Pros This platform is the best for the organization as well as for the parents. The best perks of the Brightwheel is that is in real-time for everything. Did you have a child that is getting sick you can update the profile and the parent gets an alert. Another perk is when you have extended family picking up the customized pin numbers come in handy. The security is top-notch for staff and administration. Also, there are reports on the backend that also works fantastic for analytics. Fantastic platform! Cons Searching for a student can get a little clunky. Definitely a win for parent communication and tracking Pros I used this software for a couple years with a day care my last company ran. I simply loved it. It was so easy to track when the child entered and left the facility, what they ate, naps, photos, events, etc. It was a secure place to email and communicate with parents as well. Our parents truly loved this app as well. Cons I cannot think of any cons except getting to know the program can take a bit of time. Other than that it is great. Pros Nothing. I am opposed to this type of app because it is counterproductive. It does not surprise me that this app was developed by a parent, not a teacher. Cons I work for a company that uses Brightwheel and I firmly believe that this app and others like it are awful. They enable helicopter parenting, distract teachers, and set a bad example for children. Kids watch their teachers pick up a phone or tablet constantly to enter Brightwheel information, but to them it’s no different than if their teacher were texting a friend; their eyes are not on the kids. Teachers should be engaged and present, not worrying about parents getting updates. Most users engage mostly in passively viewing photo updates, but the capability goes far beyond. The user can also send messages and track student attendance absences, and critical messages can be sent quickly to a specific small group out of a larger group. Cons It is easy for the user to ignore the bigger features, such as attendance tracking if the organization doesn’t enforce it. Most of the users only see photos, but don’t use it for anything else. I would not purchase if you’re looking for a more all-encompassing app, but don’t want to keep strict rules. My only issue was not being able to find a phone number to call Customer Service at first. Then I gave up and sent a message requesting help and it took over an hour to get a reply. I would like Customer Service to be more available. Pros It is by far the easiest way for myself (center director) and my teachers to communicate with parents. I don't have to call parents for every little question throughout the day and our phone isn't ringing off the hook with parents calling about everything. Cons Sometimes, after it goes "off line" and has system updates, it doesn't work correctly for us for the next few days. I guess this should be expected with technology but it makes our life a little more complicated because the parents are expecting it to work perfectly all the time. Review Source Kenneth O. Throughout the day, makes it easier to have everything right there and not have to do it all on paper records. Pros I like how use friendly the app is, with all the features and how quick and easy it is to enter information and access when need through out the day. Cons I would like the app to add/ improve some features. Such as have an edit all feature and be able to do multiple edits at the same time. Instead of having to do it one by one. Also, the app can stop working random times through out the day and takes longer to reload/ refresh. Would be nice to have a safe feature that saves any information, pictures or videos in case the app crashes or stops working. It would be nice if you could take longer videos. Be able to upload documents without having to take a picture of it before posting. I especially love being able to pay the tuition right through the app. Pros As a parent I enjoy the ease and convenience of using Brightwheel. I have the app on my phone where I can keep up with my child's daily activities, message his teacher and also pay tuition. It also allows the teacher to post pictures and send them to me while I am at work. Cons I think for alerts and updates it is not necessary for Brightwheel to send them to every contact on a child's file. Just the primary would be fine. Review Source VL Victoria L. My staff can easily talk to parents through the messaging feature, we use it for our staff time cards as well as keeping track of student attendance, and parents are able to easily see pictures or updates about their child throughout the day. I pay based on the number of kids I have and they are generous with waiting to increase the price. Customer service is wonderful! They quickly respond to any issues I have and take suggestions to improve their software. Cons My biggest frustrations come from the staff side of the software. Staff can clock each other in and out so if you have untrustworthy staff then they can really mess up some time cards. Also the administrator cannot create a time card so it takes some extra steps in order to create a time card if someone forgot to clock in or out. The staff cannot see their hours within their own accounts and have no way of tracking if they accidentally forgot a clock in or out. The administrator spends a fair amount of time making time corrections as a result. Also it would be nice to be able to export all of the time cards at once, instead of doing each teacher one at a time. Luckily we don't have a large staff but it is still a time consuming endeavor. Brightwheel doesn't track overtime hours so I have to manually add up any hours over 40 to make sure I'm not underpaying the staff. April 18, 2022 5.0 Pros I recently got introduced to this app through my daughter's daycare and I am in love. I love that I am notified when my husband gets her dropped off, when there is any communication from her school, and updates about her day. This is much more efficient than receiving emails that often get lost in spam boxes. I always get a prompt response through this app. It allows me to be as hands on as needed throughout the day! There are many functions to where you can update profile information, do daily check in and check out, see the calendar, access lesson plans, and see any other documents. This app takes the hassle out of having to call the office and be placed on hold. I highly recommend this app! Cons I do not have cons about the app. At first I did not like that I had to wait for an invite by my daughter's school. I thought it would have been easier if I could have just signed up myself until I realized that this was for safety. If anyone could just access the app an put in your child's info that could be dangerous. So, basically what I initially thought was a con, is actually another pro of using the app. My child's safety is ensured! I believe Brightwheel is working on this but it is not there yet. The app is fantastically easy to operate and contains as many or more features found in other software. Suggestions are taken by the Brightwheel team, which is a huge plus. Concerns are more with cost/value as I still have to buy separate assessment/teaching system. Pros The fact that it brings most used features into one easy to use package. Updates are frequent and mostly useful, increasing the functionality of the app (also listed as a con below). I can also trust that parents can figure out the app fairly easily without having to teach each family how to use it. Cons Cost - while not a lot on a per child basis, it does add up. Especially given the fact that the documentation part of the software is messy and not as user friendly, which makes it unusable at this point. There is also a greater up-front cost with iPads/Tablets. App updates - updates are good, but features are updated without notice. This leaves the user/teacher scrambling to figure out the new features and changes before children get in. Also we are able to have secure check in/out for authorized people via the personalized code for each parent/designee. Finally, being able to showcase student's work and connect teachers to parents with a push of a button. Pros It is very easy to check students in/out. Each parent has their own code. The program keeps track of the attendance for students and staff. The most wonderful feature is taking pictures and sending it to the parents directly from the app. Truly amazing idea that is well put together.
