the intent of linking it to my website - Squarespace said it would be a seamless process - followed the instructions could never get it to happen so it's still not linked. There was a challenge with my G Suite registration when I went to renew and after days of frustration and the risk of losing my domain I found out it was something on the Squarespace side that had not been completed. Definitely not what I thought I was getting.

Pros

I am an experiential designer so my website needs to really give a potential client a feel for what I do. After looking at several products available I selected Squarespace because I felt their esthetic best fit mine. There many beautiful templates to choose from.

Cons

I'm not a web designer but have clear sense of what I want my website to look like. I thought starting with a template close to where I would like the final site to be like would make the process easier and I could get it done on my own. Not the case. Step by step instructions are lacking in information. Inserting text and content is complicated and the final results were not what I originally thought I was getting and found myself making compromises left and right. The template you choose is populated with the elements (font & images) that caught your eye but you have to remove it all to build your content. If half way through you realize as I did this might be the best way to display my images after all you have to start all over again nothing transfers.

Alternatives considered

Reason for choosing Squarespace

Squarespace looked more sophisticated. The Squarespace templates looked closer to what I wanted for my finished look. For me to get to the same place on WIX or Wordpress it was, it appeared, to be more work for me. I did trials on both but really wasn't that excited by what was possible but the directions and steps were much easier to follow.

### "A Fantastic Product With an Achilles' Heel"

August 31, 2021

5.0

Squarespace is a great product to create a beautiful website. However, that beautiful website is beyond slow on many devices, and could significantly hurt businesses (especially e-commerce stores) in the long run. If they resolved the page speed issues, I would recommend it to almost anyone, but given that the end websites are so massive, I would highly recommend people think twice before committing to Squarespace.

Pros

Squarespace makes beautiful sites easy and simple to build/deploy. Once set up, people from almost any background can easily add content, significantly reducing the barrier of entry to web design. It also reduces IT cost over a self-hosted solution.

Cons

I wish it had native internationalization for the end site, and that you could develop custom post types. However, the biggest problem Squarespace faces is the inefficiency of the end sites. They consistently score red in Lighthouse performance and involve insane amounts of Javascript. It is bad even compared to other website builders and is unacceptable in 2021. Their documentation blames end users for making inefficient sites, yet they have shown little interest in reducing page size. If you care about performance (which you should), proceed with extreme caution before choosing Squarespace.

### "Squarespace Review"

January 7, 2021

5.0

Overall I love Squarespace. My site runs smoothly I have not had any complaints from customers of card sales not going through of the site not working properly. I do use this app on a daily bases updating inventory, changing images and checking analytics for my social post to see the increase of traffic.

Pros

What I like most about Squarespace software is that it is very user friendly. It has up to date functions and accessibility for you to use other apps in combination with this app. I also like that there is a scheduling feature to take appointments. As a Cosmetologist this was very important to me as a buyer.

Cons

A feature that I like the least would be the shipping page on the features within the website. I feel that it could be more simplified or more automated to link with shipping rates based on the weight and measurements of the product. I figured it out eventually but honestly that part of setting up my site was a headache.

### "The hype of squarespace"

May 16, 2023

5.0

Overall, Squarespace provides perfection to its users in the sense of being a website builder for creative people. With relation to other website builders, Squarespace looks impeccable and fresh, as well as easy to use. Squarespace also serve's a wide range of users in accordance to many features such as, appointment booking, reservations, ecommerce, and templates.

Pros

\- The designs and templates which are offered by squarespace are well optimized and designed for mobile phones as well as tablets. - Content creation tools allow for an ideal creation of videos which can also be edited and shared to any social media account- Squarespace's customer support is excellent. The live chats allow me to gain answers within minutes. The support team of Squarespace also shows exact steps to follow if you are experiencing a problem.

Cons

\- Poor speed of page. This has led to a decrease of the user experience on mobile devices. - Sub-navigation. Due to the fact that there is only one sub-navigation, Squarespace is not suited for bigger websites. Therefore, one cannot create bilingual websites using Squarespace.

### "Excellent program for the price"

Squarespace has been a great addition to our company and has allowed me to take control of managing, editing, and creating content easily. The customer service is great and they help you pretty quickly when there are problems or you need additional assistance getting things set up!

Pros

I like the ease of use. You can make changes, edits or additions within minutes. You can customize and ensure the mobile view is correct and it has all the features you need to build a business. You don't need a lot of experience to use the system but you will need to familiarize yourself with some of the advanced features.

Cons

I would like more options for mail integrations besides Mailchimp. I would also like to see some of the features being added to include calendar integrations without the extra charge.

### "Best Option for Site Hosting for Anyone"

June 29, 2022

5.0

I originally tried out Squarespace for a class project in college back in 2012, and was impressed, and that was when my coding knowledge wasn't so rusty. I was able to build an online portfolio and make it look exactly how I wanted to. A few years later, I helped my mom, who is a singer/songwriter, set up her website with Squarespace and we have been able to set up an online shop for CDs and mp3s, upload preview tracks, have her blog, etc. I knew when I started my piano studio that I would 100% be using Squarespace again for my business. I recommend them to people all the time.

