### "CMS is Great for Website Design"

June 14, 2023

4.0

Pros

Very easy to teach someone to use it. You don't have to be a coder to make small changes in the system. Yes you need to be to redeisgn and create pages from scratch but for minor text edits and photo swaps - super easy to use.

Cons

Search function could use a little revamping. I'd like more ways to filter the content that has been searched.

### "Would have been fantastic 10 years ago"

September 19, 2016

3.0

First off, there are two sides to Cascade, the side which the 'admin' sets up and the side where other content entry admins use. Setting up Cascade for your typical developer is no real treat. You must work with either XSLT or Velocity to transform the generated XML into pages. You have to be incredibly structured on how to use this platform. To do any kind of "serverside" logic, you must use indexes which bog down the system. At Hannon Hill conferences, the staff have implied the system is meant to be used to create micro-sites versus large sites (the way my institution uses it) If this system was shown to me 10 years ago, I'd have been impressed, but now it largely trails behind other platforms, especially given its a push platform. I do know Cascade 8 will be launched at some point, but it is more of a UI overhaul than anything.

Pros

I suppose, if there is a pro, it is that since it is a publish platform, if the platform dies , your sites will remain up. The interface builder is fairly easy to use, but the coding and indexing is a nuissance

Cons

\-It is a publish platform -In order to set it up you require a skilled developer -Once setup there are still limitations as there isn't really server side logic -not well known so good luck finding a skilled developer -The data is trapped in Cascade once it is in there -Runs on TomCat and crashes occaisionally

### "New Version, New Life for Hannon Hill's CMS"

February 27, 2019

4.0

My user experience is on a college campus where I manage content/layout for several sections of the site. That responsibility used to be cumbersome because of the navigational drawbacks of the system, but it's a breeze to make updates now. I cannot speak to the technical set-up since I am not in IT, but as an end user I don't have any complaints.

Pros

The latest version of Hannon Hill's CMS (8) is a VAST improvement over the previous (7)! More intuitive. Fewer clicks. Looks like it was designed within the last 15 years at least. Lots of new features, i.e. sidebars, call out boxes, relevant links. End users without any html skills or much training at all are now able to manage their content. A concrete example: in the previous version, one needed to know how to manipulate the html in order to insert an image, but anyone can do it now and the visual impact on our site has been dramatic.

Cons

I feel neutral about recommending the software to others because of my own limited experience and because, despite the fantastic improvements, it is built on technology that is rapidly going extinct. I'm not sure if other institutions would be wise to invest in this product for the long term--especially if they are committed to staying on the cutting edge and having a super modern site.

### "User review"

June 22, 2023

4.0

Pros

As a user, it's easy to quickly edit and publish web pages. My most used feature relates to fixing accessibility issues. Establishing the "deeplinking" functionality by adding a line of metadata to our template files was straightforward. It saves a great deal of time by providing the ability to jump from a flagged item to the correct page in cascade.

Cons

In the Site Content panel, there is a motion when a page is clicked that is not ideal. This motion jumps up the list, then fans through the files. It's an aesthetic thing, that doesn't turn off. Turning browser reduce motion on doesn't turn it off. When a specific task requires going through many pages, it can really hinder speed, even though it's a seemingly minor issue.

### "Cascade CMS"

June 22, 2023

4.0

Pros

Cascade has easy to use integration that allows us to easily bring in third party widgets. It also has excellent backlogging and archiving.

Cons

The UI could use some work and the search function is often useless. For a site with thousands of pages, it can be a pain to hunt down a specific one.

### "Would not use this if our company didn't have it as an option "

May 9, 2024

3.0

Pros

The organizational features are nice, but there isn't a lot that I like about this program. Having layouts premade is nice, but being able to adjust them is a nightmare

Cons

The disconnect between when you are editing your page and the content on it versus what it looks like - I am never happy with. I would prefer to be able to use HTML and create the look I am going for versus dealing with their editor

### "Ray's review of Cascade CMS"

October 2, 2019

5.0

I regularly train staff to use Cascade and support them when then need the fancy stuff.

Pros

I really appreciate the way it helps you save time in locating recently used assets.

Cons

I wish it was easier to track external links, though I understand that's coming soon.
