Comments: Qlik Sense is not QlikView. For those of us who have been working with both might seem like the next iteration of the latter. It is not. It uses websockets instead of HTTP and this has a huge impact in performance and usability. The cloud solution is still a work in progress, but for the needs of most users, enough and recommendable. Disclaimer, I'm a former Qlik employee and current Qlik customer.

Pros: Proven in-memory engine and robust data extraction language. Drag and drop user interface, responsive, ready to create, not just consume, from mobile devices like tablets. Overall performance and very complete integration with web technologies. Open sourced libraries. Fine-grained user access engine.

Cons: Applications are limited to the power of one single computer, although several computers (nodes) can be clustered, they act, at the end, individually (i.e.: not adding up resources from all the servers available). As of version 3.2 lacks a full governance tool and a central library across applications, so what is created for one can be reused in another. Built-in objects are basic, leaving more advanced visualizations to extensions or development of some kind, usually far from the advanced user knowledge (e.g.: widgets).

Solid application with a good balance between features, performance and usability.

Pros: First its usability and design. Regarding the User Interface: the application is well designed and I felt like every button and function was where I would expect it to be. The program is responsive and fluid, you always know where you are and what you should do. Having said that, there is some learning curve to the many features, which are a good thing. The program is easy enough to create a histogram with a simple spreadsheet while also allowing for much more complicated statistics and good looking charts, e.g. plotting geo-data, heat-maps, box-plots and so on.
I specially like the ability to write your own aggregation functions and even more the dashboard where you can put different charts and statstics and build an interactive and dynamic kind of storyboard. The interaction works seamless. If you select (in a bar chart) a specific bar or group of bars, the other charts will automatically adjust to show just the relevant/selected data. The program does not hesitate and performs really well, even with large quantities of data. Support is also pretty solid and there is a lot of information and questions already answered on the online forums. It supports many of the standard data sources.

Cons: The aforementioned ability to write your own functions has a somewhat steep learning curve. You do have to search online for the primary functions you need (though these are well documented). Unfortunately if your data has to much variables or data points, the charts prioritize the specific variable instead of the whole diagram. What I mean by that is that you can end up with a very large horizontal chart in which you have to scroll horizontally to find the other data instead of 'cramming' all variables into the visible space. This depends on taste, but I did not find any way to change that, which brings me to the next point. The charts are somewhat 'customizable' regarding color and design. However, I've used comparable software which allows for much more flexibility in the structure and formatting of charts. A few times it can get frustrating to use the program, mainly for two reasons. 1. The aforementioned displaying of information in a non-customizable way and 2. the lack of knowledge of how the program really works that hinders you from doing exactly what you want. But of these aspects become less of a problem, the more you use the program.

Overall: An easy and intuitive way to create storyboards for everyone to understand, parting from relative large and difficult to understand and analyze data. The main benefit was a simple way to create quick charts which served as main discussion point with co-workers to make better decisions. So basically a great way to display business information.

Comments: We still use QlikView for most of our BI projects because the centralized model has merit. I would like to see a more integrated hybrid capability to support both QlikView and Qlik Sense in a dual implementation while addresses the weaker aspects of each.

Pros: Qlik Sense allows me to provide users with a library of BI objects (key indicators, trending charts, and other objects) based on a common data set. Users can choose to view simple dashboards or create complex analyses to support their own projects.

Cons: Some of the implementation and maintenance is still cumbersome, and I would prefer a greater capacity to centralize some areas of the published Qlik library in my organization.

I strongly recommend Qlik. It's been perfect.

Comments: From my experience, most of the though/completed how-to's I solved with the help of the community. Hence I strongly recommended, in any tool that you are checking validate how large and cooperative is the community.

Pros: - Rapid development and strong supportive community. - You can build a very nice dashboard and/or reports very fast. Simple reports can be built in matter of minutes! even if your data is scattered between different files or even different platforms (excels, DB, etc.). - You can extend the basic (out of the box) platform with Widgets and Extensions - 'QIik Branch' - open source community sharing Widgets and Extensions that you can embed into your installation.

Cons: - Running in memory DB is fine on the server but on the desktop edition might be a problem for large DB. - While "Associative Model" is what give Qlik the ease of rapid building dashboards and reports it might cause some odd results if you are not truly understand this and pay attention while building the data model. - While there is great training for how to use the basic features, there are not a lot for how to build Widgets and extensions.

Comments: User friendly. Can understand the relationship well only if one is proficient in sql

Pros: Powerful BI tool for building dashboards Ease of use. Develop apps just by few clicks. Automatic detect relationship among tables. The qlik engine is powerful and fast. Great Visualizations.

