The tools in airtable have helped with productivity and also allowed me to share the data from my outreach quickly with other departments. Pros I use airtable in both gathering information from staff and the public, in a variety of ways. I am responsible for the accounting process in our department of 14 and we use airtable as way to record all expenditures, track different account purchases, as well as balance my monthly credit cards for the business office. I also manage tours and a speakers program and am able to streamline the request, scheduling and communication both in house and with the public in a organized and branded way. Cons If you have alot of individual spreadsheets on Airtable (which we do) you can easily get lost in it all. It has a great interface and is very easy to use. I also like how customizable it is- you can really make it your own. Cons I don't really have any complaints about Airtable. I think it's a great software overall maybe if we could have more colors to choose from for customization that would be awesome. Also, would love some cool airable tips and tricks by the brand. I love the relational structures that can be built and the customization options. Pros Airtable is endlessly flexible. Being able to make custom fields, define different views, and sort/filter on anything means that Airtable can manage anything from project tasks to granular content management. Cons I don't really dislike anything about Airtable. If I had to choose something, I would say that there are a lot of features that go unused and that can be a bit confusing. It's a pleasure to work with and we discover new use cases frequently. It's like a spreadsheet on steroids... Pros \- The ability to create various views - Import images or audio files to the database - Grouping records - Filtering records - Adding formulas to columns - The blocks functionality which allows you to do things like create reporting Cons \- Upgrading your account only applies to one workspace - This means you can't use workspaces to organize your databases if you're using premium features in it. - All databases with premium features have to exist in the same workspace and there are no folders to organize them. I have found it to be intuitive to use and flexible in its application. I first got introduced to Airtable when looking for a database for a large volunteer project in Honduras. There were hundreds of items we needed to track. When we began looking for a database product, all of the records were kept in binders. This didn’t allow for much analysis and was liable to end in catastrophic loss of data. As I looked for products online, I tried a few free services but they were either too technical for the application or fell short when applied to a shared, international database. Airtable turned out to be the perfect solution. The service is incredibly affordable, even for a nonprofit working in Honduras. In addition, it is easily scaled. As we continued to add data, we were able to upgrade our plan as needed with no pause in service thanks to their grace period. A few things that I think set Airtable apart. The interface is easy to use and for someone who was used to living in the world of excel and access very intuitive. My biggest concern, when looking for a product, was finding something other staff and volunteers would be able to use without having to train them on database management. The ability to quickly build and share forms was perfect. After setting up the back end, I was able to build a few forms and from there it was easy to control access to the database and allow for error free entry. I literally try to replace as many tools as I can with Airtable because it is so flexible. Using it as the core for client and customer reports is fun and feels like a stable solution. I love it. Pros Airtable is a tool that can probably be useful in almost any business, even if you don't know it yet. The ability to create custom tables and databases, and to be able to link data across tables, create tons of custom fields, custom sorting, and loads more, really makes Airtable shine. Other tools have come along that do a decent job, but none can match Airtable yet. Airtable takes the concept of lists and spreadsheets and lets you create intricate infrastructures for your data. You can customize your own project management table, manage products, sync with external services, and so much more! Cons I do wish they would do a better job of showing you how to integrate various data together. Part of the problem is that Airtable is so powerful that they can't cover every area with their tutorials. But I found that linking data and tables and cells together was a little confusing at first, and since that's where the real power of Airtable is, it would be nice to get a better understanding of it up front. You can create fields with checkboxes, dates or dropdowns as you need to really create what you want from the program. Cons Some of the cool benefits are only available at a price level that is too high for our current budget. It's Excel on crack!" June 6, 2018 5.0 Trackability, structure, detailed and flexible workflows, team accountability, detailed overviews, really cool metrics that are already 'added in'. Overall, our company is in much better shape after adding this tool to our arsenal. Just a great addition, period. Pros It seamlessly tracks all of our client records. It allows us to have a beautiful layout that anyone can follow. The filtering capabilities and various views really help move clients from one stage to the next. However, we use this platform for so many other areas of our business like project management, income/expenses, inventory management, etc. It's really cool, most of my contractors are converting to Airtable from Excel after viewing our workflows. Wish we got paid for this! :( Cons There are some features that could be easier to use. And some that Airtable just doesn't have. The one that stinks the most is not being able to merge records. And to be honest, some of the things we'd like to do is a bit complex. Therefore, just like Excel, a technician may be required for customization. You can't have it all, right? I love the base templates. I'm really into the functionality and ease of use. The Google Drive integration rocks. I love spreadsheets but my skills in creating databases have decreased over the years and I never loved Access, to be honest. With Airtable, I literally feel like if I dream it, it IS possible!!! Real time editing for your teams, sharing, uploading photos/content for social media. That doesn't even touch the tip of how I use this product! Cons The only con I can think of and I have reached out to the dev team to give my two cents...is that I wish the calendar view showed weekly and also a yearly view while also keeping the monthly and 2 week view options. Hopefully they'll get there! It would also be great to be able to have the first column of the base color coded if you so desired (this ties into the calendar view for me). So you would be able to do a sort by date, then see the color coding on the calendar for easy high level views. These projects have tons of moving parts, and Airtable makes it easy for our team to track everything. I like that you can be super flexible with how you setup your tracking templates. A lot like creating your own spreadsheet from scratch, but you can tag team members when its their turn move a project forward. Helps get us all on the same page. Cons Because you can super custom setting up your own template, you should be careful not to over complicate or simplify it. The one my co-worker setup is a little complicated in my opinion. Our team members were able to total their results by property or by the type of media purchased. Pros Airtable has made tracking and planning much easier for our marketing department. We use the tool to allocate funds or bandwith - and to track results across projects. Cons The cost of enterprise airtable was not viable for our marketing department. Pros I like that Airtable allowed for a customizable webpage that allowed registrants to make online payments, as that can be difficult in the non-profit world. Cons Unfortunately, I find that Airtable has quite a few cons. My main concern with Airtable is that I do not find it to be user friendly. The platform itself feels quite outdated and the system could really use some more modernized updates. Additionally, I find that it can be difficult to make changes once the event has been published. For example, the last event I utilized Airtable for, we had to change the date in which tickets could be sold through and it took many tries to get it to adequately change and even upon change it was still not appearing correct for some of the guests of the site. It's so easy to organize anything from the smallest of tasks to the largest with Airtable Pros I wanted to get away from the spreadsheets and get the functionality of a database without the hassle of microsoft. Airtable lets me organize just about ANYTHING in the most logical and simple of ways. I can't say enough about how much I love this platform and how much time it's helped me save.
