September 12, 2025 5.0 Blackboard helps me organize my classes in a Week by Week format, while also keeping within the structure of other classes at the same school. This allows easy navigation of the Blackboard page, saving students time and frustration. Pros It allows me to organize my course in a way that students can easily navigate through it. The page layout and design are much like competing products, so it is familiar to new users. It is easy to setup, as well. Cons Sometimes it has quirks, especially with the gradebook. It is also constantly changing, but that's also a pro at times. Adjunct Faculty Education Management Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Simple LMS that does the basic well" November 20, 2025 2.0 Overall, from a user and blackboard made it easy to find documents. However, from the back end as an instructor trying to create whole courses, it became difficult to put any sort of custom design into the pages or templates. It did very well for assignment management too . Pros What I liked most about blackboard was that it has a clean interface and holding an E dialog between groups of people was very easy to do. Also, it was easy to upload files and share the links or links to files and overall, it was just a platform that allowed you to put items there for your users. From the user end it was very easy to understand and navigate blackboard and how to get to the materials I needed from my instructor. Cons What I like least about Blackboard was the lack of capability for page and template design. You had to stick to how blackboard set up the pages and customization was just not there. Additionally according to my higher management, the cost of blackboard was slightly higher than other LMS options so upper management decided to switch out blackboard to another LMS. It is a powerful LMS for designing learning tools. Pros I found Blackboard a very robust Learning Management System. It has strong features, including grading learners' assignments, communication, the management of assignments, and providing activity feedback. It supports accessibility for all users on different types of devices and browsers. Cons The Blackboard interface can be intimidating for new users. Many of our users indicated that it is difficult to navigate it. I watched a number of their training videos. They were professionally done and the app appears fairly easy to use. Many/most of the vides were narrated by people whose first language was obviously English and easy to understand. However, some of the videos were narrated by individuals with heavy foreign accents. English was obviously not their first language. So unfortunately, I had difficulty understanding these individuals; and this adversely affected my ability to learn how to use this product. The prime objective of any instructional videos should be to convey information clearly and concisely; it should not entail political correctness or a diversity agenda especially when it comes to running a business. What's in the best interest of the customer should be any company's focus. Remember what happened to Bud Light? Pros The app appears to be easy to use. The training videos were well done (but with some exceptions noted below) Cons Some training videos were difficult to understand due to the narrators having heavy accents. " September 19, 2025 3.0 I've used it both as a student and an instructor. Blackboard has a rich history of being one of the first online course management systems. My understanding is that they have evolved into another company (Anthology). So this is really about Blackboard the software product. Pros Blackboard was an early innovator of online teaching and learning. The colleges I attended and worked for embraced the concept of offering course content online. When I was in college I was on a team of ed tech support center workers who was influential in which system to officially adopt for offering online courses. Blackboard was one and WebCT (which Blackboard later aquired). Our college adopted WebCT, but Arizona State University where I earned by BS in Computer Science and M.Ed in Ed Tech was and is a Blackboard Learn campus so I have considerable experience in both environments from many perspectives. Cons The company was very monopolistic and sued just about every competing Learning Management System (LMS) vendor for creating online learning environments as they seemed to think that they invented teaching and learning online. This tends to be an issue for many users. It can be used across synchronous, asychronous and hybrid course offerings. It is a bit limited in its customizability features, but overall it is a solid course management system. Pros Blackboard is fairly easy to use and is easy to onboard with. It is familar to most students and professors. Cons Some of my least favorite features included the limits on customizability of the course features (such as colors) and the clunky UI. Review Source MB Michael B. It stores work securely and lets the user add grades to the gradebook when work sometimes finds it way through outside email systems. Blackboard also has tutorial videos for dealing with new issues. Pros I must admit wrestling with Blackboard in 2015 when first encountered, but I've learned it to be reliable and fairly simple to use. Everything about it makes sense and navigation is easy. The system does the math for accurate grade recording and stores information for as long as needed in order to verify work submitted and grades recorded. Cons My least favorite thing was being thrust into Blackboard initially after using only Moodle. Our school offered some group training and I took advantage of several help sessions, too. The systems are different, but I believe Blackboard to be superior in every way. It is also easy to use which makes it more used to for teachers and students for one go. Pros Puedes fácilmente actualizar la información que necesitas para llevar a cabo tu