### "CrashPlan PROe can save your sanity"

January 13, 2016

4.0

Good backups are good security! Code42's CrashPlan arrived on the scene for our company just days after ransomware "ate" the desktop of one of our administrative assistants at a remote location. We weren't able to save that desktop data, but we wanted it to be the last time an admin loses so much work in a single incident. Since then, we have quietly rolled out CrashPlan to our top tier admins who support our Leadership and Executive teams to great effect. We feel the IT department should be either invisible or making lives easier, and CrashPlan allows us to do both! We promoted it as a productivity tool, allowing tech support to have some of our busiest users back up and running in mere minutes after an incident, rather than hours or days.

Pros

CrashPlan is easy to deploy, and easy to set up. It provides a fantastic sense of reassurance to some of our most sensitively-placed users with a nearly invisible roll out. We want everyone to save their work to the shared drives - but if they don't, CrashPlan is there to save the day.

Cons

On the back end, we had some issues getting invitations pushed out to users, and we found it was easier to use our own deployment tool. We also had an issue with password resets on the dashboard for our admins, but we resolved that by having it use LDAP to authenticate.

### "Best Backup Service for Small Business"

June 22, 2018

5.0

Pros

Small app that does a good job of backing up important files. It auto restarts and rarely fails. If the app does fail the system notifies you via email. It keeps multiple revisions of the files so you can not only restore them quickly but go back to a later date if you need to. The app allows you to set up a local backup as well as your cloud backup for quick restores. Definitely, a must if you are required to store legal documents for up to 8 years like our company.

Cons

The app can sometimes get stuck on huge files but most of the time it resolves the issue without assistance. Can sometimes take up a lot of RAM depending on how many files you need backed up.

### "Easy file backup and recovery"

November 16, 2017

5.0

Peace of mind knowing my files are safe. My business depends on these files, so this is very important.

Pros

\- Not only is it very easy to recover a file, but I can select what time to recover it from, in about 7 minute increments. This is fantastic when something goes wrong with a file; you can get the one from yesterday, or the one from a few minutes ago. - It was very easy to select what files I wanted backed up, and I know my files are safe and can be recovered from anywhere. - The initial backup took a reasonable amount of time. - Restoring files is instant. - I'm not limited on storage space.

Cons

It doesn't do everything. There is no bare-metal restore, so I will need another program for that. I did not find any problems or issues with this software.

### "CrashPlan ProE"

November 13, 2015

5.0

We have used Crashplan for about 1.5 years now using an on-premise appliances supplied by code42. Our previous solution was Connected Backup which the backup portion would work fine. We started running into issues on restores of compressed files (.pst and .zip) mostly. Since we have implemented crashplan we backup around 6500 devices and average about 1.7TB of data restores per month. Additionally 96% of these restores are all self-service.

Pros

1) fast roll out. We rolled out 2800 users in about 3 weeks time without issue. 2) ease of setup and expandable. 3) tie into AD. 4)continuous backup 5)Customer Champions are awesome

Cons

1) Reporting out of the box lacks. But the Ties to the API using Splunk is a good substitute.

### "Great endpoint backup product with some key"

October 17, 2017

5.0

Pros

They nail the endpoint backup thing! The new features they have added are great for certain uses cases, such as legal holds and insider threat monitoring.

Cons

Would love to get away from the need for an on-premises appliance while still keeping the security that we get with the appliance. Would save the inconvenience of constantly updating and patching to keep up with all the latest and greatest. Would also love to have a native app rather than a Java based app.

### "Great enterprise backup solution "

March 28, 2019

4.0

CrashPlan has been a great product for us. We are able to easily deploy it from our deployment server with 100% confidence that it will work.

Pros

The CrashPlan agent works really well. We have not had any issues with backups not starting and we have not had to fix the agent connection once. I love the file versioning and the options for restoring files.

Cons

The web console isn't great. The UI is clunky. Assigning organizations and creating users takes a couple more clicks then it needs to.

### "Piece of mind"

April 13, 2016

5.0

I have been using Crashplan for over three years. I really like having the ability to go back to a specific date and time and restore an old copy of a file or entire project. Crashplan Is able to do this with deduplication so the archive size doesn’t grow exponentially. It is ridiculously fast and easy to restore files. If you are still using tape backups, you have no idea what you are missing. Backing up to multiple destinations is also a key feature. Every time I restore files, I am amazed at how quick and easy it is.

