Pros I like that Squarespace has a mobile application that allows me to control and manage my website at any time anywhere quickly. Also, I love that I can import high image resolution to show it on my website without affecting the quality of the image. I can literally customize anything like headers. Cons The subscription is quite expensive compared to other competitors without any security services offered by Squarespace. It is a little bit difficult to get used to Squarespace as it needs some expertise. Also, Squarespace needs some improvements regarding the e-commerce side. Review Source TI Tawhidul I. December 23, 2022 4.0 Over the last two years, I've been using Squarespace, and I couldn't be happier with the outcome. I went from Joomla to Squarespace because I wanted a different option that would be easier to use and understand while still producing a stunning, polished website. Pros I like its ease of use. Using SquareSpace made all of these possible within the shortest time available. I was able to easily navigate the SquareSpace builder, as well as get the website hosted within a very short time. Cons I think support for frameworks like React JS would be a great addition. Squarespace makes it easy for a novice to create a nice website and online presence with the ability to choose from several different preset templates that can be adjusted. More advanced users can also design a site more to their needs. They have also grown over the years to help you with domains and their activity scheduling software is great for hair salons and others who need to be able to schedule a client visit in a place they can pay in advance. Cons While Squarespace touts the ability to create a general website, I still feel like they are better as a storefront. Some of the general templates for a business site aren't incredibly eye-catching. The level of in-depth customization didn't match the capabilities of some competitors. It will need a little more time to be able to work at ease, however, when you do get the hang of it it becomes all worth it. Pros If you are looking for a domain which offers scores of options for templates, then this software is for you; as you can create a website that is both reliable and very pleasing to the eye. The price range is also flexible for people who are on a budget, and for people/businesses that are able to afford premium packages, there are added features such as discounts on transaction fees among other great things. Even though the workaround can be overwhelming, Squarespace will provide enough assistance to help you get a hang of things. Cons The thing I like the least is that it is not intuitive, you would need a little more work to familiarize yourself with the platform and how it works. All of the templates are beautiful, and the tool itself is as well. Cons SquareSpace is not made to be customizable--it's meant to be a very generic tool that has very specific capabilities. Trying to build in logins for a few separate pages, get rid of the navigation on your homepage, or even create an accordion-style FAQs page is difficult without coding experience (or entirely impossible). For someone who is not a designer, it makes building a website incredibly easy and enjoyable. Cons Adding images in + sizing them can be a bit tricky. You need to use the "spacer" blocks which can sometimes be difficult. I'd rather be able to drag the image size and scale it down. It's not as easy as other website builders to use but is a reliable tool. Pros I am always looking for website design programs/applications, especially as a tool to show students as the ability to design effective websites and share the knowledge they have gained with the world is an important skill. Having used and played with many website programs (wordpress, weebly, wix, Google Sites) etc, squareSpace definitely makes attractive websites or blogs. The G Suite interaction is a plus, especially for schools/students/users who live in the Google ecosystem. The editor allows for some fast touch ups and more inline/ tailored designs. Mobile designs and how the site works/looks on tablets and phones is really good. Also- the fact that everything is ad-free is great! Cons The plans are a little pricey, and their free version is only a trial. This is tough for the education market, especially when working with students. There is no multi-language support with the interface something to consider. The templates are nice, but some seem pretty flat. Not sure if this changes when on a premium or paid plan. One big hurdle is not having a way to revert to previous changes or restore older versions of your site. A big pain and hassle. Review Source Mike Pine |. But once you've built a whole website there, you're kind of stuck. I don't want to start from scratch somewhere else... Depressing. Pros Attractive design and quite easy to find your way around. It's nice that they provide some basic analytics and social media integration. Drag and drop functionality is always nice. Some nice templates to choose from. Cons They have some nice templates, but not enough, in my opinion. It'd be nice if they'd open it up to allow vetted third parties to offer their designs to supplement the Squarespace designs. I feel like I have to do a lot of manual editing to get the design how I want it, which negates the purpose of using a template in the first place. Unfortunately, even when using their manual editing tools, you are still quite restricted from making many kinds of changes. Every time I use Squarespace I feel like I should just learn to code to avoid this whole mess (but I really don't have the time or energy to do so...). Also, they really need more and better fonts! And finally, I hate it that you are restricted from adding header/footer code for analytics unless you upgrade to a higher tier. That seems ridiculous. There are several features that are restricted in this way. I could see this if they offered a free or very low priced version, but even the lowest tier is fairly pricey. Very frustrating. April 18, 2018 5.0 This allows my clients to build a website practically overnight. It's easy to update your own content and you don't need to know CSS or HTML. Pros I'm a big fan of Squarespace. For myself, I do use WordPress as my CMS, but for clients and one-off projects, Squarespace has definitely been the way to go. This drag and drop website builder is very straightforward and the variety of templates means it should work for whatever your business/industry is. Cons I wish there was more ability to customize things on the backend for SEO purposes and the ability to adjust some of the template pieces like removing a hamburger menu or changing the default spacing would be amazing. I really like how they have different ways to show you how to start making the website. I like how you can put the payment plan on your website and your different payments. However, Squarespace is a very close second for small boutiques and highly end brands who need a fast and gorgeous site without many bells and whistles Pros It's simple to get going and robust enough for alot of customization. The building blocks don't really leave much to the imagination - but the limited options allow for very focused work with a good quality result, no matter the skill level. Cons Managing a lot of products is a pain - bulk editing is non-existent. Can't setup custom shipping options - not good when you have custom packaging. Locks you into using only companies they partner with. The new Squarespace version 7.1 isn't intuitive and honestly a step back from their high quality and simple approach. It's a step not exactly backwards, but more to the side. Same amount of clicks to edit things, more design limits on certain aspects, more flexibility in others - all around clunky. Pros Squarespace has really eye-catching template options that will make your website look great. When you are looking to choose where to start they offer an array of dummy sites to see how yours might compare in terms of offerings/functionality. I also like that you have several choices with regards to eCommerce and integrating your other social platforms (which admittedly, I have yet to fully explore) Cons As a designer, there are some limitations in layout and functionality, which can be frustrating. Sometimes I find it difficult to achieve exactly what I am wanting with the available tools/widgets assigned to my template. Reason for choosing Squarespace I liked the look of the Squarespace templates more than those offered by other programs and I liked the flexibility to expand what my website could do for me, should I want to. August 19, 2019 5.0 Students in my school were able to use this to create a website for a club that I am a faculty advisor for. They had a great time creating the website and I also enjoyed helping them create it as well. I think that this would be a great tool for anyone looking to create a website, as I think the finished product came out looking very professional and high quality! Pros Squarespace is such a powerful tool as it allows users to create clean and sleek websites with easy to navigate interfaces. I have used Squarespace with students as they created their own website for a club and have helped them with it, I can see how easy it is to create a website and launch it from scratch. It truly does not require much effort and of course, no coding skills are required at all. What I really liked the most about this software was how they allow for students and educators to receive a half-priced subscription their first year. I think that's amazing and a great incentive, especially for students! Cons What I liked the least about this software is at times it does feel a little limiting. There are times when you may want to place a banner or specific thing in a specific area but Squarespace wouldn't let you as it follows a block system. Pros Easily and quickly launch customizable website that had all of the capabilities I needed for simple landing page, as well as more sophisticated embedded tools. Cons Sometimes the squares can be difficult to move around and can change the entire look and layout of the landing page if accidentally moved in the wrong way.
