Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Hightail deletes previous "app" access to file uploading" October 4, 2017 1.0 Pros I USED to like the ease of drop and send high volume files to my clients which were remembered in the app. Cons Hightail has been phasing in a secondary "online access" version which does not perform at all like their previous "Yousendit" app platform. They just stopped supporting the app version last week without announcing to customers. I've just paid for a year of enhanced service for my business. This is not professional customer care, it is a move to get everyone to pay a monthly access fee like most other online services. Not cool! Large files are sometimes a pain to send through email; Hightail makes this whole process quick, easy, and efficient. I can grab the link after I have sent files over to someone's email, I can request a download receipt, I can make certain files password protected, and I can even have some Hightail files expire if needed. I've never spent more than 5 minutes prepping to send out a Hightail file. Cons The download time is sometimes long depending on the file sizes and internet speed you are working with. I have waited a few hours sometimes for downloads. This is the only place I wish could be improved. " April 26, 2019 2.0 Pros One of the leading industry standard file transferring services so most folks are familiar with using it. Cons I could be in the minority here but I long for the early days of HighTail / YouSendIt. Some companies are simply not content to do one thing and do it well and that unfortunately has happened to HighTail over time. Clunky interface, features that have very little use to try to bulk up the product. There was an elegant simplicity to using the site years ago and now it has become a bit of a slog. Hightail is my ftp site. Pros I enjoy using the Hightail platform to send large files to clients and for clients to send large files to my firm. Art files for printing can be extremely large in size making email incompatible for sending. I can upload to Hightail and send in very short time to a client and they will get an email with a link to download. One of the benefits is the client can just download with out having to populate a form with all sorts of personal information. Additionally when I send a file I can immediately get a copy of the download link and email that to others or to the recipient explaining what has been uploaded. Another benefit is that I can email my client a link to upload files to me taking the place of having to maintain my own ftp site. The Hightail platform is USER FRIENDLY for both my staff and my clients staff. I have been using it for years and still see it as a WIN-WIN software program. But I'd my customers are not happy I'm not happy. They need to ba able to download the images quickly and easily without signing up for anything. Pros Asa professional photographer I rely on sending images to customers your service has been great. Cons A significant number if customers have difficulty downloading the images. They dont want to sign up for anything they just want to see their images. Sending large files is still awkward and takes a long time to download. Back when it was yousendit, I find it's a great way to send proofs and get a visual confirmation of receipt and that they are capable of commenting directly onto proofs Cons The only complaint I have is that I have a lot of contacts and I can't seem to delete or remove old addresses. That is rather frustrating, but used to it so not a deal breaker. If that was corrected that would be the best!! Review Source Katie R. October 16, 2019 5.0 At Creating U we use Hightail daily to send audition tapes to casting directors, talent agents and managers. Pros I like how Hightail shows you the number of views your files have received along with showing how many times it has been downloaded. Cons I cannot really say what I least like about Hightail. Reliable, easy to use, and affordable, Hightail is my choice over all the other available services. Cons In the 12 plus years I have used Hightail (and it predecessor, yousendit) I really can't think of any, offhand. Like I said, it has meant that we can do more work, do it more quickly. For fear of you raising your prices, I have to say that it's a real bargain. Pros Basically, it's functionality. I advise a college radio station. With my Hightail account, I'm able to transfer files from a computer in one studio to a computer in another without the computers being networked. That makes things so much more efficient. That, plus just being able to send audio and video files quickly anywhere is just great. The lack of limits on size and frequency of use is also terrific. Cons There have been changes as you've gone from YouSendIt to Hightail and that meant having to figure out what I used to do so easily. Their desktop app for the mac is synching the folders on my account but not bringing the files in that belong in the folders. the only way for me to access files that my clients have shared with me is to recreate the folder hierarchy on my desktop and manually download each file. Our desktop sync app is designed to Sync everything that you have located in your Hightail cloud account including all files and folders. My guess from your description is that you had a lot of files and folders that needed to sync and that first sync can take some time. We will first create the folders within the app and then start to download all of the files one by one. If you have many Gigabytes of data this process can take some time. This is just a guess and without knowing all of the details on what was happening with the app at that time it’s hard to diagnose. Pros I like the versatility of Hightail. Once you have an account set up, you can use its desktop application to upload numerous files (of very large sizes) to multiple recipients. You can also perform the same tasks via your account on Hightail's website. Cons One cannot upload a file and forward the link to download the file to multiple people via email. This is not necessarily a "con", as this is a cybersecurity issue, but it does mean you may have to upload the same file many times to send it to specific people if they were excluded or forgotten in previous distributions. Especially the automatic connection with Outlook. Sending an email with big attachments is just a few clicks unlike Dropbox which I also use which requires uploading, creating links and copying etc. With Hightail it is much easier. Pros I like its file tracking feature that allows me to track sent and received files on various dates. Additionally, the data-sharing notification feature is excellent that makes file sharing more professional and managed. Cons With its free account space for storage is limited to 2 GB only, and also the maximum file size upload is only 250 MB, which is very low as compared to the other similar cloud storage providers out there. Content & Product Manager E-Learning Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "Overall great feature set, could do with some functionality tweaking" July 9, 2019 4.0 I manage the content for an educational video publisher, often delivering orders as well as managing videos to be uploaded onto the site. Hightail makes it easy to do everything I need to do in one place, as well as looking professional (more so than a wetransfer link in my opinion) when delivering orders. Pros \- The ability to send large quantities of content - The ability for people to deliver large amounts of material to me without having to create an account - The ability to collaborate with remoters on creative projects Cons \- Sometimes deliveries fail with no warning (the upload will stop at a certain 'time remaining') and I'll have to redo it. This means I have to remember exactly what was in the last batch etc. - You can't filter your received files by anything (date, user, type etc.) - You can't filter your sent items by the same. - Sometimes downloading large numbers of files at once doesn't work (maybe that's just an unzipping problem on my end?) - Sometimes people sending content via our uplink get confused and cannot access it, or try and create an account. They appreciate the manner in which the notifications come to them, and the ease with which they can access and download the large files I send to them. They also love the simple method for sending files to me, utilizing my uplink. I appreciate the Hightail service so much! Pros I had been using YouSendIt for years, and have stuck with the company through the re-branding to Hightail, and the acquisition by OpenText. I've tried other collaborative large file transfer services, but have always either found inadequacies of design, reliability issues, and poor support. Hightail is it for me! I will go nowhere else. My first time using this was when a collaborator needed to send me files that were too large, and I found that process very simple, so I started using it from time to time when I need to send a one-off file to someone that is too large to email. Pros I love that it is extremely easy for everyone involved to use. Whether you are sending or receiving files, it's a very simple process which is so important when I use this service with clients. Cons I think it's a bit expensive to use for larger files. I would like to see a less expensive plan than PRO at $12 that will give you a bit more options than the FREE version. As it is, with FREE I cannot set an expiration date or password, but do not use the service enough to warrant paying the PRO monthly price. Cons When you share a link, you need to pay attention to when it expires, as sometimes it can expire relatively quickly. I have enjoyed the ability to send large files (I do graphic design & video creation) to clients. Have not had a need to contact customer support (that I can remember).
