### "A Reliable Hiring Tool with Room to Grow Beyond Coding"

July 14, 2026

4.0

HackerRank is a solid platform for conducting technical assessments, particularly for programming and coding-focused evaluations. The built-in question library, candidate monitoring features, and ease of standardizing assessments make it a reliable choice for most engineering hiring workflows. That said, the platform has room to grow in certain areas: Architectural & system design questions – HackerRank is not yet optimized for architecture-style assessments. The tooling for whiteboarding, diagramming, and evaluating system design thinking feels underdeveloped compared to its strong coding evaluation capabilities.

Pros

Key highlights include: Candidate activity monitoring – The platform tracks time-on-screen and captures screen size metadata, which helps reviewers assess candidate behavior and flag potential anomalies during assessments. Question library & defaults – Adding default/pre-built questions is straightforward, making it easy to standardize assessments across roles without starting from scratch each time. Ease of setup – The overall configuration experience is intuitive, reducing the administrative overhead for hiring teams. These features collectively make HackerRank a strong choice for teams looking to run structured, auditable technical interviews at scale.

Cons

While HackerRank excels in many areas, there are a few friction points worth noting: Custom question creation is cumbersome – Adding custom questions is not straightforward and can be time-consuming, especially for teams that need to tailor assessments beyond the default library. The process lacks the simplicity you'd expect given how polished the rest of the platform is. Diagram-based questions are challenging for candidates – When assessments include custom diagrams or drawing-type questions, candidates often struggle with the interface. The drawing tools are not intuitive, which can introduce unnecessary friction during the test and may affect performance for reasons unrelated to the candidate's actual skill. These limitations are worth considering if your hiring process relies heavily on custom or visual problem formats — in such cases, supplementing HackerRank with a dedicated diagramming or whiteboarding tool may be necessary.

### "Outstanding Partnership and Value"

February 27, 2026

5.0

Hugely positive. The team are great and very responsive, they are as invested as we are to innovate and overcome challenges and this makes for a fantastic partnership. Working with them has allowed us to run new processes, have reliable data to back up changes and trust in what we are trying to build - together. Excellent value for money, helping us to save vast amounts whilst not faltering on quality.

Pros

How it enabled us to scale and to improve our processes. The platform is incredibly easy to navigate and use. It gives us a great window into how someone will perform in their interviews and shifting to live coding interviews has been game changing.

Cons

In the interviews the video aspect isn't great and could potentially be smoother if it ran through Google Meet instead.

Overall, our experience with HackerRank has been positive. The platform has enabled us to efficiently assess technical talent at scale through standardized and objective evaluations. Its extensive question library, assessment customization options, and integrity features have helped improve the quality of candidate screening while reducing manual effort

Cons

Extremely hard DSA \* Competitive programming questions \* Questions that feel unrelated to the actual role

### "Very Satisfied with our Partnership with HackerRank!"

March 19, 2026

5.0

Overall, our experience with HackerRank has been exceptionally positive. We feel very confident in the product, and the HackerRank team enables us to get the best use out of the partnership.

Pros

We absolutely love the support we get when working with the HackerRank team. We've been working with \[sensitive content hidden\] for years now, and we are not shy about telling her that she is one of our favorite vendors to work with. \[sensitive content hidden\] goes out of her way to ensure we are fully informed on new offerings and opportunities to take advantage of. The HackerRank team is dedicated to making sure we are satisfied with their product. We had a few questions about a new offering recently, and their team offered to hold a session to walk our team through a demo and hold a Q&A to ensure we felt enabled and empowered!

Cons

There's nothing that we would categorize as "disliking" about HackerRank. We have thoroughly enjoyed our partnership so far.

### "Great for live technical interviews — just needs better mobile UX"

July 15, 2026

5.0

Been using it regularly for candidate interviews and it does the job well. The tooling around proctoring, playback, and collaboration makes the whole hiring loop smoother. A few UX improvements on mobile and question history would make it near perfect.

Pros

Wide language support makes it easy to interview candidates in their preferred stack. I love that I can save questions to my own library and reuse them across interviews — also having access to the firm's shared library is a huge time saver. The private notes feature is great without the candidate seeing it. Recording interviews and being able to reopen them later to re-run test cases against a candidate's solution is incredibly useful when you need to revisit a decision. The observation mode help me silently watch the interview. The away-from-screen and tab-switch notifications give good visibility into candidate behaviour during the test.

Cons

Conducting interviews from a mobile screen is painful — the UI doesn't adapt well and navigating code, notes, and controls on a small display is a hassle. Also, there's no easy way to see my history of past questions asked. If I forget to save a question to my library, it's gone — would be nice to have a "recently used" or question history tied to my user profile without needing to explicitly save every time.

### "New age of recruitement with Hackerrank"

June 29, 2026

4.0

Overall great. Love the platform, especially if you are the question creator/reviewer. The engagement with the sale team overall good. They are being helpful as they can and answer questions relatively quickly.

Pros

Dedicated IDE like Visual Code + MySQL support so we can design a thorough test with unit test running. Protoc features for ensuring fairness of the test even though candidates do test at home. Recently AI feature allows us to expand the test and adjust the process/technical requirements needed for the new age

Cons

Candidates still report occasional instability: test running too long, VSCode crashes though it is getting better AI efficiency marking is inconsistent and unreliable at the moment. AI responses can also be inconsistent for the exact same prompt making a few candidates can have a better head start or worst start by random.

### "Hackerank Review"

July 1, 2026

4.0

Really positive, the platform is super easy to use. I have gathered feedback from across the business which is also very positive.

Pros

Ease of use - so easy to setup a new test, even without development expertise. The ATS integration is also very handy. The Interview or pair programming tests offer a great insight into a candidates technical ability and also how they take onboard technical direction. The customer service is also good - always happy to help and talk through any issues/blockers.

Cons

Whilst the ATS integration is good it would be better if it include the setup of Interviews rather than just take home tests.

### "Great experience"

October 8, 2025

5.0

Pros

What I liked most about HackerRank is its hands-on approach to learning and assessment. The platform offers a wide range of real-world coding challenges that help me improve problem-solving skills, practice different programming concepts, and benchmark my abilities against a global community of developers.

Cons

What I liked least about HackerRank is that some challenges can feel overly rigid, with strict input/output formats and constraints that may not fully reflect real-world coding scenarios. While this structure is useful for standardized assessment, it can sometimes limit creative problem-solving.

I really enjoy HackerRank. I like how it's a go at your own pace learning tool with down negative side effects to use. I suggest you use it if you are looking to learn, get new ideas, or just keep up skills in languages you don't often use.

Pros

I like that it is free of course, but also that you are able to keep your skills up on languages you do not use regularly, or give yourself new challenges and ideas. Also, in terms of ease of use, the site works great. It's easy to use, and easy to learn how to program in. Sometimes they'll even email you a challenge. Such a great site!
