April 20, 2019 4.0 In the end I found that other web design platforms were easier to use for me and allowed me to create a professional site with much less effort than my experience with Squarespace. I do know others whom feel differently, but I was not willing to invest extra time and effort into learning Squarespace when other options I was trying at the same time came easy to me and produced comparable results. Pros I decided to sign up for a free Squarespace site because I really liked the look and movement of the templates and sample site. Each one was professional and represented the type of site I wanted to create. I also had a friend who was using the platform and spoke highly of it compared to other options. Cons Once I was in the editing phase, usability was not intuitive. Making what I expected to be simple changes to layout and navigation never seemed to work as I wanted. I had trouble with background images and text placement and just could not get a template to have the finished look of the sample sites I like so much. Review Source Veronica D. There are a wide variety of templates available making it easy to start a basic website. Pros Squarespace is very easy to use especially when building a simple website for personal use. The drag and drop features make it easy to design and layout your website. Cons If you want to customize past what Squarespace offers within their templates you will need to know a little code. Pros The templates Squarespace provides are easy to use, but they are also very contemporary with much of the functionality of a custom site. Even though one is restricted to the template, there is still a lot flexibility to customize the site. Cons Sometimes it doesn't play well with other plug-ins. Some of the features are difficult to fine tune at first, but with patience everything works out well in the end. Squarespace truly takes care of their customers and makes it more than easy to create a beautiful website that takes a short period of time to use. Pros I love how easy it was to build a website with Squarespace. Everyone always hails how simple Squarespace is to the point where it seems like a ruse, but it truly is! I know NOTHING about website construction, and even I was able to put something together that looks clean and professional. I have total control over font choice, colors, etc.-- and it all looks good on any platform (mobile, laptop, tablet, etc.)! Cons The ease of construction and complete control of aesthetic comes, unfortunately, at a price. It is one of the more pricey web builders out there; however, it can be justified by how much of the work it does for you when building your site. There's no free trial or test module that can be used to determine whether or not Squarespace is for you as well. Designs are pre-built and all the important things like payment and shipping is handled with ease. Cons It would be nice to have the design editing be made a bit more intuitive and clear. And their blog posts that offer help are honestly rarely of much help to the questions I've had. I have often seen user questions posed in their help section with similar questions to ones I have. However, they don't seem to cover those same things in their blogs. The most expensive tier of service is honestly affordable to pretty much anyone. Their star feature is the library of templates. There's something for just about anything you can think of. This is especially useful for new users or those who want to get a great site using templates built on tired and true data. Cons Kind of a pro and con - the pricing is not immediately apparent. It took a moment to find; it's all the way at the bottom on the left of their homepage. I assumed this meant the pricing was laughable and needed hiding but it was far better than I anticipated. This however may be a turn-off to someone not interested in looking around that much. They may think it's expensive and go to the next option. These prices actually should be a selling point. If you're a newbie or if you just want to create a neat looking presence for your organization without too much work, you'll love Squarespace. Also, using Squarespace for the first time, I faced some problems when trying to move the content to another domain: their support helped me out in no time. Pros Well first, the fact that Keanu Reeves advertises this makes me like it. Secondly, Squarespace is literally the easiest tool for building websites and landing pages I could think of: if you measure the effort against the quality of the results, you'll be amazed. Cons The ease of use, however, comes with certain restrictions to what is actually possible. Yes, Squarespace offers neat transitions and effects: there's plenty of themes to choose from and customize, but if you compare it to actual CMSs that can do the same without requiring you to have a design-degree or spectacular coding-skills, it kind of loses its charm. Squarespace is super flexible like that! Pros I do not have a clue where to start when building a functional website yet this program made it a breeze! I could make it as simple or as detailed as I wanted. There were even videos for those that learn best visually rather than an instruction manual. Cons I couldn't figure out how to not edit the website "live". I was always nervous as I was editing that someone was going to login and see my ugly work in process.