Pros

Once this is configured correctly, it works very well.

Cons

If you do encounter a problem, you will more than likely need to contact support to help you solve the problem. Thankfully, they have support.

### "Crashplan makes backing up your computer easy"

February 1, 2019

5.0

Pros

Running daily backups on my laptop is easy with Crashplan. Just set it and let it do the work. It doesn't seem to hog bandwidth while backing up either.

Cons

There aren't any cons to mention. It has been reliable.

### "Terrific Solution!"

September 17, 2015

4.0

We tried other solutions… they claim to backup well, but underperformed when trying to actually restore lost data. CrashPlan delivers the goods when it comes time to restore. Our Help Desk has fewer requests for restores from our internal servers–users are empowered to self serve.

Pros

Very minimal amount of time allocated to managing the console. Users can self support by doing restores themselves. The mobile App. This adds so much value. There are many use cases for this that we haven't even thought of yet. Makes easy work of migrating to new hardware.

Cons

Large installations can get pricey. Phone technical support can get busy and require a call back.

### "Crashplan is making a significant progress."

March 20, 2020

5.0

I have deployed Crashplan to multiple companies as a secondary, offsite backup solution.

Pros

\-Simple to setup and use. -Very reliable. -Easy restores. -Unlimited retention. -Fairly inexpensive. -Server and desktop versions available.

Cons

\-I feel the customer support is fairly lacking, but adequate if you are willing to wait a little bit. -I have experienced a lot of issues with creating an account and/or updating the CC recently on their website.

### "Enterprise feature set, mid-market ease of use"

October 1, 2015

5.0

Easy to deploy and manage. Minimal learning curve. End user adoption not a challenge. Works as advertised.

Pros

Enterprise class features like (Active) Directory integration and storing encryption keys on-site while using cloud backup. The product works as advertised and our end users like which means they use it which means our data is safe. The reporting allows us to be sure - imperially - that backups are current.

Cons

There is a cost and the pace of updates means your ops team will upgrade multiple times per year. While they are painless, they still require attention to perform and ensure stability.

### "Best Backup Solution I've Found"

January 16, 2016

5.0

I have personally been using CrashPlan for the past few years after testing the "share to friend's feature". I liked what I saw, did some research, and decided to jump. It was money worth spent especially for the peace of mind it brought for protecting my files, pictures, and music. Little did I know that not long after purchasing a personal subscription to CrashPlan, my employer decided to purchase PROe. As an IT technician, I was part of the initial rollout so that we could evaluate it for the rest of the organization. A couple of years later and we are still using it and rely on it to backup every computer assigned to a full-time employee. On multiple occasions, CrashPlan has been there to restore data during catastrophic issues. Hard drive failures, not a problem. CryptoLocker, no sweat. We even use it for new computer deployments and just have the end user download their backed up data and then adopt their former computer’s backup. Everything just seems to work. Lastly, Code42 support has been great to us. They are quick to respond to questions or concerns. I cannot recommend CrashPlan highly enough.

Pros

Fast, reliable backups. Easy to restore in times of failures or upgrades

Cons

Backing up to or from network drives could be better. It only really works well when installed in a multi-user environment.

### "Excellent Product"

September 16, 2015

5.0

CrashPlan is a lightweight application that handles backup with little no impact to device resources. We currently use it on our servers and faculty/staff laptops. It also makes data migration a simple task.

Pros

\-Unlimited cloud storage -File versioning -Lightweight -Easy to administer with a centralized management console. -End users can restore a file without contacting IT. I have not had to help someone with a restore on their laptop for months, maybe over a year.

Cons

Sometimes the user interface can be a little confusing for end users. However, usually after a little coaching, they are off and running.

### "Great price point for unlimited backup"

August 6, 2018

3.0

We needed offsite backups but the budget for it was tight. Crashplan fits the bill expect that the software is unreliable. Keep an eye on it to make sure it's doing its job.

Pros

Runs on server OS with unlimited backups for a flat rate. Price is exceptional and application is easy to use.

Cons

App crashes all the time and uses far more memory than it should. Frequently requires manual intervention, which is no good for a backup solution

### "Default settings cause deterioration over time, ux is bad, support is good. Service stops frequently"

June 14, 2018

3.0

Backup my computers.