Cons: Qlik¿s outdated interface is mostly tab based and property based, and lacks intuitive drag and drop features. In our opinion, Qlik¿s interface is also cluttered with visualization tools the average user won¿t leverage, and tools that don¿t add value to data interpretation

Comments: If selecting a consultant, take your time to thoroughly evaluate what they each have to offer.

Pros: This product eliminates the mind-numbing work that I used to do in order to generate some of my reporting. It leads to faster response times and opens many of our workers up to being able to work on higher priority reports.

Cons: Implementing Qlik does require some coding knowledge. If you are not a coder, a consultant will likely need to be hired which results in high costs.

Comments: Qlik Sense is in its early stage of industry exposure. It's an advanced BI tool which makes everyone capable of becoming a data intelligence developer. This tool is getting better in each of its updates. This is the future of Business Intelligence.

Pros: * Simple and elegant interface, does not require much technical knowledge. * Enhanced visualisation objects. * Allows integration with all types of data sources. * Ability to migrate applications from QlikView. * Design and Security features. * Qlik sense become more and more powerful after each update.

Cons: * Visualisation objects needs to be upgraded so it can match with the predecessor's performance. * So many functionalities are not available in Qlik sense which was available in Qlik View. * Customization of visual objects are limited.

Comments: Fantastic BI Analytical Software that will help you knit your data together and discover new opportunities within your data for marketing and sales. As far as advice goes - do not underestimate how long it will take to design the interface itself once you've got all the data together.

Pros: Quick to process large data sets Easy to merge differing data sets to a single view intuitive tools to drive development Great active online forum/blogs to help the less naturally gifted It is fun to use and discover your data with

Pros: + Easy to use, + Qlik's associative data model, + Qlik Sense's user self service functionality/ self service BI

Cons: - Basic Qlik Sense is limited to a certain degree (e.g. in terms of visualization) --> there is a wide variation of extensions for nearly everything. Of course Qlik couldn't guarantee the functionality after an update. However there is already the option to pay for this service - Some basic "office" functionalities sometimes missing or too complicated integrated in Qlik (e.g. RGB code/color settings. Why not via click box in the chart?)

Comments: Qlik Sense focuses on the self-service market. It is easy to use but with limited/different functionality compared to Qlikview. Still under the hood is the same great engine with ability to process large amounts of data with great speed.

Pros: Nice visualizations. You can do ETL in the load script. You can use the Desktop version for free.

Cons: Some functionality is missing and there is no clear roadmap when it will be implemented. Less customizable compared to Qlikview.

Recommendations to other buyers: Not everything that is possible in Qlikview can be done in Qlik Sense. This is a different tool, not a replacement. Have a look at both and decide which better suits you. Both have free desktop versions.

Comments: I like Qlik Sense a lot because it has the power of the Qlikview Engine but with the possibility to start a dashboard just with a simple drag and drop for non technical users and it has a variety of charts or object out of the box that you could use to facilitate this, definetely a good self service BI tool.

Pros: Powerful for heavy backend processes or ETL in general, no matter how the data is you can always transform it to build a good data model

Cons: The canvas of work could be better, is strange at the begining on how the charts allign and change depending of the size of the object you are using, a smaller grid would be better.

Recommendations to other buyers: I enjoyed using it because of the power that it has with its Freemium version, basicaly is offering the same funcionalities than the paid version with some exeptions like sharing, server and some other of course but for a small buisness or just a personal use it's perfect.

Comments: Qlik Sense has helped us analyze hundreds of millions of lines of data quickly and efficiently, with relative ease to how we were operating previously. We are one of the rare customers that does not work with sales data, rather security services with staffing levels, compliance performance variables, service forecasting, etc. This has made it a little difficult to get help from the Qlik Community and Qlik directly as every example is geared towards financial information or selling goods. There is a distinct lack of resources out there if your company is in the same boat as us. We have had multiple staff members go through Qlik courses and we purchased the official book for Qlik Sense that was available at the time, which only covers the very basics. Once you have your data connections flowing, and you spend the time learning and experiencing the product, you will start to benefit a lot more than taking the training (my opinion). The program itself is great, and it is amazing how fast and efficiently you can zoom in and out of enormous levels of data. My example would be to see a yearly total of hours billed, then each click zooms a level --> Year, Month, Week, Day, Hour, Minute of 900 staff members punching at 25 different locations at various times of the day at a 24 hour operation, then right back out to the yearly view. There is no slow down, the transitions are almost seamless.

