### "STACK is open-source software used for creating online assessments in mathematics, science, etc."

February 24, 2023

4.0

he STACK software is highly regarded for its ability to handle various mathematical expressions and provide immediate feedback to students. Its randomized question generation and compatibility with popular learning management systems are also well-received. However, some users have found the software to have a difficult learning curve and challenging setup and customization. Nonetheless, despite these potential drawbacks, the STACK software is widely recognized as a valuable tool for both educators and students in creating and grading math assessments.

Pros

STACK software has several strengths, including its ability to handle various mathematical expressions and offer randomized questions and answers. It also provides immediate feedback to students, which is crucial for them to comprehend their errors and enhance their comprehension of the subject. Furthermore, its open-source nature and compatibility with popular learning management systems make it a practical tool for educators to use when creating assessments.

Cons

the STACK software has been identified as having some potential drawbacks or limitations. These may include a difficult setup process and customization, as well as compatibility issues with certain web browsers and operating systems. However, the STACK team typically responds to user feedback and provides updates and support to address these issues.

### "Great software for complete project estimating."

July 25, 2023

4.0

The best and single most important is being able to show your work to build faith in your numbers.

Pros

The fact that the takeoff and estimating software is all in one. The automatic pricing allows you to quickly get accurate data that can be customized. The software gives construction professionals the option to be as transparent as they want to be with their data. Clients of mine have won many projects that they weren't the lowest bid, because their customers can see exactly what is included. This gives people faith that they are working with honest contractors that will not change order them by bidding low just to secure the work.

Cons

The BNI features that were included in the upgraded price do not reflect what was advertised by the sales staff when purchasing the software. Needs a lot of work especially in the assembly area.

### "Unethical and lost alot of bid information. "

December 20, 2024

1.0

Very poor. Not a trustworthy company. Very crooked.

Pros

Easy to use. Support is knowledgeable and not a call center.

Cons

Jacked the price up 50% after the first year. Then when we decided to go to another program and cancel our subscription Stack locked us out of all our estimates and held it for ransom. Very un-ethical. Not a reputable company.

### "Very Streamlined, Simple Estimating Utility"

October 18, 2021

5.0

Stack is the customer service I measure all other customer service by. They are friendly, nice and helpful! They are super easy to reach as well from right inside Stack! They don't always have the answers, but if they can find them they will! Their knowledge database in stack is also pretty extensive so it's easy to find most of your easier answers in there yourself.

Pros

Stack is, hands down, one of the simplest solutions I've found for doing takeoffs. Depending on the industry, it's possible it may be too simple, however for the purposes of drywall and paint it is perfect. Building assemblies in Stack really streamlines the whole takeoff process, saving a lot of time and headache when it comes down to the little details. It's also super easy to learn due to how uncomplicated Stack's tool and interface are. You can make things much more complicated for more detailed accuracy, but you don't have to.

Cons

I'd like a few more options when it comes to proposal generation, but this is still a fairly new feature within Stack. Being able to fine tune the formatting would be helpful.

### "Time Saver"

July 21, 2023

5.0

Pros

STACK essentially eliminated a step in my takeoff and pricing process. Having a takeoff software with a well-integrated "spread sheet" has drastically reduced the time needed for bidding. STACK seems to truly value customer feedback, and routinely releases new features. I was able to build out a completely custom library of items and assemblies within the first week of use, and have been quite satisfied with the takeoff process ever since.

Cons

There is still room for improvement:Once items or assemblies are created, there is no ability to move them to a new location. I currently use the "linear with drop" takeoff as a means to count corners/miters for linear foot takeoffs, which is not it's intended use. I have to enter a "drop length" every time, which is not applicable for these takeoffs. A "linear with point count" takeoff would be great.

Switched from

[PlanSwift](https://www.capterra.com/p/70808/PlanSwift/)

The takeoff side of Planswift worked just fine, but the estimating portion was terrible. I would put my takeoff numbers on paper, then enter them into my custom Excel spreadsheet. It just took way too much time.

