Pros: It's a simple to use. If a company is looking for an easy direct chat application, this would be a good one to consider.

Cons: It is too simple. If a company would like to integrate cloud documents or create chat rooms or channels, this would not be the right kind of software to purchase.

Overall: A way to communicate that was different than e-mail.

Pros: HipChat allows our IT teams to collaborate with ease. This allows for more efficient and effective communication among our teams. Our users have found it to be easy to use and prefer this group messaging platform to the other messaging applications we have. Video and screen-sharing is also easy with HipChat.

Cons: The user signup process can be a little tedious. Also, the customer support was a little lacking at times.

Overall: HipChat allows for easy team collaboration and communication among our IT department.

Pros: The iOS app works well. It checks off the basics of what a team chat system needs in order to accomplish its goal.

Cons: Compared to another well known team chat system, Hipchat is not as easy to use and functional. I wish you were able to edit your posts after the fact, or delete the post completely. That is one basic functionality I wish it had.

Pros: The applications interface is very straightforward. Anyone who has used any chat app in the past such as IRC, AIM or even competitor products will know exactly what to do and how to do it upon opening the app for the first time.

The web app is also essential, when using a computer other than your own you can log right in on any browser and all your conversations are accessible. The mobile app is great for those who want to stay connected while out of office.

Cons: I occasionally will miss a notification but I feel that may be more the fault of Mac OS. If they could make a "missed chat" notification a little more apparent this app would be perfect.

Overall: This application allows us to collaborate instantly. It's infinitely more useful than email or any other method of communication. Hipchat allows us to always be connected with a desktop app, a web app and a great mobile app.

Pros: Hipchat has provided a way to keep my remote group together with their desktop/browser/mobile software. We may be miles apart, but we're always just a message away.

Cons: I wish I had slightly better control over notifications. It's a nitpick, but for software that I use so often, if that's it, they're doing a great job.

Pros: I like that it is FREE, easy to use and set up multiple users in my office. The alerts on every new message is great and I'm grateful for this software because it saves me a lot of time.

Cons: I just hate that every so often (maybe once a month), it logs off and needs me to sign back it with my username and password

Pros: If you are currently using Jira for your software or project management, you must install Hipchat. It takes the current features of Jira and brings them to a whole new level, letting you share tickets and workspaces within your team.

Cons: Getting it set up on our internally hosted solution is a bit of work. Cloud integration is easy though. It isn't as up to date as slack or other team chat software out there now.

Overall: Increase team productivity. Easier software management.

Pros: I liked the ability to form "rooms" around certain teams or projects. If only a handful of team members needed to collaborate around a specific initiative, they could do so in real time. It also took away the dreaded "reply all" bug that is common on email threads. In the rare instance someone was on a topic thread and didn't need to be, they could remove themselves without fear of more inbox clutter coming their way.

Cons: There were occasional outages - sometimes at the worst possible time. The customer service team was friendly and responsive, however.

Pros: The are several things that I like about Hipchat. First, it's extremely user friendly. I never have trouble figuring out a setting or preforming a task. Secondly, there is never any down time. I come into work and Hipchat is all ready to go! Thirdly, I love mobile aspect. It's fantastic! It keeps me up to date on company happenings wherever I go.

Cons: Although I pretty much love every aspect of Hipchat... It could use a screen shot feature for quickly screen capturing something you are working on that you need to show a co-worker.

Overall: Numerous! Being able to quickly talk with co-workers, being up to date on company happenings, not having to bother people in person or on the phone... being able to send attachments and pictures quickly... starting group chats..... the list goes on and on!

Pros: HipChat lets me have all notifications, files, links and information in one place, and makes communication very easy with all co-workers. It is also very easy to use and integrate with other apps.

Cons: I think that the information in the sidebar would be improved if you could organize the files and links in folders, or add comments to them to give an indication to other people what they are about. It takes quite long to open the files in the sidebar. When this happens, I click on the download icon and it takes less time to display the file on the browser.

Pros: HipChat is easy to install and either use the desktop client or the web client. They are always posting new updates and fixes without really changing the core product--so users always feel comfortable with it.

Cons: I can't really think of a negative of the software. Perhaps one of the Pro's actually appears to be a negative at times because the software requests that you close in order to apply updates. Since they regularly update the software, it seems to require regular restarts (maybe once every three weeks).

