It was intuitive to follow the flow a path to find content needed at a given time. There was no confusion to find lecture notes, grades, or messages from an administrator. I have used multiple learning management systems, and BBL is my favorite Cons Blackboard was more costly than other competitors, so our organization had to transition tools because of this. Pros As a instructor blackboard lets me integrate a lot of different types of media through Kaltura, structure time released content ,vary assessments, and deliver individualized learning opportunities. All of these elements are crucial to my instruction. As a student, I get mobile access and notifications about grades, announcements, and course changes that help me manage my learning. Cons While the features are wonderful, they are somewhat convoluted to properly utilize, requiring more steps than I would like, and can sometimes be "hidden" in such ways that I have to refer back to user guides because it's not a very intuitive integration. Therefore, as a student, I find many of my professors do not fully take advantage of the learning management system because they have limited knowledge. Review Source EO Evan O. December 5, 2022 5.0 Overall using Blackboard has been a good experience and I would certainly use it again in a learning environment. Pros Best part of this software it that it make online learning available anywhere. It is easy to navigate throughout the program and see what assignments and lessons you have due. The program lays out the information in an organized way. Once you learn the system it is easy to navigate to what you need, ie communicate with the professor etc. Cons The hardest part about Blackboard learn is navigating the UI. A good compromise between in person lessons and remote learning. Pros The software offers you a large number of features to manage remote learning and monitor students' progresses. It both supports the upload of material for asynchronous learning and live lessons with the possibility for participants to intervene in the chat or through the mic. Cons Some features are quite counter-intuitive to manage and you need proper training to get to know all of them, especially regarding asynchronous videos to post for independent study. Pros I have found it easy to use and easy to get used to. I like the value that it brings to the educational experience. Cons It's not the most modern product. That being said all the tools exist once you get used to it and find them. Pros Hosting courses on Blackboard is better than having another software. Helps with managing your class and multiple users can work together to add work to it. Integration with zoom is great and necessary. Eases the maintenance that comes with large classes for teacher assistants and professors. Cons So many features could be improved. We now use Canvas and prefer that to Blackboard Learn. Cons It seemed to me that this software was tricky to navigate. Not too easy on the eyes when I used it. There was a lot going on with it and it wasn't always intuitive. Pros Its interface allows the students to see all the content easily and you can keep track of who's been left behind. Cons Blackboard Collaborate is terrible, it kicks out students who have a bad internet connection and it takes up tons of RAM. I would definitely recommend Blackboard as a means to provide course materials to students. Pros Blackboard makes it possible to teach courses fully online. It is also useful for courses that are being taught on-campus, because all the materials can be posted there so instructors don’t have to print multiple copies, and students can access them anytime. Instructors can also have blackboard grade quizzes and tests automatically (except essay questions have to be graded manually) so students can check their answers after submitting their work. Tests and quizzes can also be timed, and if you have students with disabilities who have extended time on tests as an accommodation, you can set them up with the additional time. Cons I used Blackboard the whole time I was in graduate school (2 years) for both online and on-campus courses, and I have only positive things to say about it. Review Source John C. Cons For users who are not used to e-Learning, navigating through the platform takes time for training and support. It is not as readily user-intuitive as others. I get plenty of questions in the Discussion Board and also in response to the announcements, especially closer to assignment due dates. Pros I can post a variety of media in the Announcements section and in the Content Areas. The more options I can give students to access the information they need, the better. Cons There may be a way to do this and I haven't figured out how yet, but I would like to be able to transfer a whole content area from one course to another instead of starting from scratch each time. November 14, 2018 4.0 Pros I enjoyed the navigation features that made it easy to use Blackboard LMS. Some new software my company has implemented has been very difficult to navigate and understand, but this was not. Cons We experienced some browser issues with Blackboard. Many could not access certain features using Internet Explorer, which we understand now is outdated. Google Chrome seemed to be the best browser to use and has work pretty good ever since. Helpful once you know what you are doing. Pros This software has little details on the student side that is missing from other learning platforms, like specialized involvement for presenting or using collaborative videos/meetings. It gives the students more freedoms and ways to ask questions without leaving the teacher unable to see or change needed items. Cons It was difficult to learn once you open the program, and there is not a tutorial or walkthrough for the overall site. You have to explore on your own, and it can be tough.
