I have been able to bid faster than other estimators that don't use it. Amazing product. Pros Training staff is amazing. They will walk you through the system and take their time with you. I had never used software for take offs but after being train I will not go back to paper. Cons Its an expensive system for startups. I believe you really need to be set up in order to invest in this. But once you do, its worth it. It saves time and money on prints. Review Source KS Kendall S. Customer support is always top notch and I look forward to the other enhancements to come. Pros I recently had a wonderful experience with the support team. I was confused about a calculation on a takeoff. I chatted in and after a few messages back and forth I was offered to hop on a quick Zoom call. I was able to share my screen and within a minute or two we had everything figured out. It was seamless and so easy! Cons There is still not a mobile device app for the takeoff/estimate program. Expensive criminals who do anything to not issue a refund whilst making it as hard as possible to cancel a subscription. Pros was priced acceptably for drawing take off until to unjustifiably jumped up. Cons Took price increase money from account without notice. refused to refund. non responsive to customer service issues. Much better and far far cheaper options available. Estimator Mechanical or Industrial Engineering Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Some things I would like to see if possible" January 20, 2017 3.0 I like the product and have been using it for 2 years In the mechanical industry there are a lot of fittings that have be taken off and the system defaults to a check mark when taking off, this tends to get quite congested when fittings are very close together, it would be nice if the default could be changed to a circle, this would also save 1 extra step in the take off by not having to change to the small circle every time, there could be thousands of fittings to take off on a drawing and every time I need to change this takes just a little time but multiplied by thousands it adds up. This would be fantastic!! Another one is that it would be nice if it was possible to save a take off in a library, I know we can make an assembly, but if you need to do a new take off on a particular system it would be nice to be able to save it instead of having to make the assembly, saving another step in the process. This company is great to do business with. Pros Cloud based and customer service are the best out there. They are forward thinking and always chasing perfection. Its string suit is the takeoff and quantity devleopment for a single option for each facet of the project. Stack is difficult to use where one wishes to offer multiple options to a customer for a given aspect of the project. Pros Aerial area takeoffs are quite simple to do. Cons exporting estimates to excel could be easier. Also, creating multiple options for estimates is difficult to do. Reason for choosing STACK Price over Edge. May 1, 2019 5.0 I won't work without it, and it just keeps getting better and better!!!!! Pros A take off that would take me 2 days before I'm now doing in 3 hours max. I only print the drawings that I will actually use on a project and I can high lite what needs to be called out to my crews. The program saves about $300.00 in printing cost alone. As an added value I can send my takeoff sheets to my GC to make sure we covered everything, and it also gives me a back up if they would come back and say oh you should have included this. I can show them exactly what I bid and what they approved. It just saved me $28,000.00 on a job. Cons That it's not free, haha, but it cost money to go, first class. Its super easy to use and we take advantage of the integration that’s in it. Cons I wish they had more mark up features. Director Construction Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "Was not expecting things to be difficult" January 16, 2017 3.0 It runs very slow at times, to the point that I have to shut down my browser (Google Chrome) and restart it. I know it's not my internet, as I have zero problems with other websites. Furthermore, I can not stand it when I download drawings, upload them, and then have them show "þÿ" as a plan name. Not only do I have to waste time by going through each drawing individually to rename it to the original name, but there are many times that it does not save, and is named something else. An example is I was just trying to change the "þÿ" to "overall roof plans." After making the change, and going back to the page that I thought was "overall roof plans," it was labeled elevations. Not only does this take a lot of extra time, that it shouldn't, but it is extremely frustrating. Between having to rename files, and restarting my browser when it locks up, I feel as though this is not worth the money. I also use Planswift, and I do not have these same issues. Unless things like this are resolved, I will not continue with this software once my yearly subscription expires. Pros I can get an answer quickly, when asked. Cons Read the review. It locks up, and I have to keep re-naming drawings that have downloaded. It was so complicated that I never could learned how to do the basic functions even though I paid thousands of dollars to take their classes. The teachers of those classes treated all the students