### "A simple endpoint backup solution"

October 3, 2016

5.0

I have been using CrashPlan for over two years for about 30 of my customers. Aside from a few issues with memory usage for larger backup sets (issues that were quickly resolved with by a chat with support), I have had almost no problems. Backups run, complete, and restores always work. The software's focus is on backing up endpoints, not servers. But it works fine with simple file servers and is a very inexpensive way to protect data. It's really a last resort backup for most of my clients - not something they depend on from day to day, but it's a great solution in case they end up with a hole in the ground for an office. The setup process only takes a few minutes. Restores are relatively intuitive - just pick a date and then pick a file. Small restores can be done through a web interface. I have never had to do any large scale restores, but I can imagine that they would be difficult since there is no way to have a hard drive shipped to you - the restores have to be done over the internet through their software.

Pros

Inexpensive, remarkably reliable.

Cons

Tends to be a bit of a memory hog.

### "Truly the worst"

August 11, 2016

1.0

We've been using the software for 5 years and had numerous problems including stalled clients, corrupt backup archives that the software verified as good until we tried to restore. Many bugs, requiring constant tweaking of servers and clients. In addition, the CrashPlan is very slow. It can take several days to scan a machine if it has lots of files.

Pros

The offsite onsite model and general approach are great., if only it worked. Support try hard to help, but it's very time consuming.

Cons

Slow and unreliable. Bewildering UI. Update process incredibly complex.

### "CrashPlan- Review"

August 1, 2022

4.0

It was good. You have options to take the entire backup or you can choose the folder as per your need. The restoration is also very convenient to do.

Pros

The most impactful feature is backup and restore. We use this product to take backup of our entire data on the PC. The entire backup process goes easy and ofcourse because its automated.

Cons

There is no such feature that I find is missing from my perspective. It gives all the possible and feasible options which are required from a user's point of view.

### "Great peace of mind for backing up your personal stuff. "

May 8, 2018

4.0

Peace of mind that my important stuff gets backed up and I don't have to worry about doing it manually.

Pros

I use the business plan for my personal stuff (photos, docs, etc.). I like that it's offsite and backs up automatically. I get a simple email telling me if the backup was successful or not. I recently had to use their customer support and their instructions were PERFECT. Easy to understand for the average joe. Not at all what I expected from an IT company. Kudos!

Cons

Getting it setup initially was harder than it should have been considering their tech support was so amazing. Maybe it was just me... I was setting up on a new computer.

### "Great for the money"

February 5, 2018

5.0

One of my favorite backup software, unfortunately, I might just have to shop around after they removed the family plan.

Pros

I loved this program, have been using it for over two years and I can't complain. It backs up your system entirely just in case.

Cons

Was very upset when they canceled their home plan. Backup should be simple to do. In one backup the system took 16gig of resources. Their backup schedule should be a simple setup. Backup files and then backup system image with files.

Cons

With cloud services coming on and advent of networked machines, expecting that Crashplan would continue to offer more differentiating features

### "CrashPlan is King"

February 17, 2016

5.0

We have been using CrashPlan for almost 3 years now and it continues to impress as an endpoint backup solution. The true beauty of it lies in its stealth, simplicity and reliability. The easiest way to get end users on board with new technology is with technology that is invisible to them. Some of our users ask periodically if the backup is even running because they don't see anything. This is music to the ears of IT professionals. For around $1/week per user, you can't beat the quality, reliability and the value of CrashPlan PROe. The latest versions (5.x) are rolling out many new capabilities that we are excited to take advantage The home version works just as well for your personal devices, too.

Pros

It does everything it claims to do, and it does it quickly, quietly and seamlessly. The administrative console is easy to use and navigate. After the environment is up and running, maintenance and administration is minimal.

Cons

There is an occasional delay in responses to online tickets, mostly due to time zone differences depending on who picks it up. Phone support is faster if you cannot wait.

