Pros The software is incredibly easy to use. After one tutorial from the stack support team(which is also a huge plus), I felt very comfortable navigating the platform. Assemblies are a fantastic feature. Cons I could use a tutorial(maybe it already exists) for interchangeability from stack to estimating software like Sage, or Project Management software like procore. June 27, 2017 5.0 Pros Stack is a great product for doing takeoffs efficiently and at a great price. The features that come with it are great, and they are constantly adding new ones. I love the fact that you get immediate attention from the developers whenever you have a question or comment. The only thing better than their product it the customer service! Cons It can be a little buggy when using different browsers. If I remember correctly , I was using Firefox and had problems, they told me to switch to Chrome, and when I started getting comfortable with Chrome I started having issues and they told me to switch to Firefox! I currently use Chrome, and there can occasionally be a little bug here or there (ex. trying to select one of my items to edit - hint: use the multiselect!). May 31, 2017 5.0 Generating accurate takeoffs and reports as an estimator, to get accurate pricing on materials for our projects is a main role of my position Pros I love how easy STACK is to use. I literally can hop on my computer and generate a takeoff and reports of a pretty complex drawing within minutes. I don't have to calculate anything, as this software does the math for me. Additionally, I haven't had to ever use technical support for STACK because it's always live and working when I am, but there is always a button to talk to a representative present on the screen in case I do run into trouble. Another thing I love, is that it's online browser-based, and I never have to worry about saving anything. It automatically saves wherever I have left off on a project. Speaking of projects, STACK also allows one to organize different projects on it's calendar very easily, and things can also be edited/changed/deleted efficiently. Without STACK my job would be a lot harder, and take a lot longer. I'm not even sure that I've taken advantage of everything that STACK has to offer, but as you can see, I am thrilled for what I use it for. I am fairly new to this application, and career, but as you can see, I love it. I'm sure it has paid for itself many times over. Cons Sometimes STACK can lag a bit, but I'm willing to say that it has to do with some of the drawings/prints that I have had to upload there, and not necessarily the fault of the STACK application. January 24, 2017 3.0 We have been using StackCT for over two years now and you cannot beat the bang for your buck. Having the owners directly involved with the process gives it a "local, family" business feel and that is something we value and choose to support. It's ease of use and self-explanatory nature make it a no brainer for our small family business. Our only issue is that it can lag pretty heavily at times making take-offs a bit frustrating. Overall we highly recommend StackCT to anyone looking for a great Estimating Software for a killer price. Pros Easy of use. Staff and support. Cloud based. Was able to seamlessly work while out of town. Cons Very slow uploads. Can lag heavily at times (we are using gigabit internet). Can be slow and frustrating while doing take offs from time to time. When updates are running you can't access your take-off system. No, "offline" option. This people are heartless and criminal. Pros Nothing good about them. Find alternative. There is plenty good softwares around. Cons We supported Stack for seven years and helped them grow. This year in return they decided to put up the cost. From $999Usd they want $1999usd per year for one user. Trainers seem to be invested in our success and making Stack do what we need it to do for the most part. Trainers have been very involved in building Stack in a way that works best for our business. Pros Stack has allowed us to become more accurate with our lumber take off's. Visual aids help in not forgetting parts and pieces throughout the process. The "assemblies" feature allows us to calculate multiple related products in one measurement. Speed and accuracy has increased. Cons We do not use stack for project management or a sales software. We use reports and the new estimate tool heavily. None of the reports seem to really be useful for our down the line production. Different organizational tools and expanded project notes need to be implemented to aid accuracy in process's down the line within our organization Reason for choosing STACK Stack was the closest to meeting our needs Review Source Matthew S. You can access the files from anywhere with internet. The program is really easy to use. Cons I would like to see hatch patterns added to the area takeoff colors. I think it could be a great selling tool for you if this was more advanced Pros I do somewhat like the software and will continue to use it. Autocount can be a great feature but is not worth it right now. Cons Uploading drawings they do not stay in the order of the original pdf. Printing takeoffs they do not EVER print in a logical order and I have to spend extra time to organize the drawings. No set Library, there needs to be a set library where I can edit things without being in a project. Autocount is a cool feature but has SO many bugs that it makes it not worth it. I have had a lot of issues with how long it takes to upload drawings lately and the software seems to run slow even when I am just doing a takeoff. The way reports export in excel makes it not even worth it to use that function. I understand every company is different with how they need reports so it would be nice if like other softwares you can pick exactly what you want to export or see on the report. i.e Quickbooks does great at this. I have stopped using chat because I always get the answer that the software had an upgrade or there are large amounts of people uploading documents. Hopefully as the company grows that can get fixed. June 4, 2018 4.0 We like the fact that Stack is web based, enabling us to work in an out of the office, or anywhere we have access to the internet. Pros We appreciate the ability of the software to quickly set up new projects and to get started working on them as soon as we receive work orders from our clients; the ability to see the underlying plan sheet on which were working is a hidden benefit - we often find ourselves using Stack as a plan review tool as well as a takeoff tool. The mobility of the view on the screen is most helpful - zooming in and out is especially useful. Our clients appreciate our ability to provide them plan sheets marked up with the takeoffs quantities visibly highlighted and in legend format. Cons We are civil estimators, and we frequently have the need to perform earthwork takeoffs from cross sections. Sadly, Stack does not yet have the ability to set dual scales (horizontal and vertical) that allow area takeoffs on cross sectional views. This is a feature improvement we've suggested many times when our product reps call us to check in with us periodically (which we appreciate), so we hope this becomes a new feature in the near future. July 31, 2023 5.0 As a new user, the ease with which I've been able to start using Stack has been great. I was able to hit the ground running by watching just a few of the getting started videos. This meant I was able to start getting usable data almost immediately. Pros I really like the ease of creating takeoffs for multiple item "systems". Cons The only thing I don't like is that it can't always recognize the text within a drawing so that you can jump to details, although I understand that this is a result of drawing quality, not the software itself. Pros The Items & Assemblies feature of STACK Pro allow us to create estimates that are accurate and detail focused. Cons Although STACK has already started deploying hot keys in their estimating software, we would really like to see a "DELETE" hot key. We also think having the ability to move drawing tabs around in the plan screen (similar to how one can move Google Chrome tabs in their browser) would help keep drawings in-order if they have been opened out of sequence. I also use it to measure sq footage and it again is very accurate and ease of use. Cons The feature that counts all of that type of material on the page using symbols on the drawing, sometimes it will pick up other symbols that are similar and you have to back and delete them, this could be better. May 29, 2018 5.0 We are younger folks in the business who are very familiar with excel and spreadsheet formulas. This program is made for those types of minds. What we have achieved with this program using custom assemblies is remarkable and powerful. This program has elevated our business and shaved thousands off the cost of estimating our projects without sacrificing the accuracy. Pros The program is easy to use out of the box/ The real magic is in the custom assemblies. You can create anything you're looking for. At first, these custom assemblies are cumbersome to set up. But once they are set up, taking off a project is almost automated. Add in some nifty features like different scales on the same drawing page, multipliers for different layers, multitool select for deleting and copying... We are very happy with this product for on-screen take-offs. The new excel template recently released is also great. Cons Honestly, there's always going to be something an end user wants but most of the things we want are things that are too difficult to apply universally. For example, we would love to see the ability to alter pricing and structure of existing assemblies but the only way to do that is to make it custom. We understand why, because all users draw from these assemblies. What would be nice is to copy groups within a stack assembly. Review Source JT Jeffery T.