Cons: The mobile experience is not very good at all. The notifications are not easy to find once you open the app after receiving notification of a message.

Overall: easy mass notification and instant messaging

Comments: I have not used Hipchat competitors extensively so I cannot compare features or anything like that, but I would say I am very satisfied with Hipchat. I work remotely and find that I use hipchat more often than one on one conversations even when I'm in the office.

Pros: Creating a new room for multi-person semi-private conversations is simple. I use the search capabilities all the time to find previous conversations. It works well.

Cons: Every so often they experience down time. We haven't been too disrupted by that though. Alerts seem to be confused when using both the desktop app and mobile app. There will be times when messages go unnoticed for days because hipchat didn't properly alert the recipient. A simple email or resending the chat message alleviates the problem.

Great for business use.

Pros: I love that I can communicate with my team and co-workers daily. I love the fact that this software also comes in an app form!

Cons: What I like least about HipChat is that co-workers can HipChat me even when I am offline. Sometimes, I don't see messages until the next day, I feel as though people should not be able to communicate unless you are shown as available. It's a very minor con.

Comments: . Rooms for every departments within company and ability to invite users. . Task control and more efficient development process.

Pros: The user experience with HipChat is excellent! It uses an elegant, clean UI design that helps interact with chats in an intuitive way. The chat timeline is excellent, the user status is easy to understand and sharing files and have web cam chats is easy as pie. Plus, the application has an iOS app version and a web-based version, which brings the same level of UI simplicity.

Cons: This is annoying, as I have 4-5 teams, and again manually i'm searching for these rooms to join.Otherwise it is the best.

Pros: Free unlimited storage for messages that are sent through the software between users and in the channels.

Cons: Slow, notifications in mobile app are challenging the performance of the Yugo, turtle speed notifications in Mac app, no sync between read messages on different clients (read something on a Mac, it shows as unread on an iPhone), search is worthless, no ability to reset password from iPhone or from mobile website, password stops working on iPhone, the app shows notifications on an iPhone when there are none.

Overall: It kinda, sorta, sends messages and despite being a terrible failure at that it doesn't send me spam.

Comments: Hip Chat is great. You are able to communicate efficiently and effectively across a large organization. It is very easy to use and is a great tool for larger companies to use.

Pros: Can send a simple instant message instead of constructing an email or picking up the phone. Very user friendly and not a confusing interface at all.

Cons: Sometimes software updates caused an issue with our systems. But it got sorted out fairly quickly. No other complaints

Recommendations to other buyers: It's easy to use and would recommend to any organization.

Pros: Ease of Use

Cons: Only Admins can set up chat groups

Overall: We use HipChat for our real-time interoffice communications. We have group chats set up, and individuals can also chat among themselves. It's really great, though it's always embarrassing when you think you're in a private chat, and in reality, you're writing in the ENTIRE company's group chat!

I do wish everyone had permissions to set up groups, so you could have a chat group for, say, the company kickball team rather than just formal work chat groups. And I'm really not a fan of the emoticons. But it's a breeze to use, and I'm a huge fan of having both visual and auditory notifications. I need to hear the tone alerting me to a new message, and I need to see that flashing yellow on my desktop with the red number reminding me I've forgotten about the tone I heard. It's great having both features, and being able to utilize both simultaneously. Overall, I'm a fan of HipChat.

Recommendations to other buyers: Improve Emoticons and Ease of Use of Emoticons!

Pros: Easy to set permissions, easy to mention and notify people, good file sharing, great integrations (gifs, bots etc), available on desktop and mobile. A great way to keep track, without the emails!

Cons: Not many bad points! Sometimes if you're signed in on mobile, or have hip chat open on another device, it can be easy to miss a message but that's about it .

Overall: We use HipChat as an agency. That way the whole team can be in on the conversation - and so much information and documentation that would otherwise clog up your email, can be transferred in a quick hip chat message. Different rooms can be created for different conversations (you can set the privacy levels and participants for each), and its easy to @message people to specifically notify them.
HipChat follows a more chronological order than other app like Slack, which I feel makes it more easy to follow.

Pros: Easy to use and configure. Integrates with other Atlassian products. Has messages history, attachments, and in the paid version has video chat that works great.