Pros: The quickness and ease of building tables, charts, graphs, etc. in the front end.

Cons: There is a distinct lack of technical resources when you are not dealing with sales and financial data.

Recommendations to other buyers: Ask to speak with existing customers in similar businesses, to see whether this is right for you.

Comments: After having used Qlik View for about 4 years now we are looking forward to the new possibilities that the Qlik Sense Server brings to us. With Qlik View we could take our first steps in real data analysis and we are now ready to start over with Qlik Sense very soon which will make our analysis much more interactive and collaborative.

Pros: Qlik Sense has some really nice new visualizations that we do not have in Qlik View. It further brings us the possibility to have a real self service BI environment. Qlik has a very fast product development so that we are sure that we can grow further with Qlik Sense.

Cons: If there are any cons there is no doubt that Qlik will do anything to elimnate them as quickly as possible.

Comments: I have used Qlik products already 10 years. At the beginning QlikView and now their new product QlikSense as well. When QlikView was revolutionary in the past then now the QlikSense is quite the same situation. Product have intuitive user interface and allows powerful data insights even not too experienced business user. Doing the visualizations in QlikSense is easier than even in Excel.

Pros: Easy to use. Personal Edition is free - it's good for evaluating and testing product for different areas (even for personal needs like getting overview about physical activities or personal finance etc.)

Cons: Some powerful functions are missing comparing with QlikView but fortunately the product develops so quickly that I'm not worrying about that quite much :-).

Recommendations to other buyers: At least try and evualate it yourself :-)

Comments: I've been using Qlik for a couple years now, and one thing they always seem to take in to consideration when further developing their technologies is how easy it is to use. Qlik Sense is such a powerful tool and has such great flexibility. They allow for multiple types of sources for your data. Their graph wizards make it extremely easy to get started with visualizing your data. The graphs and lists are all interactive, and help show you how all your data is related.

Pros: Easy to use Effective Community is very useful for learning more, and getting help Fast, and responsive

Cons: In the time I have used Qlik Sense, I haven't come across many things that stand out. At this time I don't have anything bad to say about their product.

Recommendations to other buyers: At the very least, download their trial and do a couple of their tutorials, or even use your own data if you think you can right off the bat. I am sure you'll be impressed with Qlik.

Pros: The product it's really easy to use and powerful. It has a lot of data connection provider (also twitter, facebook and so on), and the setup it's quick and easy.

Cons: REally nothing. the software is great. just some little bug in the earlier version, in the console management for the server version, but nothing of really important. With this great software You have fast analysis, great interactive dashboards and also cool maps. It's also cool Qlik Branch, where we've found a lot of cool extensions to use in our dashboards.

Recommendations to other buyers: Try it! Download the desktop version and use it, also with a simple excel workbook, to evaluate the power of this software!

Pros: Qlik is really a good company, in a few years thanks to an excellent work of its software optimization is gaining the leading places in the quadrant Gartner business intelligence, customer service is always available and very attentive to customer needs. Qlik Sense is a great product available in both Client version and the Server version. With this software you will be able to create very attractive dashboard and extremely powerful. Its strengths are the absolute ease of use and incredible power in the processing of data in-memory. Qlik, once imported your data, allowing you to view the data and process the data in an incredible speed, you can do extensive analysis without any performance problem, and when they have an excellent graphical interface. Very performing the totally interactive charts absolutely excellent ability to create keys and relationships automatically and autonomously.

Cons: There are a few negative points of this software, it would still improve the ability to interact and modify items within a single chart as choosing colors for some measures, for now you can only set up automatic color or monochrome. Starting to use the product the setting of the synthetic keys is not very easy to understand but once you understand the correlation mechanism they are really performing.

Recommendations to other buyers: The product is really good and efficient, always look for new updates because they are very frequent and each update provides new features very useful.

Pros: Qlik has never been a company to sit on it's hands as competitors eat up it's margins. As such, Sense is an obvious response to the simplicity and aesthetic beauty that Tableau brings to the table. Drag and drop analytics make Sense an amazing tool for power users still trying to bend Excel to their needs while providing many unique and compelling ways to share the knowledge gained. In addition to simplicity, Sense is at home in a mobile environment. Build a single application and deploy to any device with a browser, be it your laptop or iPad.

Cons: The biggest shorfall of Qlik Sense is it's age. Though well thought out, the product is still underdeveloped and can at times feel like a beta product in the hands of a more seasoned BI specialist. Simplicity often comes at the expense of customization.

