Pros: We developed a website using the Drupal CMS when we needed to add eCommerce capabilities. Instead of developing a new part of the site using dedicated tools such as Magento or Prestashop, we decided to go for Drupal Commerce, a specific module to fit that need. And we were not disappointed as, with several other contributed modules, we were able to implement the whole store and purchasing features. It's really powerful to be able to develop a regular website along an eCommerce one for SEO purposes for example. Generally, other tools such as Magento are not really good for dealing with CMS features.

Cons: It can be hard to tweak the Drupal commerce workflow to the website needs if it's a complex one. For example, it's not easy to implement some discount rules if their are complex, but it can be done by a Drupal expert. So be aware that you'll need one or more Drupal expert profiles if you plan to develop and maintain a big eCommerce site using this tool.

Overall: The ability to implement a store inside a Drupal website, using this powerfull CMS features along the eCommerce one given by Drupal Commerce.
