I recommend Castor EDC to colleagues any time I can! Pros Being a small non-profit organization stretched for time and resources, finding a secure platform which took into account our small under-resourced status in cost and was easy for me to build and customize was invaluable. Add to that the amazing customer service and I was even happier. Cons There are 3 things that could be improved: 1. Allowing for more than one dependency on a question. 2. Make automations easier to set up with clearer terminology and instructions. 3. CRF forms can be replicated from one study to another in very easy way and faster. Cons The data export functionality should be improved. November 13, 2019 4.0 The system is finally a great system that I use for: - non commercial studies - small projects (research, academic or phase I) Pros It is easy to deploy, a quite friendly user system, allows quick study setup and is not expensive at all. Cons The audit trail difficult to extract and get. I had some issues when designing a page with a big table: performance issues led to problems when recording data. Keep in mind to design pages without hundreds of fields. Reason for choosing Castor EDC I chose Castor because it is more user-friendly than other systems like Open Clinica. Loved this edc system. Pros The system is extremely user friendly. The startup time was quick when entering the webpage. Cons Margins cut off subject numbers, so they weren’t displayed properly. The ease of use of the reports depends mostly on how the database is built - using many report buttons is not always convenient. For repeated measures, it is more appropriate to use the dedicated repeated measure field instead - this makes data entry for such measurements much easier! Customer support is always available to help with queries, if there are any. I honestly did not have any trouble at all running my study on Castor. I had virtually no previous experience designing and maintaining clinical data systems, but Castor made the whole process a piece of cake! Any questions I had along the way were addressed in their helpful videos. The research coordinators we work with have also mentioned how impressed they are with Castor and were able to start using it with only minimal instruction. Cons There is sometimes a lot of clicking required to add new form fields and navigating through reports can sometimes be tricky. Pros The software is easy to use when you follow the tutorials and I appreciate the flexibility of the software allowing users to add continuous and variable data. Having others fill out CRFs or questionnaires is failure proof, as you are able to set limitations on the data that is being entered. Cons When sending out questionnaires to others in situations were the need to be persuaded to fill out the questionnaires, the lay-out can be quite strict and usefull, however its not very appealing.
