### "Unlimited cloud backups"

November 28, 2018

4.0

Pros

I love that you can backup as many external hard drives as you need to and that they don't ever delete your backups (like BackBlaze does).

Cons

It seems to backup pretty slowly. It would be nice if it would backup faster, but they do seem to be improving this a bit.

### "Always have a backup plan!"

November 27, 2018

4.0

When one backup fails there’s always another backup and then also a backup of the backup.

Pros

Does what I need. Being able to select specific folders to backup and to also have a backup of the backups!

Cons

The initial set up was a little tricky, but managed to eventually get it all sorted.

### "Crashplan Pro Enterprise - Simple, Just Works"

January 2, 2019

5.0

Pros

Set it and forget it. Data de-duplication makes backups fast. Easy to track clients that may have issues, many configuration options.

Cons

They have changed their business model over the years and the price for what used to be called CrashPlan ProE has gone up.

### "It works, but the home user option has been discontinued."

January 15, 2019

5.0

Pros

I used CrashPlan for nearly 8 years at home for multiple users. Easy to use software and super customizable.

Cons

They dropped all market share for home users and only have the small business line now for home users. Prices jumped. Left for another vendor.

### "Awesome Backup System with Awesome Pricing!"

April 6, 2016

5.0

We utilize Crashplan as ransomware insurance and a quick-and-dirty disaster recovery system. My organization has been hit by floods and hurricanes, and one of my offices is now in a tornado-prone area, so, better safe than sorry. Crashplan is simple, yet powerful, allowing me to ensure I have multiple backups of all of my important files in case something happens, and I've had to utilize it to restore from a ransomware infestation more than once. This system is a lifesaver!

Pros

Great pricing, simple interface, and fast restores. This platform has it all.

Cons

The software gets a little aggressive when first installed and starts automatically backing up the current user's profile. That's great if you're logged in as the end user, but not if you're logged in as yourself on someone else's PC to do the install. It's a quick adjustment in the Backup tab to get the right data though.

### "Simply the Best"

April 14, 2016

5.0

I am shocked by the number of people that do not have any backup whatsoever, and even more shocked when their only backup is a manual "copy from here paste to there every 6 months". Whether you are backing up your family photos, music, documents, receipts or business information, project files and work, you will find Crash Plan to be the best option both in terms of usability and cost. I've personally restored files from crash plan off of backups of computers that I no longer have because they failed, up to 2 years earlier. I back up my whole house. Offsite and every day. It's automated and you only pay around $6 a month so there is no excuse not to do it.

Pros

Peace of mind! I have over 1GB of photos as I am an avid amateur photographer of my kids and other things. I also take lots of video. It's all backed up. All of my tax returns, anything is there backed up. I've had computers die, built a new one and then adopted an existing backup so it doesn't have to redo 500-800GB of data all over.

Cons

It can take some time to initially seed your backup if you have close to 1TB or more. And the connection depends largely upon your internet connection quality. The cons are not a show stopper for me. I might miss one or two files being backed up from time to time until the next day.

### "Simple Backup for Mobile Endpoints"

February 4, 2016

5.0

We purchased CrashPlan to replace our deployment of Retrospect for backing up our mobile fleet. Utilizing a VM in our infrastructure, we deployed the CrashPlan server in no time, and had our endpoints backing up to our private storage in no time. The added benefit of being able to customize the installer on our Mac computers, allowing us to deploy using Active Directory credentials and to utilize our JAMF Casper solution to deploy and manage was a huge plus. The CrashPlan agent runs silently in the background and does not take up a lot of compute cycles, so our users never know it is running. Backing up endpoints when they are away from the office makes CrashPlan the ultimate solution for us.

Pros

Easy install, strong filtering of files to prevent backup of non-critical files like MP3 files, and an easy to use GUI for the end users to pull their own restores.

Cons

I cannot think of anything off the top of my head.

### "CrashPlan Pro (Code42)"

February 9, 2021

5.0

I've been using CrashPlan Pro, and now called Code42 for over 10 years and overall I really like how it works. I started with the On-Prem solution, and moved to the Code42 Cloud a few years ago. The Cloud product allowed me to do away with our in-house CrashPlan Pro servers and huge storage arrays.

Pros

Over 10 years ago, CrashPlan Pro came recommended by an IT friend. I've been using since then.

Cons

Overall, the ease of use for the end user is nice. However, the admin portal and all the intricate settings takes some time to get used to as well as tweaking of the settings.

Reason for choosing CrashPlan

An IT friend suggested CrashPlan Pro and he helped me get things setup and operational.

### "Great way to back up your stuff"

March 22, 2016

5.0

I have used Crash Plan for several years now. I started out with just the free version backing up to a friends computer. I found it super helpful to back up to the cloud and have access to all of my files from my phone, or any machine I logged into. I back up my parents computers to my own machine and the cloud as well. It is super easy to use and sits in the back ground without needing any special attention. I also like the backup reports I get in my email every week and special reports when a certain machine hasn't been able to back up in a while.

Pros

Easy to use. Allows me to back up to any location for free. Has a cloud backup solution that is excellent. I have saved my three terabyte hard drive twice in the last 2 years. Unlimited cloud storage when paid for.

Cons

It is sometimes a resource hog. The interface feels a bit clunky and out of date.

