I have mentioned it to other companies that we work with and I speak extremely high of it. It has increased our efficiency as a business and has helped to bring us into the 21st century. Pros This product is extremely easy to use. We want from pencil and paper to entirely on in less than a month. It is easy to learn and well organized. The plans/ takeoff tabs are extremely straightforward and highly effective. They are also constantly updating the software and listening to recommendations. Cons There are some features in the reports / estimates sections that can be overwhelming but has been updating and changing them constantly to make them easier to use and more efficient. I would like it for the prices in the reports / estimates to stay constant when broken down since in the subsection reports the prices are rounded up in each individual room however in the unit costs they are rounded up from a total amount in the job. Reason for choosing STACK I don't recall any of the other products. I chose because of the cost and the high reviews I saw online. Everything is clearly labeled and easy to access. Cons seems to be a little out dated as far as how it operates. It seems like more features could be automated. Something has to give in the estimating software area. Has to be made easier. You have to be able to change pricing and add materials easier as you are working on your bid. there are times you forget things that you have to add later. As contractors we need to be able to set our profit and loss. Not have percentages pre-filled into Stacks estimating sheets. Pros I think the estimating program as far as taking off in general is as easy as it gets. But when you get you your estimating software that's where the problems begin. Cons The estimating sheets do not let you change pricing easily unless you have all that set up in your costs already and metal is changing so rapidly as an estimator you need to be able to change numbers on your take-off sheet as you are working on it. Also the cost calculator worked just fine until recently. Now i can't even send excel sheets to the calculator because they don't work. A month ago everything was fine. Pros Ease of use of take off feature. We use solely for taking off jobs. Cons Not user friendly on cell phone. Wish there was an app so I could look up take off quantities and take something off in the field on my phone. Also, I wish the estimating feature was easier to use. Now have Started to measure 2s square footage but have not seen or understand hoe to correlate that to job. Much less how to enter it and pull it out to make a bid I supose that will come in time. First we are verifying what we have and then there will be more data base building from old and new bids as we go , including machinery and equipment needs to use and the material required. The we should be able ask " the customer want us to paint the forward bulkead in the bosn locke dark ble using xxx paint prepared to SSPC SP10 what will the cost be for bid... hpw much profit can we make and also what is the average marie rate for that. Estimator Construction Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "Great Option for Takeoff Software" May 9, 2022 5.0 is a great solution for takeoffs - I previously used On Screen Takeoff which I really enjoyed using, but STACK offers a better user experience in my opinion. I am overall pleased with how the software works. Pros Takeoff is very easy to use, Assemblies feature is amazing and saves so much time once it is setup. I appreciate that the system is cloud based, this really makes things run much more smoothly and easily. Integrations with Dropbox and Google Drive are also helpful. Cons Organization of takeoffs could be improved. There is no undo button which sounds minimal but it can be extremely cumbersome at times. I also dislike that measurements can't be set to round to the nearest whole number - who honestly needs to measure down to a tenth of an inch shown in decimal format? These are really minor things in the overall user experience but annoying nonetheless. Overall I am very happy with over alternative options for takeoff software. Estimator Construction Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "Great overall with small drawbacks for General Contractors" July 31, 2023 4.0 We are able to perform takeoff and develop material order sheets for self performed scopes of work using . We are also able to verify subcontractor quantities for materials quoted/proposed to verify compliance with contract design documents. Pros The ability to create customize items and assemblies is essential for various trades. Accurate takeoffs and the ability to verify scales on screen is essential for accurate takeoffs. does both of these well. Cons The lack of ability to export overlays of comparisons between different revisions of the same sheet is unfortunate. Takeoffs can be transferred from one sheet to another, but different versions of sheets cannot be excluded from overall takeoff without tedious renaming of each takeoff on sheet versions. i.e. - Bid set versus permit set; the ability to compare bid quantity and cost to final quantity and cost is not possible without creating separate projects for each or deleting the initial takeoff from the bid set. I especially enjoy the layover feature for change orders. Enjoy having the ability to