ManageEngine ADManager Plus

## What is ManageEngine ADManager Plus?

ADManager Plus helps secure identities and access in cloud and hybrid environments by unifying administration for Active Directory, Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, and Google Workspace. Admins can automate user provisioning and deprovisioning across on-prem and cloud apps, standardize access rights with templates, and revoke licenses and group memberships when users leave. Detailed reports on accounts, groups, and mailboxes highlight risky configurations such as inactive users with active licenses or excessive permissions. By closing identity gaps and streamlining cloud access changes, ADManager Plus strengthens overall cloud security posture.

Overall experience with ADManager has been positive, with only a few slight hiccups, such as accidentally bulk resetting account passwords.

Pros

I like the ease of being able to bulk modify and create entities in AD using ADManager Plus, along with the automation that it can do.

Cons

Something I don't like about ADManager is that it doesn't seem as adaptive, such as if you create a large amount of custom reports, they can overflow from the container and it can then be hard to select the report you want. Along with that, there is no way to bulk share custom reports, so you have to go to each report and share it individually.

Pros

ManageEngine ADManager Plus has streamlined our Active Directory operations with its intuitive interface, robust automation, and customizable reports. Routine tasks like onboarding, password resets, and account cleanups now run effortlessly, saving time and reducing errors. Support is excellent, and updates consistently add real value. A must-have for efficient, secure AD management.

Cons

None! We have been able to do everything required by auditing and best practice standards. What we cant do in here, we do with powershell.

Overall, I would say that my experience was positive. It has significantly reduced my average time of day-to-day AD administrative activities such as provisioning, password resets, group management, or any other bulk changes. Some of these procedures that previously required multiple steps now can be done in one flow. Additionally, I find it helpful that I can access all relevant information in the form of reports instead of having to check every specific AD object. It was totally worth the while to get familiar with this software, which now serves me well in terms of having an efficient platform to organize and store user data.

Pros

I liked most is that it simplifies day-to-day management of Active Directory users. You can create users, update their information, change passwords, manage groups, and perform other routine operations from one place, not various consoles. Performing the same actions in bulk is also possible. It reduces the number of repetitive tasks in AD management, and predefined reports and automation scenarios help to achieve it. Everything is easy and intuitive once you get to know the interface.

Cons

The initial learning curve is a bit of a challenge because there are a lot of settings and options to get used to. Some of the automation and reporting tools require some trial and error to become familiar with. The interface can also be a bit overwhelming at first.

We are very pleased. We bought if for a very specific use case - to clean up our AD after years of neglect, and to help with the conversion from Windows 10 to Windows 11 machines. It has been very helpful

Pros

We use it to identify machines that need to be cleaned out of AD and to monitor user changes in AD. We have automated reports for both and that is the best feature!

Cons

The update process is very manual. I'd like to see an improved and automated update process. That is my only "complaint"

ADManager Plus is chockful of tools that you'd think Microsoft would include out of the box, but after 25+ years of Active Directory, it's clear they have no interest in doing so. ADManager Plus fills all the gaps that Microsoft left. Simple mass imports with automatic OU assignments, mass changes to existing accounts, etc. Some of this can be done through PowerShell, sure, but this makes it easy.

Pros

The interface has really improved and modernized over the year. It integrates perfectly with Active Directory and can do just about anything you can imagine. It's speedy, too—large tasks don't take long at all. I've used this product for many, many years (over a decade) and have rarely needed support, but on the rare occasion I have reached out for assistance, they've been helpful. The price is fantastic for what you get. It can seem like a one-trick pony at first, but the more you use it the more you realize what else you can do with it.

Cons

I honestly can't think of anything I dislike about the product. The interface could perhaps use a gentle refresh, but overall it's just rock solid.

ADManager Plus is suited perfectly for use any time one needs to go into Active Directory on-premises. It is well suited for on-boarding teams and intial-tier support teams that will help support users.

Pros

We use ManageEngine ADManager Plus to automate all operations that involve Active Directory within our environment. We use it from the very beginning in our onboarding process. It is simple to set up different types of profiles for different types of employees. ADManager Plus automatically configures everything from their display name, email configuration, group lists, and licensing. After setup, ADManager Plus allows my team to manage users in any way we wish, making account changes a thing of simplicity.

Cons

The program itself is somewhat clunky. It doesn't have as modern a feel as some other programs. This doesn't detract from the usage of the program, which is still very effective. However, when things are a bit more modern it makes it a joy to use.

Reasons for choosing ManageEngine ADManager Plus

We decided to use ManageEngine ADManager Plus due to the compatibility it had with our systems. We run a hybrid environment and ManageEngine ADManager Plus was the system that fit into our infrastructure the best. It also provides the most opportunity for growth in the way we want and does not require us to build on systems we are not yet ready to implement.

ManageEngine ADManager Plus is great at helping technicians manage Active Directory, I especially like all the bulk management abilities as well as generating defined reports on our environment

Cons

Sometimes, performance on the server can be somewhat slow. It is also not cheap even though I believe it has a lot of value. It would be great if there were even more integrations with other third party IT tools.