Recommendations to other buyers: If you are looking to push report creation responsibilities down to the front lines, Sense is worth a look. Power users comfortable manipulating Excel work sheets or Tableau will quickly come to love Sense while your IT department maintains control over the 'one source of truth' data source. If you are looking for a mobile strategy I'd also encourage you to look more in to Sense. Careful attention to dynamic screen sizing and drag and drop analytics make it possible to do amazing things from an iPad in front of a customer. Sense is not a BI product to replace QlikView or Cognos. Instead, it is an amazing product to safely get your data in to the hands of people who would have never known what to do with it before Sense.

Pros: Qlik Sense is a self-service analytical tool based on the same in-memory technology as QlikView. It's associative engine allows for snappy selections, filtering and prompt re-calculation of all charts and aggregations on the fly as the user navigates throughout the dashboard, even on datasets of over 100 million rows. Qlik Sense focuses more on the self-service aspects of BI, where users are encouraged to build their own Adhoc visualisations without the use of keyboards simply by drag & dropping various elements, making the technology utmost business friendly. Also, as the whole technology is fully web-based, it embeds the latest visualisation libraries (D3, Raphael etc.) and allows for a seamless integration of customised extended JS charts (so-called extensions). The latter enables for unlimited possibilities when it comes to visualisations (http://d3js.org/) and further integration with web-services (R servers, real-time analytics, Hadoop etc.). Also, the Qlik Sense Server deployment is tailored to facilitate a multi-node deployment, allowing for a very scalable enterprise solution, even cloud-based. The data security technology (Section Access) is the same one as in QlikView and is customisable, secure and robust. All in all, when it comes to deploying a scalable and business-friendly BI solution, which has very presentable dashboards, a fast and robust aggregation engine with extended self-service capabilities, Qlik Sense is currently the best product of its kind on the market.

Cons: Qlik Sense is still a new product and not very mature yet, as it has only been released a year and a half ago. The review is based on Qlik Sens version 2.1 which is important to emphasise, because QlikTech is constantly updating the software and publishing releases with enhancements and bugfixes. Qlik Sense is not the right tool, if you requirement is: 1. To have a guided analytics dashboard, where the user is constraint in the way he views his data. -> This can be overcome by creating mashup websites, however you will need a web developer to do this. 2. Standardised reporting via Qlik Sense and production of pdf files is not possible (yet). -> An integration with nPrinting, QlikTech's latest acquisition, could change this and it's on Qlik's roadmap for the next year. 3. Your BI solution needs to accommodate flexible data extraction capabilities (e.g. to Excel). General current disadvantages: 1. The story telling functionality is not mature yet - users have more benefit using PowerPoint directly. In my opinion it's missing a live connection of the snapshots used in the story to the underlying chart objects. 2. Security settings (NOT on data level) are governed centrally via the management console and are complicated to comprehend. 3. No guided analytics aspects, even navigation between sheets can't be controlled. 4. No supported data extraction capabilities. It's almost impossible to get comprehensive extract of it's underlying data, something that was possible with QlikView (Export functionality e.g.) 5. The vendor has little practical knowledge on how Qlik Sense is deployed enterprise wide within a business and is not really able to support. 6. The vendor is focusing more on the data story telling and collaboration aspects of the Qlik technologies and almost imposes those on the business. Personally, I would prefer if QlikTech listened to its customers a little bit more.

Recommendations to other buyers: If you need to do aggregations on the fly (Rankings, Ratios e.g.) in your dashboards on a large amount of data, Qlik is your only option. The technology used in Qlik Sense is very advanced (better than Tableau in my opinion) but not mature yet. Do not use Qlik Sense if your prime requirement is to create standardised reports and to have a platform where users can extract data to use in Excel. Qlik Sense is enterprise ready and very compatible with cloud deployments. Installation is extremely easy. Architecture of security settings requires a bit of a learning curve. If you plan to incorporate your own bespoke and customised visualisations and extensions, hiring an JavaScript developer is highly recommended.

Very satisfied with the product.

Pros: Qlik is an excellent analytical program that truly helps business users make better use of their data with visuall appealing chart objects and easy-to-use selections and drill down techniques.

Cons: If there could be any improvements to be made, it would be to have the ability to resize the designing area (to make the size of the design grid smaller or larger depending on need).

Recommendations to other buyers: Recognize the ease of mobility this product offers, the option to design and create in both the back and front end of the application--making it applicable to all types of users as well as the security settings available in Qlik Sense Enterprise.