Pros

The service allows backup to both the Cloud and a local backup (HD or external disk) if desired. You can back up multiple computers within the same account.

Cons

The new ux is terrible. I can't figure it out. The old one was simple, intuitive, and easy to use. The default settings cause performance to decrease over time, which is "upside down". The service stops frequently, and requires manual intervention to restart. Support provided me with fixes (which ultimately didn't work) to be issued by terminal command. A backup service shouldn't require terminal commands!

### "Don’t do it"

September 6, 2022

Terrible

Pros

We lost data and Code 42 tried to recover. After a month it was a total loss.

Cons

Data loss and no help from Code 42. The product is also hard to set up compared to other back up solutions

### "Seamless Backup"

March 31, 2018

5.0

Pros

I have been using CrashPlan for a few years and feel "protected" knowing that the application is always running and backing up my files. Perhaps, most beneficial is that you can setup email notifications if your computer hasn't been backed up in "x" days. This is amazing useful. While there are many software platforms that do backups, few alert you when they haven't done one in "x" days. As a result, you are blindly thinking everything is working when it may not.

Cons

I find the restore speeds to be a little slow. It isn't an internet connection issue (tried on fibre and other internet connections). It seems to be more related to how they store the backups and extract the data.

### "It's an easy to setup software to keep your files uploaded remotely"

March 19, 2019

4.0

I lost my files because the software took weeks to upload everything. When I needed to retrieve my files I saw that not even half of my files were uploaded. Lost single copies to old photos. Customer service didn't provide any help other than "what's there it's there".

Pros

I liked that it was easy to install, plus it's one of the cheapest options to get your files stored remotely.

Cons

I found that it takes a lot of resources to keep everything up to date, also the transfer speeds are really slow. They should have an options to increase to unlimited bandwidth when the computer is not in use.

### "Backup Everything!"

October 27, 2018

4.0

Works well and we still continue to use it. We find it extremely valuable on our VIP users that we need to make sure we have as many safeguards in place as possible.

Pros

It backs up everything you tell it to and has a ton of flexibility in how it does that. It is easy to deploy and manage your devices to make sure they are being backed up and haven't fallen behind on backing up.

Cons

It cannot do a bare metal restore. We can easily restore files, but not from the ground up. You will have to spend some time building the machine again to get it back to where it was if you are doing a complete restore.

### "Complete software"

September 17, 2015

5.0

With crash plan, we have been able to do everything from end point backup to new system roll outs. Primarily, we use this as a client backup and in the 12 months we have been using the software, there has not been a single case of a user not being able to retrieve a backed up file.

Pros

The best part has to be the ease of use from the user end. In higher education, we often deal with people that are used to doing the same thing in the same way over and over, but Crash plan was easy to adopt and integrate with our existing systems.

Cons

Some of our existing users had personal crash plan accounts before our institution wide rollouts. In a perfect world, we would have been able to merge these accounts with their new institution accounts.

### "Great backup software that is Fast, Secure, easy to use and Invisible to the user"

November 10, 2017

5.0

Secure, Offsite Backup that is protected from ransomware. The services is extremely easy and they have great tech support for questions.

Pros

I like that it is always running in the background, backing up as people work and make changes to files. I feel secure knowing my data is encrypted and stored offsite. The software and portal are very easy to use. Customer service and Tech support are great too.

Cons

There is not much to not like with this software. It just works and does what it says it does. If you have older servers, they don't support Server 2003 so that could be a disappointment.

### "Was great but no longer"

November 14, 2017

4.0

Pros

Crashplan worked in the background without slowing down my computer. It works without you having to do anything once it is set up so you don't forget to do the backups. You can backup to the cloud as well as a local drive.

Cons

They have recently upgraded and will no longer support home users. Setting up was a bit confusing and finding individual files is kludgy.

### "Crashplan gives wonderful peace of mind!"

January 27, 2017

5.0

I'm a wedding photographer and wouldn't be able to do it without multiple backups. I love having Crashplan because it's a consistent, off-site backup that runs automatically, so I don't have to worry if it's not being backed up. I get an email daily about the status and if there ever is a problem, I know right away. I also really like that it keeps my backup even if I take something off of my hard drive, which isn't something all of these cloud services do.

Pros

It runs automatically & keeps a copy on their server even if I remove it from my hard drive.

Cons

It can take a long time to do the initial backup.