### "Code42 CrashPlan; keep your data safe."

February 25, 2016

5.0

In higher education, students are reliant upon the ability for the faculty and staff to produce and support a quality product, which is their education. In order for this to happen on a consistent basis, the staff and faculty must be able to do their jobs. Data must be available all the time. But in the real world, the ongoing battle rages between those on the outside who have a desire to disrupt work with the motivation of making a profit at other's expense. There is also the battle of hardware failures, and user errors to name a few. There is so many ways to lose data, it's amazing we are able to accomplish anything at all. Enter Code42 CrashPlan. We started using this product several years ago. We started using this product several years ago. We were on a tape backup system that honesty was a poor excuse for data backup. From request to recovery was at least an 18-hour turnaround time. And recovery was a crap shoot at best. With Code42 CrashPlan, turn around is only limited by the amount of data being recovered. The more data to recover, the longer it takes to download. And 95% of the time, recovery is completed in 30 minutes or less. There have been times we were hit by ransomware viruses, but because of CrashPlan, the encrypted data was replaced in a matter of a few short hours. So we are extremely pleased with CrashPlan. We have it deployed to over 1000 machines including some servers. Training users was not a problem. The software uses very little resources which is always a plus.

Pros

Reliable backups, not dependent on platform. Peace of mind. Easy data recovery 24/7. It in your hands and in your control.

Cons

Not cheap, but well worth the expense.

### "Solid Backup Software for Orgs of A Certain Size"

September 11, 2022

Pros

Crashplan was easy to setup and provided great customer service for a fair price.

Cons

Many of the features of Crashplan were aimed at enterprise clients, and the management portal was somewhat overwhelming for the needs of our small organization.

### "Reliable and fast backup solution"

August 8, 2017

5.0

Pros

Trustworthy backup solution. Having used code42's backup solutions for both business and personal backups for over 5 years, I can attest to their reliability and speed of backup. Business plans allow one to access employee backups online, which saved us a ton of rework. Personal plans also allow remote restoration, giving real peace of mind regarding the safety of personal files.

### "Good backup cloud solution"

December 7, 2019

4.0

Overall I like CrashPlan. It has been a reliable option for storing documents on my computer daily. It can be used for more than one computer and as long as it is connected to the internet it will store you documents in a cloud.

Pros

I like that it runs in the background when I schedule it to. It can easily store documents from more than one computer and is easy to set up. Retrieval of information and documents is easy and allows you to select some or all of the documents.

Cons

It is hard to get a hold of any customer service representatives. If there is an issue its hard to resolve quickly.

### "CrashPlan By Code42 Provides Behind The Scenes Backup"

October 9, 2018

5.0

CrashPlan solves my need to remember to do a full backup regularly. It also means that at any point in time if my hard drive fails I don't have to panic because restoring is easy.

Pros

Once CrashPlan is set up it runs continually, in the background, backing up as you work. I have not noticed any affect on my computer processing speed like I did with other backup software

Cons

Sometimes the backup on the second computer fails to connect.

### "One of the best backup software"

March 20, 2016

5.0

Because your data is very valuable, you need to take care of how you handle it. You want to secure your computer, with password and encryption, but you also want to make sure you won't lose anything. Your computer may be under warranty but if the hard drive break, you will lose all your data. You may receive a virus, delete a file by mistake, or overwrite the wrong version of a document. But, if you are not an IT pro, you don't have much options. Crashplan is so easy to use, that anyone can go on the website, purchase a subscription, and install the software, in minutes. If you manage your company, you can have a business account and manage your employee data, without any specific knowledge. Finding an online backup software is easy, but one that you can leverage from a single user to thousand of user, from personal to a large corporation, Crashplan is one of the best.

Pros

Schedule Versioning Remote Recovery End-User management Bandwidth Management Encryption Easy-of-User

Cons

If you have to pay 120$ per computer per year, you may look at alternative that gives other features. Sometimes, Dropbox is enough.

### "Reliable backup software that is easy to set up and use"

February 18, 2021

5.0

CrashPlan was a very affordable online backup solution for our small business. We only have one server, and even though you can set up multiple servers and computers to use CrashPlan, we only needed one. We also set up continuous backup, but set the hours for the evening so it would not interfere with our daily work (such as Quickbooks). Our SQL data is also backed up.

Pros

We needed to find a replacement for an online backup software package that was no longer working reliably for our company. CrashPlan was easy to install and was up and running within an hour. The initial load of our data took many hours, but that is to be expected.