### "CrashPlan for System Sanity"

October 17, 2016

5.0

Implementation of CrashPlan was a no-brainer for us. With a population of mostly mobile systems, this ensures our data no matter what may happen to a physical system. In addition, it gives us peace of mind at the threat of cryptolockers- the threat is completely nullified by the ability to simply wipe a system and re-image.

Pros

\-Easy to Deploy -Excellent Support -Lightweight and quiet- doesn't bother our end users and can be deployed silently.

Cons

\-Back end management could use some work. -Can't search globally on cloud environments.

### "Enterprise is still lacky"

August 28, 2018

Trying to backup! Great, crashplan will help you with that, trying to restore, you may run into problems with connections or SSL certificates. It seems like there are better options for better money out there,

Pros

The software seems very straightforward. Install a client, linked to a server , set up some settings. "easy"

Cons

We ran into many problems with settings that were not well documented, or clear. An issue which caused a stop in deployment, and I spoke with someone whose speciality was reporting and not anywhere close to my issue

I love that I can constantly be backing up everything. It gives me peace of mind that I won’t lose anything important. I am a wedding photographer and so it is nice to know my stuff is saved in multiple places.

Cons

### "Best End Point backup solution"

January 2, 2017

5.0

Code42 is the best cloud-based endpoint backup program that we found while researching a new backup system. As many other users states, it just works! Extremely easy to restore files for users that accidentally delete something or have get locked out due to ransomware. It's also great to use when a user switches to a new computer.

Pros

Worry free file backup, easy to deploy, runs silently in the background.

Cons

The public cloud version lags a little behind compared to the new product updates for the on-premise solution.

### "Problems Setting it Up"

May 21, 2018

4.0

Pros

I like that it is reasonably priced and backs up my server and individual laptops every day. I switched to this plan on the advice of my IT professional.

Cons

We had a really hard time getting it to back up properly to begin with but after about 6 tries we finally got it working properly.

### "Endpoint Backup made easy to use and manage"

August 23, 2016

5.0

Do yourself a favor and choose Code42 CrashPlan if you are looking for an endpoint backup that is easy to setup and deploy. CrashPlan will not let you down when you need it the most to recover your hard day's work.

Pros

Ease of setup with a clean client interface which make self-restores an easy process. Haven't had to submit a lot of support cases because the product just works but when I have, they are always helpful.

Cons

Nothing Major - Reporting could be presented a little better.

### "Crashplan is always there and running to back up your mac"

June 15, 2018

5.0

backups with out fuss

Pros

I am a software consultant for a fortune 100 company, and they have rolled out CrashPlan to all the macs. The software just runs..and never stinks CPU to back up your machine. You never have to worry about the software...it just does its job and backs you up. Highly recommended.

Cons

when on VPN, CrashPlan still attempts to back you up...I wish there was a feature that would sense that you are on VPN and throttle or delay the backups (a setting, not everyone would like this feature)

### "Disappointed at the price increases. "

August 3, 2018

5.0

Pros

Ok so I have been using this program for over 4 years now and still love it. Really helps to put my mind at ease. Just set it up and tell it what you want to backup and forget about it.

Cons

I hate the new backup engine. It takes so long and you can see the upload and download speed anymore in mbps, only time which is subjective and useless. I also hate the doubling of prices, its alot and I have been looking at what other options are out there but havent found anything even close to crashplan yet.

### "Data protection in an enterprise enviroment"

September 16, 2015

5.0

My university has been using Code 42's CrashPlan for nearly 2 years now and the system just keeps getting better and better. The software is a fantastic tool that we put on every single staff and faculty machine to ensure data protections for the inevitable loss of data do to theft, hardware failure, or human error. Thanks to this software we are able to manage all of our user accounts though a cloud based console that give us the ability to make changes to machines that are being backed up as well as monitor the users to ensure consistent backups are being done. This give our IT department a since of security when it comes to data protection. We can restore data at a moments notice whenever needed thanks to this product. The only down side is that when using a cloud based server as opposed to a local server the restore process can take days for anything over 20GB. We had a user with 250GB that needed to be restored and the process took 7 days to get the data back. I understand the limitation when using the cloud based option but it would be nice if the restore speed could be increased a little. Aside from that one issue though the software performs at the level of security and coverage needed for an enterprise environment.

Pros

Security, Ease of use, Customer Champions,

Cons

Restore Speed can be a little lacking

### "Great Product, Amazing Customer Service"

September 17, 2015

5.0

This product works great. Back ups occur without VPN dependency, and after the initial back up set, are completely unnoticed. The settings are fairly granular, and the Customer Champions are super helpful with any questions on set up, or maintenance. Code42 is very committed to it's customers, and actively seeks input on issues with it's current versions, as well as suggestions for upcoming releases. The variety of backup storage options, should suit any situation.

Pros

I can't say enough about how good the customer service is for this product! The free server application, and unlimited cloud storage work great for our organization

Cons

Setting bandwidth caps to the organization, rather than the users would be helpful, but it's a pretty minor issue.

### "Great software, but poor non-enterprise support "

August 11, 2021

3.0

Pros

Crashplan was great. Backups work well. Scheduling is great, network detection works well. Restores work well.

Cons

Crashplan used to be a popular backup solution for clients in the home-SMB-Enterprise markets but over the years has removed support for Home and many SMB users. We have hosted our own CrashPlan PRO server for years but are moving away from it due difficulty in maintaining our servers and the fact the Code42 is moving customers away from the self-hosted solutions and now has an offering with fewer features.