Pros

I've been using Squarespace since 2012 for various purposes, most recently for the main site for my piano studio. What I've always loved about them is that you can use one of their templates (which are all great), code the entire site yourself, or a mix of the two. Pricing is great, and there are a lot of ways to integrate ecommerce, scheduling, and more. Squarespace is absolutely packed with features but you can use as many or as few as you'd like.

Cons

The only aspect of Squarespace that's been somewhat annoying to deal with is the scheduling through Acuity - it can be a bit finnicky.

### "Good site builder"

January 24, 2024

5.0

Great for a start up company such as ourselves, but it's only as good as we are, hence the templates are a welcome starting point. A site by a professional designer will always look better due to the above. This is not a criticism of Squarespace but an observation of its limitations.

Pros

Easy to learn. Easy to navigate. Basics such as security are set up in all templates for you.

Cons

No option to build a sales funnel. Would like more 'options' for the title bar and banner image that can be applied to all templates.

### "Squarespace is my favorite web design platform as a boutique web designer"

October 4, 2020

5.0

I love Squarespace. I've been using it for over 3 years and have been able to quickly produce several websites with it. I'm a little disappointed by how much Squarespace is limited on design, but the tradeoff is worth it with how easy their platform integrates e-commerce, email marketing, scheduling, and inventory management all-in-one.

Pros

Squarespace is clean, sophisticated, modern, easy to use, and has built-in features such as domain purchasing, email marketing, scheduling, and e-commerce that make it easy to run a business. With Squarespace, I can trust that my clients will be able to manage their website 100% by themselves once I finish designing it for them. With other platforms (like Wordpress), I cannot guarantee the same. I also like how transparent Squarespace's pricing and plans are. It's so easy to upgrade or downgrade as your needs change. In Squarespace, I can design a high-quality website extremely fast and share the draft with my clients easily.

Cons

Squarespace is the least flexible of all the web design platforms that I work with in terms of design customization. There are a lot of different types of widgets and ways to display content that simply aren't available on Squarespace because the platform limits what you can change in the design (probably to prevent websites from turning out bad). I've also noticed that Squarespace websites typically load slower than some of the websites I've built on other platforms like Webflow and Duda.

Alternatives considered

[Ghost](https://www.capterra.com/p/151947/Ghost/)[Webflow](https://www.capterra.com/p/136159/Webflow/)[WordPress](https://www.capterra.com/p/131687/WordPress/)[Duda](https://www.capterra.com/p/134280/DudaMobile/)[Shopify](https://www.capterra.com/p/83891/Shopify/)

Reason for choosing Squarespace

I can guarantee that all of my clients will be able to manage their website on their own, without any previous of website design knowledge or skills. Squarespace also has some of the best support articles and tutorials, so it saves me time answering customer questions.

### "Best Content Management System Platform on the web!"

September 22, 2019

5.0

Squarespace has been my favorite Content Management System platform by far. As a graphic designer who works in only print, I only use minimal CSS coding to build my website. It saves me a lot of time and money from having to hire a web developer, or use something free and risk having a lower quality website.

Pros

Squarespace is a pretty powerful blogging and Ecommerce platform. It enables designers with or without knowledge of coding to build stunning websites. There are many fully responsive templates to choose from in different categories that are completely customizable, and can can be switched up at anytime. You have the ability to customize your website with a little bit of CSS coding. There are a few plans to choose from, from personal to Ecommerce, and everything you need is included. One thing that sells me on Squarespace is that the itemized cost is simple and there are no additional third party web hosting, templates, or plug-ins, which is the case for platforms such as Wordpress. Websites are beautifully optimized for mobile web and requires no extra work to optimize. I have had great experiences with customer service being very responsive and helpful.

Cons

Squarespace is more advanced than other quick and easy website building platforms, so it is a bit of a learning curve that just takes time and patience. Another downfall is that although there are many templates to choose from, they are limiting to suit your needs as certain styles lack all of the features that other styles might have, such as blogging side bars and second navigation bars.

### "My Squarespace Website is Fantastic"

November 30, 2022

5.0

It was easy to develop my website, just took a lot of time due to the thousands of items I had to list. When I had questions in the beginning, their support area/live chat helped me every time.

Pros

When I was looking around for a new website platform, this one fit the huge amount of products I sell. I'm a composer and arranger, with several thousand download items in over 50 ensemble categories. Not many platforms I researched were even in the ballpark.

Cons

I have used several website/shopping cart platforms. All of them (except Squarespace) had the ability to nest folders. It is the ONE thing I don't like about Squarespace...no folder nesting.

Reason for choosing Squarespace

I tried a couple of them out but they were cumbersome and not conducive to what I was needing to accomplish. And with Squarespace handling the hosting, easy design elements, my domain names all in one place, it was a nobrainer for me.

### "Very user friendly"

March 1, 2022

I used it personally for my own design brand. I just love the idea of putting my brand and work out there and have it linked to my instagram for anyone to get in touch.

