They want to advertise what they do, who they are, capabilities, and projects. For those kinds of sites, Squarespace is great. After building a website for the client, I can hand the site over to them and give them some basic training on updating website content and they're good to go. Pros What I like most about Squarespace is how easy it is for my clients to use after I hand off a website to them. For the most part, they can take care of content updates on their own. It also makes it easier for me (a web developer) to put together and launch a basic brochure website without much, if any, coding. Cons There are some types of functionality that cannot be built with Squarespace. Mostly things that would require a server-side coding language. However in their defense, Squarespace doesn't claim to be a platform for developing serious web applications. Pros The best part about squarespace is just how quickly it can get up and running. I've used Squarespace at multiple businesses and for personal projects, and it's so quick to build a site from scratch. I also love how professional and clean all the designs are; you have to work pretty hard to make it look bad. Cons The customization only goes so far- for example if you are trying to resize pages or do advanced editing, it can be a bit clunky. Most businesses will probably transition to something else like Wordpress as their needs grow, but Squarespace is a great way to jump in and get a functioning, nice-looking website set up quickly. Pros Easy to use - no HTML knowledge needed. I love being able to build a website without having to learn to code first. Cons Any self-made website is not going to be as polished as a professional-made website - there are certain limitations that Squarespace has, not least of which you are doing it on your own without a professional developer to call for help with! Cons It really clunks in.places. Compared to something like Wordpress, it's a slog to sometimes customise pages or sections in the way you want to. A little too fiddly for my liking. Pros You could set a stop watch for a race to check how fast it is to set-up. As someone with no experience in that field and being tasked by my manager to create a website I was daunted by the task. After some research I was lucky enough to stumble upon Squarespace. This program made me feel like I could start a business making websites for other people. The websites looked amazing and had every feature you would get from a programmer starting from scratch for a fraction of the cost. Would highly recommend. Cons It can be a little overwhelming with all the features and add-ons but in all honesty it's made as simple as possible and within a day of messing around on a mock website I was able to get the hang of it. It has evolved with the times, adding new functionality as the industry changes. It's been a solid, easy option for me. Pros I love how easy it is to use. I am able to make edits to the look and feel and content of the site without challenge. I also like being able to preview template changes and make modifications to content and design without affecting my live site. Cons The only thing that would make Squarespace better for me would be if it were more affordable. It isn't unreasonable, but it isn't cheap either. Review Source Sarah O. Pros I used a template out of the box, made a few tweaks, and gets tons of compliments about how nice my site looks. It's simple, clean, and to the point. Navigating the platform felt awkward to me at first, but I figured it out fairly quickly and was immensely pleased with the result. So much so that when I launched my business, we used Squarespace to create our initial website. They offer great templates and took a lot of the heavy lifting out of creating a site so I could focus on the content. Pros Squarespace makes it relatively easy to create a sleek and modern website in a fairly short amount of time, all things considered. The site is responsive and loads quickly. Cons Editing the site took a bit of learning, as did navigating the blog. It wasn't exactly intuitive at first. That said, once I did it a few times I got the hang of it and it doesn't bother me anymore. I'm not thrilled with the recent price increase, but it's still less expensive than hiring a team to build and house something ourselves. Limited features and user customization. Updating pages with their drag and drop is a pain, blocks have to be added in a certain order or the whole page's formatting gets messed up, no way to adjust blocks to all to be uniform size. Pros Organization of sites, ability to make password protected drafts. Cons Hate hate hate the way websites are designed with its user interface. Not very customizable and using the blocks can be a headache. Limited features. Not much SEO guidance. I went from novice to feeling like a professional when I completed my first web page with Squarespace. The variety of templates, pages, easy drag-and-drop interface made it a breeze. I was surprised that it was easier than I thought. I love the ability to add an online store and customer service has been fast and friendly. Depending on what my clients are capable of I can refer certain website builders, and this is what I usually refer when they are new to website building but also want control of their own website. Pros I like that they offer a free trial for people to use. I also like how easy it is to set up a website, especially if you aren't super technology savvy. You can set up a clean and beautiful website and everything up and running within hours or days. Cons If you are familiar with website and hosting the pricing structure is a little bit on the higher side. So if you are more advanced in website building then this definitely isn't for you. Cons As "great" as Squarespace seems on the outside, the quality just isn't reliable in my opinion. When I find Squarespace websites, I know immediately because of the lack of detail, broken elements and what looks like a rush job. The performance can't compete with a professionally built website using WordPress or custom development code. So if you're a super small business just getting started and want to use Wix as a six month to 1-year goal because of low revenue, it works; but any longer, you would be doing yourself an injustice.