### "Reality vs Perception & Potential"

April 14, 2022

3.0

Not any of our problems yet. Not any reason we bought it, has it created a solution for, but I still see how it can and hopefully will over time, and that is why I am still here. Well that and probably because I don't want to admit that maybe we should have waited till they had a finished product with the kinks worked out. while this may cause eye rolls... Put yourselves in our shoes. If a customer purchases up front, 100% of a roof from me because I showed them a picture of a finished roof and told them it was a complete ready to go finished roof, yet only put on 50-75% of it and then said well I will be back next year to finish the rest, sorry about the inconvenience in the mean time. Would that be ethical? No! It would not, yet that is exactly what stack ct did to us and that is what iroof did to us, and that is what roofsnap did to us, and that is what adobe does to us, and, and ,and, and it is wrong. These are not the things employees doing the work decide, it is the work of those in charge and investors. So I don't and won't blame the workers, but I do blame the rest of you. Please consider what I have taken the time to share and please be motivated intrinsically to do better!

Pros

I liked the super awesome sales and teaching staff when they can be reached. the support staff excluding 1 that are available and pretty much only by email do not in any way provide the same level of connection, community, support, or personal touch the others do.

Cons

Since all the soft ware companies we reviewed over the last year follow the same pattern of, promise the moon before we buy, show us what it will look like when its finished, but cannot deliver what they promised when they were courting us, because they sell an incomplete project knowing we roped in for a year, it must be ok right? NO! IT'S NOT OK! I had to promise a kidney to get the \[SENSITIVE CONTENT\] to purchase this product, I showed the perceived time savings, the better product, and etc. Yet when we bought it I was able to show him anything but a prettier product. Do I think we will get there and do I think its a good program? Yes and Yes but it may be as much because I want to believe it is without the actual proof there to definitely say it is. I just hope I can Convince him to let me renew the subscription next year cause it is going to take me all of a year to learn this system well enough to make it pay. Between how much slower i am at turning out these estimates even though they are better, and how many important and promised functions are either not actually functional or they are at not user friendly without 1 on1 help if they are functional etc.

### "Cloud Takeoff"

September 18, 2020

5.0

Stack was a significant upgrade to our takeoff process. The speed and being able to natively use it on Mac make this software great. The development team continues to add great features, some of which bring feature parity with competitors, but others are unique and now classified as "can't live without" around our office.

Pros

The ability to log in and pull up all of our project drawings on any computer. The fact that this software is web based is great and makes this platform agnostic. As we are primarily a Mac based office, this is great and does not require virtualization to run windows based software. Stack is also incredibly fast to navigate and bring up projects. Even though our older software was on computer and not web based, it required long waits to open a project and switch between projects. With stack this is almost instantaneous and it allows multiple projects to be open at once in multiple tabs or windows.

Cons

It still lacks some functionality of our previous takeoff software, especially when we first started using it. Much of that functionality has been added since we started using it, and there are a few additional items they currently show as in the pipeline. Once those are released, all of the features we need will be here.

### "Wonderful Product"

July 27, 2023

4.0

The sales, onboarding, and customer support teams have always been exceptional.

Pros

Cloud-based estimating is very efficient, particularly with remote employees. Despite the fact that our previous software was linked to a cloud-based drive, it just didn't have the same speed and agility that a true web-based program has. The learning curve was pretty easy. I love that suggestions are taken right through the program and are seriously considered in future updates. It's nice to see the improvements that Stack is working on.

Cons

My biggest issue is that sometimes it can run a bit sluggish when working with huge document sets. This is a dream, but I wish somehow there could be an "off-line" mode that downloads then uploads the data to enable working from areas with no internet (project sites, airplanes, meetings, etc.).

Wanted a cloud-based estimating suite. Planswift was also feeling very out-dated and we were struggling with document management within their infrastructure.

### "Streamline our Estimating"

October 7, 2021

5.0

I have zero complaints with the program or customer service.

Pros

As a fire protection estimator it is hard to find a program that allows me to do a design build electronically. I could use a Autocad style program to do the base design, but in our world of fast paced turnaround I simply do not have the time to use a program like Autocad. With StackCT I can use the linear drop function to place our sprinkler heads with proper spacing.