Cons

The reporting options are actually a bit more complex than what I need. Reports can be set up for several users, but we only have one user.

Switched from

[IDrive](https://www.capterra.com/p/171884/IDrive/)

iDrive was not working properly on our new server. iDrive was not responding and the backup process was not completing successfully.

### "Good way to archive your whole machine to the cloud"

May 31, 2018

4.0

Pros

Crashplan is great because most times I don't even remember it's there. However I am safe in the knowledge that should anything happen to my machine I have an up to date copy of all my data on the cloud.

Cons

The web interface is quite buggy and I had multiple issues trying to enter my credit card details into it until it was resolved by a support rep.

### "An Effective way to backup your Data on the Cloud and your local network"

January 7, 2020

4.0

Overall Crashplan feels very solid and professional way to protect your data

Pros

I used Crashplan for almost 2 years, as a client to backup all my clients data on local servers. the menus are simple and yet complex and when the time comes and you need to recover your data the process is very simple and quite fast (depends of course what size of backup data files you have)

Cons

Does a lot of problems with Very old OS (windows XP for example) sadly as a company that have some very old software that don't work well on win7 and above the Crashplan didn't work good on them. the Price is little bit high compare to other products in the market

### "Good backups, especially as a secondary cloud save."

October 3, 2019

4.0

It's a great offsite backup option, probably wouldn't make it my only backup but it is peace of mind for disaster recovery.

Pros

Decent cross platform support, not limited on backup size. It has a number of options to backup your data. Can't beat the price for the storage. Keeps deleted files indefinitly.

Cons

Runs on java, easier network and removable storage backups. More control on the backups with deletions, selections and exceptions. Verification on file backup could be better. Needs block level deduplication.

### "Fantastic Utility"

March 2, 2017

5.0

Before starting with my current company I had not heard of Code 42 CrashPlan. I know of them now! They application is very easy to deploy and even easier to maintain. We deployed the application to over 150 field sales associates with little or no input or assistance from the help desk. The application is almost self maintaining. We have used the restore functionality on many occasions and have been successful in keeping our field sales associates technologically ready and current.

Pros

Ease of deployment Ease of use The support team

Cons

The movement from Cold Storage could use a little more work.

The ease of use and "set it and forget" it by scheduling my backup nightly. I know my files are securely backed up off-site in case of emergency or major system failure.

Cons

October 6, 2017

4.0

Pros

CrashPlan is simple to use and has a nice interface. I like the variety of backup options it provides. It is completely customizable for your environment.

Cons

I would like to see more options for automated install and registration of users. Something that can be installed on a computer before it is given to the end user.

### "Endpoint backup without the endpoint pain"

June 30, 2016

We have several mobile users and if you have ever tried normal backup software you know that it can be difficult. With Crashplan it just sits on the system and does what it does best, backup the laptop. No admin interaction is needed. New version? No problem, auto updates if configured. Users can restore a file by themselves.

Pros

Just works, low admin overhead.

### "Super Simple Backup with Enterprise Features"

March 17, 2016

5.0

We've been using Crashplan PROe for 4 years now to backup anything and everything that we deem should be backed up on end user workstations and non-critical systems. Critical systems are backed up by a different system that pushes offsite, so Crashplan is our 'everything else' solution, and it is amazing for that.

Pros

Restores are incredibly simple and intuitive, they're almost fun to do. I LOVE when someone gets hit with ransomwhere (how sad is that?), and I put their files back with a click. Management is simple, it's almost a set-it-and-forget-it program. The few times we have had to reach out to support, they have been prompt in their responses and always give a full response with an explanation and resolution instructions.

Cons

I don't have much criticism here, other than maybe lower the per-license cost a little more so that I can pick up more user licenses in my existing budget.

I've used it to have a smooth transition to my new laptop and for the most part it allowed me to get all my files in place with a few exceptions but were not a real issue.

### "Get Code42"

December 12, 2017

5.0

Pros

Code42 makes recovery of data a quick, easy process and not the headache it used to be! We have had numerous times where we have been able to restore data for a user.

Cons

There is not a thing about Code42, (CrashPlan) that we do not like. It does what it says it does and has been instrumental in restoring data that was lost as well as for doing refresh and not having manually back up the data and manually uploading it.