Cons: None so far.

Overall: Our development team has used HipChat for over two years. We highly recommend it. Its interface is simple and very intuitive.

You can create message groups by inviting multiple members to be aware of all the details of a particular project. You can also initiate messages one by one.

If you use other Atlassian tools it can also be easily integrated. For example, in our case we use Jira so we can integrate the creation of issues so that they automatically generate messages in a group of HipChat.

Comments: I use both Slack and HipChat on a daily basis to communicate with different teams at my company. Hip Chat is very clearly overshadowed by Slack in functionality, usability, and general responsiveness.

Pros: Integrates with other Atlassian products

Cons: Mobile app is weak - logs me out randomly and is inconsistent with when I receive notifications (a huge problem since this is the point of the software) UI is clunky and hard to navigate, needs a huge overhaul to even begin to compete with Slack. Ability to easily create chats and group channels is clunky is not seamless. You must create a full room and invite people. Slack allows you to create group chats on the fly just by typing in names.

Cons: I wish there was a feature that notified you when chats were happening but wasn't in your face notifications that pop up every time. I wish there was some middle ground.

Pros: User friendly and very effective way to communicate across teams. Platform agnostic, mobile, easy to use. Also like the fact files are archived and searchable. Unlimited users for us as a nonprofit organization is an enormous bonus.

Plus, it's integration with other collaboration tools such as Asana really enabled us to improve our communications and work flow. There was a small learning curve in setting up HipChat and integrating it with other tools, but the user interface is quite simple after that. We did have some difficulty getting HipChat running on some PCs, while other PCs and Macs were fine. But the fact it's web-based and platform agnostic makes it a great tool that we use every day, in conjunction with the free version of Asana.

Recommendations to other buyers: HipChat was very generous in giving us a grant for this tool, which made it a no-brainer over costly alternatives such as Microsoft 365 or Slack. Combined with Asana, it covers all our project management, workflow and teamwork needs. It's been great.

Comments: We've found HipChat to be a great fit within our organization. With many integrations and features and stellar reliability, HipChat has become the backbone of how we work as a team. Used across the entire organization, it's worked well for people of all technical levels - including our most discerning users, our developers.

Comments: It's a mediocre chat client that seems to be plagued with connectivity problems, poor chat history search, and limited features in terms of formatting the messages you send (if it had Slack's functionality in this regard...).

integration with JIRA and Stash is quite convenient though

Comments: Overall pretty good, lacks some advanced features and still relatively new. The server is unstable so sometimes the service is down, but it supports integrations with a lot of major tools and plugins.

Comments: HipChat is a great product, however, I do like gchat just as much. Sometimes HipChat has problems and stops working. I think their customer service could do a better job of reporting these problems to the customer and resolving.

Pros: It was simple.

Cons: It didn't do much more than it seemed to at first glance. Very basic.

Overall: We used to use HipChat to fuel our team chat, but we switched to Slack and never went back. HipChat was okay but very bland. Slack has way more features and is super intuitive. HipChat would be fine if I had never used Slack, but if you're looking for team chat solution, check out Slack instead.

Comments: Hipchat is good but could be more user-friendly - for example, I don't understand why you can't search for users on your team or quickly open up a chat by typing in the search box.

Pros: There is a web app so it can just be open on your browser.

Overall: Our company uses numerous "chat" software but this one is my favorite. It is simple to start group or individual chats instead of having to have a meeting. Highly recommend!

Pros: Fun custom emojis, lots of integrations (we use the Zendesk integrations to notify us of new tickets and have a place to discuss solutions to them). "Rooms" for different topics. Custom statuses available.

Cons: Mobile app has a while to go.

Overall: Hipchat was easy to get up and running and personalize. We have a staff of 18-21 year olds that use it and love the "hip" emojis and the ability to add emojis instead of the basic smileys.

Comments: I work for a company, and communication is indeed important. I actually work online, all the database is stored online so I thought to have a professional communication network will be essential. I concerned the situation with friends all recommended me his chat, Since the year and a half I am a devoted hip chat user. It is very cheap too only $2 a month.

Pros: easy to use. Helped my team stay connected.

Cons: None except you can't know whether the next person is online or not.

Recommendations to other buyers: If you are looking for a software for team communication this is it.