Cons

The autocount symbol function is good, but there are times when I get only a single count instead of hundreds needed. It has gotten better, but if there was a way to edit the background noise for the selection it would be nearly perfect.

### "Stack is the best estimating software"

July 21, 2023

5.0

I am not an estimator but was a Project Manager and the way I could get exactly what I needed from Stack and even being able to convert data into a CSV was amazing. I wish when I was interviewing an estimator they came across this system because it does take a little bit of transitioning from such a robust software they previously used to our easy system.

Pros

Simplicity yet so much can come from it. There's endless videos on how to use. Building assemblies is such an easy thing to do. Collaboration is also done and you are able to track time spent on each estimate and job cost. Love how great the style is and the way it is kept easy and simple to navigate. Nothing robust.

Cons

Not a lot of people are aware of stack or believe stack is overpriced. Making this system known to others would be great so that whoever we employ already has Stack knowledge.

10/10, all of my users love it and all of our PMs say it's the best takeoff tool thus far in their careers. Even the more seasoned ones.

Cons

### "From a 'count' only estimating company......"

October 21, 2021

4.0

The power of cloud-based software is amazing, a definite game-changer for us. The product has many pro's with just as many could have's. Still using our old software on occasions where we need to price several options, change the structure of the proposal or offer breakup costs.

Pros

Takeoffs are quick, assemblies are easy to put together, it's very quick and easy to change what items and assemblies in a count. The main advantage for us is that we can have multiple people using the software at once.

Cons

Features I'd like to see are: -adding assemblies to an assembly 'item group' -simplify the process of creating an item>creating an assembly>creating a count takeoff -customized icons for takeoff counts -ability to lock (tick box) pricing in a proposal. once locked a new revision will be made if any variations are added -ability to copy a project and make several versions of it, so the older revisions are superseded but still available for reflection -ability to change pricing at the Estimate page for that specific project, without changing global pricing stack-wide -ability to download proposals in more than .pdf. Eg word, excel -ability to manage projects a little better. lots of unused space on the Projects screen. On the left you should have folders that organise my projects into 'Bidding, Bid submitted, Won, Lost etc'

### "We love it"

July 21, 2023

4.0

Pros

The fact that it is all online and our ops guys can see the plans at the jobsite from their phone.

Cons

I love using your software but there are 2 things that I would like for you to improve.Sometimes I upload multiple pages for a project. When I am working on the takeoff you can see On the left the plans that you are working on listed on listed by plan name . It would be nice to be able to go to the pages that you are working on by simply clicking on the page name that is listed on the left side.Slope factorIts great that we are able to measure the basic slope by using the built in slope factor calculator. But that is only helpful for measuring the basic slope of the roof area and the rake and sidewall. But it would be great if you can add the valley and hip factor as well. It is hard to get the exact measurement without that because the hip / valley slope factor is different than the basic slope of the roof. Please see the link below that will explain what I am talking about in regards to the hip and valley. \[sensitive content hidden\]

### "Great Product"

July 21, 2023

5.0

It has drastically reduced my time in generating estimates. All my projects are online through the software, so I can go back years and easily see my takeoffs/measurements and plans. I have also been able to catch errors from subcontractors by checking their measurements through the software. It has made for more accurate estimates, reduced time in generating estimates, and easu project file management.

Pros

It's easy to figure quantities. Very similar to AutoCAD with layers and calculating areas, volumes, lengths, etc. I frequently take screen shots of my measurements to give to the foreman to see how I've calculated materials.

Cons

I come from an AutoCAD background in landscape architecture, so I wish it had more drafting features, i.e. offess, align, midpoint, etc. My company installs a lot artificial turf and I have to configure the layout. Having more drafting options would really help with the takeoffs. It's great for measuring areas, but configuring layout from a landscape architect's drawing can be cumbersome.

### "You get what you pay for: clean, sleek and useful platform"

October 19, 2021

5.0

I have enjoyed the customer service experience, the frequency with which the platform is often updated. The design is modern, surface is easy to use, very user friendly and not technical at all. After a few hours you can easily learn all the software has to offer.

Pros

The software is easy to get used to, and after a few hours of clicking around one can easily (without further support) learn all the features and how to work them. There are more features that just take-off measuring which is awesome for customers who can take advantage of it. We have other ways to get our estimates sent out but for those contractors who want a unified platform they do a great job.