formación, tomando distintas asignatura correctamente estructuradas y divididas en una interfaz bastante intuitiva y fácil de usar. La forma de entrega de actividades de hace de forma muy cómoda y bien implementada. Cons Algunas funcionalidades del producto se encuentran ligeramente "ocultas" o no suficientemente a la vista, por lo que no se les saca el partido que podría llegarse a sacar, como podría ser el sistema de mensajería o anuncios generales al curso. Some other professors at my university liked to rely on BB Learn for everything, including video-conference and online exams. Being as feature rich as it is, BB Learn has the problem that the user interface might be very challenging for some people. I guess you either really like it or really don't, so when it doesn't click you can get frustrated by a lot of things. Still, for the people loving it, they will make the most out of it. One of the best tools out there. Easy to recommend for general purposes. Pros I like that if you're a power user and your students get into it, this is probably the only eLearning tool you will ever need. It has everything from homework assignments to actual video-conference; besides of the usual tools like forums and work groups. The online exams are very useful, specially if you don't want to manually grade tons and tons of tests. Cons I don't like the user interface. Most of the tools are one more click away than I think they should. Very useful things like the exams are really powerful, but creating them is so awkward that sometimes you prefer to just handle a document. Student Mechanical or Industrial Engineering Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Fine product, needs updating" March 30, 2022 3.0 Blackboard Learn helps students stay organized during the semester or course they are taking by having all the documents, videos, etc. that the teacher would like to share with them all in one place. But, Blackboard Learn is becoming very outdated and could use some serious UI updates, especially when compared to Canvas. Pros It's nice to have all the assignments, documents, and grades in one place. This helps to avoid professors handing out tons of papers or sending emails all the time. The mobile app sends push notifications about grades or upcoming assignment deadlines which is nice. Cons I have noticed some glitches using Blackboard (didn't get notifications, etc). The UI on the computer is outdated and counterintuitive in some ways for both students and instructors. The online service is completely different from the app version which can also be a problem. The communication and course management are just spot on. I feel this software has a great potential and amazing capabilities and it is definitely my favorite e-learning platform. I could easily recommend it to any higher education student/teacher. Pros What I like the most about Blackboard Learn is the amazing and complete features it offers to its users. I use this software for higher education (as a student) and it is very complete and reliable. I can track all my courses, appointments, works, grades, files and many more in the same place, which is perfect for me. I also like the fact I can communicate with my teachers within this platform and the possibility to activate the email notifications for every course is a great add-up for this software. Cons What I like the least about this software is the User Interface (UI), as I consider the navigability could be better and the features could yet be more accessible and easier to use. Other than that, I don't have any other "complaints" about Blackboard Learn. I may mention that in the beginning of the pandemic, with the introduction of online classes, this software was a life-saver and my institution needed to contact the support team, who was very responsive and agile to solve all the issues at that time. February 18, 2023 4.0 Utilice Blackboard learn para la realizacion de cursos online de formacion con nuestros alumnos, desde el minuto cero nos parecio un sofwtare muy intuitivo y facil de usar.A los estudiantes les ha encantado la funcionalidad de trabajos grupales, asi como la interaccion directa con otros estudiantes. Recomiendo Blackboard learn al cien por cien, aunque es un poco costoso, merece la pena adquirila. Pros Muy facil de utilizar y muy intuitiva. Lo que mas me ha gustado es que los alumnos una vez realizada la tarea obtienen el resultado de forma automatica. Su biblioteca de contenido es muy amplia, nos permite subir toda clase de documentos, hasta contenido multimedia, por lo cual eso a los alumnos les parece muy atractivo para que lo estudien de mejor forma. Cons Hay herramientas de caracteristicas similiares y son gratuitas, con lo cual puede resultar un poco costoso.Tambien hemos echado en falta mas opciones de personalizacion. Algunos clientes han reportado problemas al acceder desde telefono movil. Review Source aG anitha G. postdoc Higher Education Used the software for: 2+ years ### "blackboard Learn for undergraduate classes" April 12, 2021 5.0 I used blackboard as a graduate student and I have been using it now as an instructor for my larger chemistry classes with 200 to 250 students, and it is really very helpful, makes my classes run smoothly. Pros it is easy to post all assignments, class materials, notes and grades using blackboard. Especially for larger classes I don't have to print the paper copy, posting the class material on blackboard will help students to print and refer to the material easily. Gradebook is one of the best features of blackboard, I have quizzes almost everyday for my students, posting these quizzes grades were very straightforward using blackboard. I have also used blackboard for online quizzes and exams, and for lab exams. Cons Blackboard gets slower when many people are using at the same time and some times it becomes unavailable due to maintenance(but we do get notice prior to it). other than that I had no issue with it.
