Used the software for: ### "Ridiculously slow download speed" June 19, 2014 1.0 I've been downloading video and photo files for three afternoons to collect 400+ files to produce a video of a B.C. cat-skiing week. The files show a download speed of under 30kps! For HD video, this is nonsense! Doesn't matter if you download 1 file or 20 at once: each file downloads as if you have a classic 54k modem. If you have files larger than 10MB, forget this service! My rating would be 1/4 star if that option was available. Pros If you have lots of time, go for it! Cons Slow, Slow, Slow! Review Source Response from OpenText June 25, 2014 Hi Mark, The download speeds of any files through our service can be a factor of many things going on. In most speed cases we do see that the users ISP is having issues and your speed is currently being impacted. Can you run a speedtest through our site at http://learn.hightail.com? Just click on the “Test your connection” button and you can see the current upload and download speeds that you are getting to an independent third party server located nearby our data center in San Jose. If you aren’t getting the upload speeds that you should with your ISP’s plan, I would suggest contacting them. If you need any further assistance we have a great support team that can help you troubleshoot. March 12, 2020 5.0 As a cameraman/producer in Israel I have used Hightail for years as a vital tool for sending video clips and edited programs to customers in America and around the world. Hightail is dependable, accessible, and easy to use not only from Israel, but from places like Eastern Syria, and Iraqi Kurdistan. Hightail provides a great service. Pros As a cameraman/producer, sending video clips is essential to my work. Hightail has been a vital tool. Pros It is quick to load up big files, it's easy to use, it rarely fails and it saves me so much time! Plus our clients love it and find it easy too use. Cons I need to spend more time working out the feedback/comments section on the software. I have only been able to manually load each contact I have had troubles in the past with files not downloading completely then trying to drag them inform my home screen Review Source VR Verified Reviewer Used the software for: 1-2 years ### "Used to be good" May 3, 2016 1.0 Bunch of changes just too place, which probably explains some of the odd things happening with it last week (files sent by client, no email notifications were received, etc.). There's a new app to replace Hightail Express, called "Send." Which doesn't allow you to do something that was one of the more useful things in HE--forward received files to other people. In my case, the people who would transcribe the (usually audio, sometimes video) files for my clients. I'm still learning about the ways in which this program is no longer as useful to me as it once was, but color me deeply, deeply unhappy. Hightail seems to want to turn itself into something for which I have no use--a program where you can "share" projects with your "team"... good luck with that, if that's what you need. I need to keep track of the files and know when they are downloaded. Pros Simple, reliable, fast, accurate, dependable. Cons A few features I don't understand...that's my problem. I would like to have a feature that allows me to limit the number of downloads. That would be very helpful to me. I sell download files of sheet music that are copyright and I need to limit the number of times the file is downloaded. The best part is that one can set an expiration date if you want to restrict the access to the file. I send small files all the time with a 1-2 day expiration. For large files, the system really uploads crazy large files efficiently and in a timely manner. Sometimes it takes awhile, but that's ok. Cons That is won't just let me download - it wants me to store files in "my hightail." I use it as a middle man - it's not my go to storage location. Review Source RT Robert T. I suppose if you can base your working practice, and interface with clients, around it (and I don't think that would be wise) it might work well. Cons For me it's over complicated and unreliable. Also, while I had an account they changed their name twice, which is an irksome complication between me and my clients and shows a lack of stability with the company. My biggest complaint now is that their "customer service'" doesn't deliver (like their software, much of the time). We also "hightail" files much more than we use Dropbox to external partners. Pros I think it's easy to use for less tech-savvy people. You can just drag and drop files and copy links without having to figure out how to send the email full of files. Cons I think I just prefer Dropbox to Hightail and the way it's being utilized within my team is a bit confusing (one administrator and we all log in as the same person), which means the receiver can be a bit confused. It's a great product! Pros Ease of use. Brilliant for handling big sends of multiple photos. Cons Customers VERY occasionally have some trouble opening files. But it's very rare and maybe a system issue at their end. Since upgrading I seem to have trouble sending folders. Pros I can send all of the documents related to a single project at once - including large files. Cons When the format changed, I had a bit of trouble figuring out how to send files.