like they were the annoying part of their job. Pros Cost, ease of use. does not try to be all things to all people, simple, easy to learn. We can now complete a take off on a framing scope, for example, in a few hours. The speed is also do to the ability to have assemblies setup so we are not doing the same work twice. Set up your assemblies, do your take off, print an entire report on the quantities of the items and the materials it takes to build those items. Pros 1) Easy to train new employees on basic use 2) Fast and accurate takeoff information 3) Excellent customer service when an issues or question arises 4) Stack is always listening to what the customers want and they try and make the upgrades and changes as soon as possible Cons 1) There are no hot keys to make the takeoff process even faster 2) Since the updated version, the other minor issues have went away Review Source CM Carey M. You can't beat stack! Pros This makes estimating as easy and as efficient as it will ever get. I like how the assemblies can all be run right through the system and then be exported into an excel. I also really like how this is a cloud system so I know I can access from any device and I also can know that all my work is being saved immediately. Cons Our team has been experiencing glitches where the takeoff will abruptly end without having double clicked to end it. There also is no undo feature so when you make a mistake on a takeoff you have to delete it and redo the entire thing. There should be a ctrl z type undo feature. Review Source JA Jesus A. Terrific product and great people. Pros Web-based functionality allows multiple estimators to tackle large jobs together. Cons The process to build assemblies for proper costing and linking to our system is tedious and needs to be continually reviewed on our end. It has nothing to do with STACK's functionality but is a necessary process to undertake in order to get proper costing. Our costing changes regularly so we need constant maintenance. Estimator Construction Used the software for: 1-2 years ### "Beginner's Review of StackCT" May 6, 2019 4.0 We have a stucco siding company, the takeoffs on elevations is generally very straight forward, so we're thankful for that. It saves time, reduces errors, and being able to print those marked up takeoffs helps our guys on site when there's multiple materials being used on the walls. We will continue to use this product. Pros The ease of use initially, getting a handle on the basic controls, how simple it is to input scales, draw lines, cut things out of takeoffs, and rename items as I go. The colour coding of separate takeoffs is a real plus. Cons Periodic stalls, not sure if it's the program or internet related, but you measure an area and cannot complete the double click takeoff, it just sits, so you have to delete and redo. Again only sporadic, but annoying. Likely due to web based software. It would be nice to get emails sent periodically that contain tips, tricks, good ideas, links to tutorials, etc. Review Source AC Alicia C. This is something that has been a game changer and we will also have a software due to it now. Pros Honestly, the best part about this software is how "Dumb-proof" it actually is to use. Cons Sometimes when accidently uploaded a ton of documents it is quite difficult to go through and pick all but the 4-5 needed one at a time to delete. This has been my main issue. I can do a take off on linear or area measurements in a relatively short amount of time and print out detailed or summary reports that I can add to job files for late reference. I also like the printing function that easily prints out only those drawings that I have done a take off on and I can add other drawings if needed. I like that I can choose the colors for takeoffs so that I can uniformly use the same color and line thickness on a drawing to separate measurements like one color for exterior elevations and another color for doors and windows. I use the same colors for every project so that other people in my organization know exactly what each measurement is through its color code. Pros I like the way the software splits up and organizes drawings and plans so that I can easily find what drawing page I am looking for. Cons It freezes on occasion. I wouldn't say it freezes a lot, but I would say it freezes enough to notice it happens more than I would like. Review Source RW Robert W. Some of your competitors have that, and that's incredibly valuable in the construction world to be able to search key words and avoid missing fine details in the bidding process. Please add this feature so I don't have to go back and forth from Adobe! Pros SUPER user friendly! I'm relatively tech-savvy, but I had never used a take-off software that I could be proficient with in less than an hour of playing around with it by myself with no tutorial. A great selling point for you and your team. Cons The new patch to increase upload speed messed with the rendering process. I haven't been able to use the pdf's as soon as they're uploaded because I can't read anything when I zoom in. It does clear up in time, but that is an inconvenience I have to deal with momentarily. This wasn't initially the case when I first got this software, so I'd rather have a slower upload and ready to use right away, than have to wait some unknown time period for the rendering to finish.
