It offers a wide variety of tools to validate data entry. It's cost-effective and the fact that one can practice and customize and test before the "go live" is a great advantage. Great web tutorials. Cons More complex study data structures require Java programming knowledge. Some of the widgets are not flexible enough, especially the table structure. The mobile support is not there yet. Hardly any bugs noted, but if there, they will be fixed within a few hours. Ability to make accounts for different users with different restrictions (fantastic!). Recommendations: - Options to build eCRFS could be extended somewhat, e.g. medication module - Other randomisation algorithms - Option to adjust the planned dates for surveys (future survey invites) that have already been saved. Regarding your points: - Currently we recommend using the new "Repeated measures" feature to create your own medication module. We will try to include medication lists in Castor but that is difficult due to international differences - We have built our Biased Coin Minimization (BCM) algorithm and are currently validating it, we will update you when it is released! - This is a very valid point and was developed in the current 'sprint', it will be released in in version 4.7. Their technical support library and staff also make it very easy to learn how the system works. Cons Being simpler software means that Castor doesn't have all the bells and whistles that might be available in far more expensive software packages but this is more than made up for by its cost effectiveness and the ability for users to run their own databases. You can develop a complete study very easily without any complex programming. Pros \- CRFs are easily built. - Customers support responds quickly and is very helpful. - you don't need specific training to use Castor EDC for building CRFs. Cons \- The layout and looks change very often, which are not always a improvement. - Restrictions of the layouting the CRFs. - no test- and acceptance environment. I understand that layout changes aren't always welcome but as we are redesigning and our entire user interface to become the most mobile and user friendly EDC platform, we will need to gradually deploy these changes on our platform. I promise we will try to make the steps as small as possible! With regards to the lack of test and production environments, we currently have a couple of ways to deal with that, our support desk can tell you more about that. But rest assured, we are well aware of this limitation and it's high on our list of features to implement! Pros As a user it is really user friendly, basically no training is needed to understand how it works Cons The exports might be a bit better defined. It works much fast than most databases and adding comments is really easy. Pros It is fast and the lay-out and structure of the site works well. It is also easy to add notes and commentary if necessary Cons It isn't super intuitive. I made a few mistakes the first time I used it. I like that it shows a percentage of how much data has been entered. The green, yellow and red system for queries is great too! Cons I have only used this system for 2 studies at my site. Pros customer service, the user end, easy exporting options Cons building the CRF, copying steps takes long and isn't intuitive. you can't drug / duplicate as easily as other softwares. repeated measures are uncomfortable to access in the record and unless i export it , i can't easily see all the measures with visit numbers and dates. in general i think CRF building is a bit to technical and maybe made more for a computer guy than a CRO company. I’ve seen a lot of software for study management however Castor EDC is the easiest in use. Pros The software works simple and intuitive and has a nice interface. Would be desirable for us to implement it in laboratory experimental studies. Pros I needed Castor for analysis of only small populations. However, my colleague used Castor extensively. What was the major pro is that it is easy to use. And self-guided. It was easy to set up forms. Cons I mainly worked in experimental medicine in the labarotory. There was no integration with our results from experimental studies. Like cell culture data, mRNA analysis, R2 micro array analysis. I think it is possible to use castor to integrate this features, but we just did not implement it. Review Source DW Dian W.