Pros

I love that Squarespace is broken down for different types of businesses and that the templates could also be used across different types of content

Cons

I think the business plan should have another tier for independent business owners who don't sell too much on their site, but would like to have the commerce option but cheaper than 30$ a month.

Reason for choosing Squarespace

I think Squarespace is higher quality, and more professional looking.

### "An easy to implement, use and maintain website software"

December 13, 2022

5.0

Squarespace enabled a number of our staff to contribute to the website without major changes to the look and feel of the overall design. It was easy to introduce staff to the 'inner workings' and they very quickly grasped the concept of how it worked.

Pros

Squarespace is a great product for those who don't have a lot of experience in setting up a website from scratch. It can be set up by someone with minimal experience in website design, who can choose a template from the many that are available and then tailor it to suit their company colours and feel. You can activate google fonts to give it a more individual flavour and there is the facility to code if you need to customise it further. Others can be given various levels of access but don't have access to design features, which means there is consistent of feel across the website, even with several contributors, with no sudden change of a level one heading to comic sans italic (thank goodness!!) because they think it looks great!

Cons

As with most drag and drop websites, it may not be able to deliver some of the high end features a fully bespoke built for your context website can offer, but then that is not what it for. It is for those who want a good looking online presence that offers common features such as online store, email management etc.

### "Love hate relationship."

January 17, 2020

4.0

It’s a good option for the price, but as soon as I can afford more, I’m personally going to move on to a better website builder with more customization ability.

Pros

I love that it looks classy even if you’re not familiar with how to use website designing softwares. This is mostly due to the fact that they only allow certain liberties to the user unless the user knows code. In other words, they do not allow the user to make major changes to their templates, because they had professional designers put the templates together so they’d look great! And why let the user mess with a professionally designed look?

Cons

The fact that the user cannot change much means that intermediate users are out of luck. In my case, I am very familiar with how to make an appealing design, and I am also familiar with website builders in general, BUT I do not know coding so I can’t change details that way. Because I know more than a beginner, I get very frustrated at the limitations in design that I am dealt by Squarespace. For instance, they only allow 3 font styles throughout the site, which I understand is a great design approach, but sometimes a different font size or color is NEEDED. Just saying! (Particular afternoon campaign you might want to feature on a particular page, a slight color variation so it shows up better on a photo, etc.)

Reason for choosing Squarespace

Mainly, the price for the options offered seemed fair and good for my finances in where I’m currently at with my business.

Wix makes it a little too much work by not having a design portion with preset margins and fonts and what not. I do like that Squarespace lets me set my basics and applies them site wide.

### "Still Prefer SquareSpace over WordPress"

December 4, 2018

4.0

They are my go-to builder for new clients that want the ability to make edits and changes on their own in the future without causing confusion. Less headache than WP and WIX which are other builders I am familiar with.

Pros

Updates on it's own, unlike WordPress which updates could break 3rd party applications or templates, and happens all the time. Great for first time users to figure out what they are doing fairly simply. Has great tutorials, help, chat, twitter support, and customer service is much better than WordPress' non existent support.

Cons

They change their pricing constantly without any advanced notice ever. In the past 6 years I've built client sites on this platform, they just keep upping the price for everyone. They offer ZERO affiliate solutions, just a discounted first year off for multiple builds and circle members. They have a JavaScript rendering that makes all sites slower than they should be and have not addressed this not playing to well with Page Load Speed or Google Analytics. They don't particularily care either. Their customer support can get behind quite often, resulting in a solution that comes long after you needed it.

### "Every Website We Build Starts with Squarespace"

October 7, 2020

4.0

Years ago, when I started my marketing agency, I would pander to my clients. This one wanted WordPress - another wanted Joomla. The technology was too much to handle, and the site quality decreased as a result. After years of working with WordPress, we decided to only build on Squarespace. It's been a great choice that has helped us grow our portfolio immensely.

Pros

Squarespace has made it super simple to create a new website. Every single website we build now is on the Squarespace platform - and that's for a reason! The software is user-friendly, the buildouts are quick and painless, and the customers are always happy with the finished product.

Cons

Styling and formatting could be easier on the Squarespace builder. I hate posting up images on pages and blog posts. There's no easy way to resize the images and ensure they look good. I also hate the blog formatting. I want my blog to be aesthetically pleasing - instead, it looks like a robot just spit it out.

It just means that the user has to be more careful about making mistakes of not saving or doing things that cannot be undone. I am very happy with the website I was able to customize and develop--without professional help or anything like that.

Pros

I love the analytics page on Squarespace. You can track how many visits per month you website receives, what device your clients are visiting the website on, and much more. The SEO also works well for getting your website more clicks from Google. It is very easy to follow the instructions and get this set up. You can also add multiple contributors to your website which makes it easy to collaborate with teammates. Overall, this is a very good service for building a professional looking website at a good price. Building the website is very self explanatory and easy to get the hang of.

Cons

The most frustrating aspect of Squarespace is that there is no undo button. If you make many changes and accidentally make a mistake, there is no way to undo the mistake--not even control Z works. It is also very easy to forget to click save; I would like it if Squarespace saved changes automatically. Also no more than one contributor can work on the website at once, which may cause problems sometimes.