have multiple screens open for the same project to look at details. I enjoy being able to provide the cost breakdown and manipulate the reporting data as needed. We are able to provide a cost breakdown to accounting for job costing purposes. Being cloud based has also solved storage and backup issues on our local machines. Cons Do not like that you can not alter an assembly without it changing that assembly on all of your takeoffs. October 12, 2021 4.0 We are currently seeing a 15-20% time savings on this new platform. The user interface allows us to onboard new staff much quirker. Pros OCR regonition makes searching drawings for keywords a breeze. Custom variables within the estimate module simplifies building an estimate. Cons The team continually publishes important Stack Updates monthly; many of the cons I've seen over the last year have been resolved. With that said the lack of an UNDO function is a continual annoyance (I am told this fix is on the roadmap). Pros The best feature for estimating is the TakeOff feature. It allows for a smooth transition from taking a set of plans off to producing an estimate. Cons There is really only one thing. I wish there was a way to create a folder on the TakeOff page which allowed me to group each category of takeoff. We want to export this into a format our contractors can read, understand and also edit (changing unit pricing eg in excel). The speed, accessibility, and thus far great capacity at handling large plans is awesome. Cons Still waiting on some changes for the cost proposal functions, being able to customize those more would really take this program to the next level, and help us integrate our partners onto the platform. Items such as being able to adjust tax layout, relabel non-measured costs, have items with costs saved under non measured costs, tax rate displayed on the quote for the customer instead of needing to manually enter this every time, and a more user friendly approach to being able to display different currencies would be very appreciated. January 20, 2017 4.0 Having used for the better part of two years, I can say it has greatly improved our takeoff speed and provided the ability to accomplish several time consuming tasks quickly. Stack features allow me to achieve a great degree of accuracy, and they seem to constantly improve the product with new tools like the snap feature. In the future we look forward to deploying Stack to an even greater extent to win more work, and generate more revenue! Pros First and foremost, I enjoy the takeoff speed and accuracy affords our estimating department. Simply by clicking a link on a plan exchange site, or quickly uploading plans, we can begin a highly detailed accurate takeoff in minutes if not seconds. Likewise, we can complete our takeoff much faster than traditional methods saving valuable time to analyze our bids post takeoff. Cons Like any good cost hawk, I would highlight price as my least favorite aspect of Software; though I will say the product represents good value for the price! I would like to see Stack offer the complete product in one package, without the present tiered pricing. I still need to master some of the mechanics, i just wish some of the mechanics were a little easier to use and manipulate. Pros I love the access to customer support, and is helpful. The quantity take off feature is one of my favorites, but still needs work. Especially for redundant clicking for typical rooms. An easier "cut paste" option would be nice. Cons Software is a tad bit on the glitchy side. Would love to see ui get as smooth/intuitive as Planswift. Technical Representative Construction Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "User friendly but Estimates with Labor and Quantity of Materials needs to improve" July 24, 2023 4.0 Overall it's a good software platform, although the learning curve takes a lot of work and time to get used to how it functions to get to your overall goal, which is an accurate estimate from electronic plans/aerial images. Id say the best feature is the takeoffs since its so fluid. The Reports tab and Estimates tab needs some improvement though. I would even add an additional tab for things like proposal generation or a landing page for Salesforce.com. Pros It's very user friendly when you know how to make work for you.. The vibrant colors associated to it. The fluidity of the takeoffs. The modern, cutting-edge technology. Cons The Estimates tab feature needs to be improved dramatically. It is not only confusing with the wording and placement of cost categories, but the pricing can be off sometimes. The labor or Degree of Difficulty should have a function with the assemblies to realize how hard of a job it is and factor that into the estimate automatically. Also, the pricing in the Material costs category should have a box with Quantities that you can change to a whole number, not a percentage ('Waste'). Because at that point your guessing how much to take out or add out of 100% to get to the number you want and it's time consuming and difficult to do it that way. Review Source AP Alex P. There are also plenty of resources for you to receive help if needed. I use it everyday. Cons Cons are very minimal if any. For me, I would say maybe is making organizing the takeoff a little bit simpler. Possibly reduce the steps it takes to group takeoffs together.