Cons

The price is a little steep, but we have not found another software that is as easy to use and reliable as stack, so we are okay with paying the price. If their prices keep increasing at each renewal however, we might no longer be able to afford it as a small business.

### "Stack - Great buy and an affordable price"

October 7, 2021

5.0

I have very much enjoyed using Stack. I have mentioned it to other companies that we work with and I speak extremely high of it. It has increased our efficiency as a business and has helped to bring us into the 21st century.

Pros

This product is extremely easy to use. We want from pencil and paper to entirely on Stack in less than a month. It is easy to learn and well organized. The plans/ takeoff tabs are extremely straightforward and highly effective. They are also constantly updating the software and listening to recommendations.

Cons

There are some features in the reports / estimates sections that can be overwhelming but Stack has been updating and changing them constantly to make them easier to use and more efficient. I would like it for the prices in the reports / estimates to stay constant when broken down since in the subsection reports the prices are rounded up in each individual room however in the unit costs they are rounded up from a total amount in the job.

Reason for choosing STACK

I don't recall any of the other products. I chose Stack because of the cost and the high reviews I saw online. Once I started my trial and got a chance to work with their awesome team in my tutorial I knew I had made the right purchase.

Honestly a learning experience is the best I grt now,

Pros

Just Inputting and using program to enter ships and drawings of ships in for each class of ship we are working on. once more jobs are entered would like to end up witha square foot to S data base so in futur we can ask how many sqare foot pf bilge in the AMR on a WMSL Class ship and wbhat did we charge as an average for painting by square foot. Now have Started to measure 2s square footage but have not seen or understand hoe to correlate that to job. Much less how to enter it and pull it out to make a bid I supose that will come in time. First we are verifying what we have and then there will be more data base building from old and new bids as we go , including machinery and equipment needs to use and the material required. The we should be able ask " the customer want us to paint the forward bulkead in the bosn locke dark ble using xxx paint prepared to SSPC SP10 what will the cost be for bid... hpw much profit can we make and also what is the average marie rate for that.

### "Great overall with small drawbacks for General Contractors"

July 31, 2023

4.0

We are able to perform takeoff and develop material order sheets for self performed scopes of work using Stack. We are also able to verify subcontractor quantities for materials quoted/proposed to verify compliance with contract design documents.

Pros

The ability to create customize items and assemblies is essential for various trades. Accurate takeoffs and the ability to verify scales on screen is essential for accurate takeoffs. Stack does both of these well.

Cons

The lack of ability to export overlays of comparisons between different revisions of the same sheet is unfortunate. Takeoffs can be transferred from one sheet to another, but different versions of sheets cannot be excluded from overall takeoff without tedious renaming of each takeoff on sheet versions. i.e. - Bid set versus permit set; the ability to compare bid quantity and cost to final quantity and cost is not possible without creating separate projects for each or deleting the initial takeoff from the bid set. If both remain in project, quantities are cumulative and are included in the final report.

Stack is customizable and formatted to provide a professional image with as much or as little detail as is needed.

Cons

Just didn't have project management implemented yet.

Reason for choosing STACK

Cost.

### "Darn near perfect."

4.0

Having used Stack for the better part of two years, I can say it has greatly improved our takeoff speed and provided the ability to accomplish several time consuming tasks quickly. Stack features allow me to achieve a great degree of accuracy, and they seem to constantly improve the product with new tools like the snap feature. In the future we look forward to deploying Stack to an even greater extent to win more work, and generate more revenue!

Pros

First and foremost, I enjoy the takeoff speed and accuracy Stack affords our estimating department. Simply by clicking a link on a plan exchange site, or quickly uploading plans, we can begin a highly detailed accurate takeoff in minutes if not seconds. Likewise, we can complete our takeoff much faster than traditional methods saving valuable time to analyze our bids post takeoff.

Cons

Like any good cost hawk, I would highlight price as my least favorite aspect of Stack Software; though I will say the product represents good value for the price! I would like to see Stack offer the complete product in one package, without the present tiered pricing.
