If this tool is made affordable, It could potentially dominate the market. Pros Maya hits its peak when it comes to 3D modeling. I used it to realize a 3D animation about the AFCON events in 2022. The animation was about a discussion between Alexandre Song and Aboubakar Vincent. What really amazed me was how performant and realistic the characters were - I designed every single object in the video from particles, dust, football field, birds in the sky, and streets to the main characters.Everything seemed to be real and professional and I got to set different angles for the camera in order to produce realistic effects just like when two people are interviewed on TV at the same time.This made me conclude that Maya could help me produce a piece that was supposed to be done by two or more producers faster and even better.- I like it because it's so powerful and provides extensive functionalities to automate workflows. Cons A major reason why I switched from using Maya is because the software is expensive - for a freelancer, paying over $1000+ is not a joke, it's super huge.- It can also be challenging when you're just getting started. Modo and Blender are at the cutting edge of software for modeling, but maya has advantages in Animation. Pros The main selling point of Maya, at this point, is its status as an industry standard. Working in Maya allows for ease of transfer between organizations as most make use of it. Cons Autodesk fails to provide a modeling suite centered on speed and is slow to adopt advances made by other leading modeling suites, such as rounded edge shaders for normal baking. It has it's kinks and there's certainly a learning curve, but I feel like everything is reasonably placed and if you give it enough time you can figure most of things on your own. Crashes can be frequent but the autosave features/crash saves are pretty good at preventing work loss. Pros It's the tried and true go-to software for all things animation. You can do from box modelling, to rigging, to animation and then shading/rendering. It's a complete package and a pretty complete tool. Cons The subscription plans are too expensive. Not much to do if you're just setting up a studio. I don't think the program does enough to offer an advantage other than it's the industry standard, which is why it's losing ground to others like Blender rather quickly. It can get overwhelming how dense Maya is and at times can be difficult to use. Overall it definitely is a premium tool with a premium price but can very well be worth it. Pros Maya is a really powerful 3D design software that is filled with loads of features to handle all needs. The presets it comes with speeds up design time by a lot and I am able to finish projects faster. I make use of Maya a lot for animation as I feel the animator and animation tools are very versatile and powerful, perfect for complex character animations. Cons While it's a pro that Maya has so many features, it's a con that it is very difficult to learn how to use all of these features. After using Maya for so long I still haven't fully figured it out. Maya can also be pretty expensive. Rendering takes long with complex models.
