Programming Director Media Production Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Too Often Crashes" July 12, 2019 4.0 I send audio files to the radio station where I am programming director. I sometimes send audio files to people who request them. Pros Easy to use in terms of general process. Cons It very frequently starts saving an audio file and then stalls. After a stall happens, you have to start over if it is ever going to send. Lately it has wobbled like crazy when it is sending. That is visually alarming. Review Source L Liz.O Used the software for: ### "Good for Sending, Bad for Backup" May 13, 2013 3.0 I've been using this product for over a year now and after having such great luck with the Free version, I opted for the Pro Plus version about 8 months ago. I love the way it implements itself directly in Outlook making sending large files a breeze without having to do ANY extra steps (no need to even .zip a folder anymore). However, now I've recently gotten into using their Desktop Application that's supposed to make syncing files to the cloud and other computers a breeze, but this has not been the case. The 1st thing I noting was that I literally have to duplicate my file on my hard drive to put them in their desktop app in order for them to sync (without this, they are limited to 2GB file size) - ok, I made sure my work computer had a massive hard drive when I purchased it, so this isn't an issue for me personally. However, I DO keep an external hard drive at home that I like to keep a physical backup of my work files - apparently, you are not allowed to save your synced file anyplace else other than your hard drive unless you copy and paste from their file. This is outrageous to me. There should be a way to just save the YSI file directly to my external drive without having to save it to my C drive FIRST. The biggest issue of all is when I went to their website for Support - apparently this has been the most talked about/complained about issue for over 2 years with absolutely NO RESPONSE from YSI. After doing more research with other services, I will lower my Stars in this review as soon as I find another provider to replace YSI. Pros Easy to send files and folders from Email with ProPlus version. Cons Must duplicate files on hard drive in order to save to Cloud. Remembering email address Retaining data so if I need to forward on a file to another person, I don't need to re-upload. We don't think about using Hightail in our day to day, we just default to it. I no longer need to create DVD's and physically mail them. It really saves time and expense. Pros I use it for a hobby business I have. I send training videos to customers using Hightail. The upload and sending speed is great. I can fulfill several orders while I am sitting drinking my morning coffee.....it is just to easy. Cons I would love it if this software allowed me to send but not give the customer the ability to download/save/share.....but rather had the ability to allow someone access to view for a set amount of time. Pros Easily I can send and track files being sent to my clients. I can adjust the time the file is available and get a notification. As to when the files have been downloaded. To me that’s critical. August 14, 2014 2.0 This service would be just the perfect cloud service out there if it could sync your files to the cloud from any drive on your computer through its sync service. Google drive does it, Dropbox does it and many others.... Hightail offers the incredible plan promising unlimited storage space. But you only can sync files located on your operating system main drive (not external or backup drives). On the age of SSDs their fantastic offer becomes somehow unusable and at a certain point cynic and unfair... So if it is just for sending large files, use the beautiful "wetransfer", cause the synching offer from hightail is just ridiculous limited. The preview system of the online folders is also not good. Very hard to browse through photos or videos on the cloud, no preview thumbnail is available and you have to wait a lot of time to preview a photo, video or pdf online. Pros Clean interface Nice upload speed through the Hightail tracker app Nice download speed with the download link from the sending service Expiration date control of sent files and tracking about "by who" and "when" the file was downloaded. Cons Unfair storage space offer (promising what they cannot accomplish). Only your main operating system drive can sync files to the cloud. Bad sync app not offering the functions that a sync app must have today. You can't preview files online easily. Review Source MA Michael A. Music composer Entertainment Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Hightail Convenience" July 8, 2019 5.0 The fact that Hightail is website based means I can access the program easily from any of the computers I use to generate content without having to load an app on each of them. Pros An easy and practical way to send large video and music files. Cons The website interface is awkward. Especially the black background with white text that makes finding the cursor difficult. There is little grace to the overall design. Reason for choosing OpenText HighTail I wanted a program that wasn't tied to a platform (IOS, Windows 10, etc.) and was universal in it's application. In other words, I can send anything to anyone on any platform (or a lot to people on different platforms) as long as they have an email address. Review Source Jim K. It's great to have a dedicated unindexed URL to give others that doesn't require them to create an account. Pros Ability to make a large file safely sharable and downloadable via a simple link. Cons Nothing really bothered me about the software. It was nice that you can see the files that you've previously sent and that the UI remembers emails you've already sent to and autofills them. It’s an extremely easy to use file transfer platform. For most people the free account will function for their purposes, and the rates for a higher level of storage are reasonable. Cons I don’t think their name and connections in the business world are as prolific. People know of it but I’m not really sure Howell integrated it is with other software sweets like for example one drive or Google Drive. Review Source JE Jon E. Cons After the file/folder is sent, I would like to go to a page to show me when that file/folder was downloaded and by whom rather than having to opt for an email to be sent to me. Self employed Arts and Crafts Used the software for: 1-2 years ### "Slower than Wetransfer" September 18, 2015 2.0 This program used to be good, but now is so slow I can't even deal with it. The upload speeds are as if I have dial up. I mainly have an issue with any file that is bigger that 50mb. I use the desktop app, still slow, so then I started using wetransfer as a comparison. What would (450mb file) take 5 hours to upload on Hightail literally only took 19 minutes to upload with wetransfer, so obviously the problem isn't with me, it's with Hightail. Oh and if you tell hightail that the upload speeds are mindnumbingly slow, they tell you it's your fault... which would be true if it weren't for wetransfer showing me evidence to the contrary. Pros They have unlimited storage on the cloud. Cons Bad customer service, and horrific upload speeds. When your main job of your app is to upload files to the internet, and you can't do that quicker than it would be for me to travel by horse and buggy with a hard drive 30 miles, I'm pretty sure you're failing at what you offer. I am very pleased with the quality and the ease of sending documents to customers that are too large to email. Pros Being able to use spaces for customers to review their proofs. Yearly payment is automatic. I use it and forget it. No hassles and it works every time. And more professional look for my company than the 'dropbox' for the masses. Pros There are no hassles with ftp sites or slow and vulnerable dropbox sites. Gives my company a professional look. Cons The 'send file by Hightail' option no longer comes up in the pop-up menu when I right click a file in windows explorer. Missing Sendit that way. It makes file sharing super easy and convenient now that the world is in a more "work from home" environment, like my team. Pros The ease of uploading large documents and the upload time is super easy/quick. It gives you an email notification that you can even forward if you forgot to include someone to the original route list. Cons I use the free version so there is a limit to how long the file will be available to download. It's not awful and you get a months amount of time. I work with dozens of clients and each one has their own space, with its own URL. Cons I wish I could have folders or "sub-spaces" within a space. At the moment, I need to constantly delete old files off of each space to keep things clean when I have to upload new files. Sub-spaces would allow me to keep things organized even as I add new files. Pros Hightail has a useful and clean interface for transferring files. The Hightail dashboard is useful for monitoring who has downloaded you files and when. Specifically, download notifications are extremely useful in making sure clients have received their files. Cons Hightail's free plan is not very useful.
