They aren't always hounding me to upgrade, which is refreshing. Could I handle prettier emails? Sure, but I don't feel that's top priority for me right now. The priority is getting something written and out to my list. In fact, keeping it simple with their drag and drop method gets me in and out of the platform fast and allows me to get back into my studio and onto the things that drive my business... making my paintings. Pros To be honest, the thing I like most is that EmailOctopus is free. As a small art business, I watch costs very closely. I like that my account with EmailOctopus will grow only as I grow. As I grow my list, which means I have more opportunity to earn more, then I don't mind paying for features that I'll probably need down the line. Also, it's a simple to use platform which I appreciate. I have easy access to my data (my list). Another thing that I like is that they implement a verification process to get into my account. It's simple and fast yet gives a sense of protection that I want. Cons Some things I like least about EmailOctopus would be that I don't have access to my data reports for each individual campaign for very long. I think it's 2 weeks. However, they do give you the option to download them as a csv which is nice. You just need to catch it in time and download. Of course if you upgrade to a paid version you have access to your data at any time. Not having long term access is a price I'm willing to pay at the moment. The emails are fairly simple to make, however as a past graphic designer, I find myself wondering why the platform won't do a certain thing design wise but it's never been a big deal. In that experience, I had never encountered this level of operational intrusion. After onboarding, importing my list, and preparing campaigns, my campaign was placed on hold for manual review. EmailOctopus later confirmed that my campaign did not violate any compliance rule. Despite this, they manually opened and reviewed my private campaign content and initiated an extended investigation into my internal business processes, lead acquisition methods, and data structure. They questioned: Why some contacts did not have “first names” (even though my form only collects a single name field) Why B2B contacts used role-based emails (info@, hello@, etc.) How my internal workflows operate How leads are processed internally All contacts were first-party, permission-based, and obtained through legitimate business channels. No purchased or scraped data was used. Instead of relying on standard industry indicators (complaints, bounce rates, engagement, unsubscribe rates), the platform relied on subjective manual reviews and repeated documentation requests. This created delays, uncertainty, and business risk. At some point, continuing would have required disclosing sensitive internal company processes just to send lawful campaigns. Recommendation EmailOctopus may be suitable for hobby projects or very small personal lists. For professional, B2B, or client-facing email marketing, I cannot recommend it due to unpredictable compliance enforcement and excessive operational interference. We asked some routine questions to understand the gap. Reviewing campaign content and asking new senders about list acquisition is standard practice across the email industry. I'm very happy to have stumbled upon it. Pros It's very user-friendly and simplifies setting up my brand identity as I can save bespoke colours and logos to use week on week. Cons I would like to be able to change my default settings so that I don't have to remember to untick/tick certain options before I release a campaign. So far it has been a joy to use and at some point I will go on the paid plan. Pros I have used other platforms, but I wasn't satisfied with the quality and ease of use. Also, the service provided is very good and very secure. Currently I am on the free plan, but when my email list grows, I will consider a paid plan. The data and analytics are also easy to work with. Cons I have no cons to report. In the beginning there was some learning, but this is not a con as anything new has a learning curve. June 13, 2025 5.0 It's been easy to figure out, and it's been very simple to find answers when I can't figure something out on my own. I've been happy with each NL that I sent, and usually can get them formatted in less than 20 minutes(as long as I already have the information I plan to add to it). I really love having the ability to set up templates. Pros Out of the providers I've tried for sending emails, this has been the most user-friendly. You don't have to get a college degree in software or whatever to figure it out. I love that because when I have had people ask me a question about it, I have been able to help them, even the ones who can barely navigate sites like facebook. Cons I wish I could do more with the overall background that would make things more fun. Oh, and when it looks like the sizes are set correctly with the words and images so they end at the same place, somehow it's always a little off from the way it looked on the site to how it looks in the actual email. But that might just be my personal sizing on my laptop. It has enabled us to send out a brand newsletter and was far easier to use than the competitor sites which we tried before and did not fit our requirements. It gives far more creative ability and gives far more options for customisation as well as tracking results from your email send out. Pros Easy to Use, Lower paid thresholds than other competitors. More editing options and flexibility in design. Cons Could enhance creative function a little further, whilst it offers a lot of creative direction there are some more features that could be added such as making the elements of a design more easily moveable and customisable. It had features that claimed to work but didn't whenever I wanted to use them. This is a better program than my old one, and you support my NetZero email account. I also like that the environment seemed simular to others I have used so it was easy to use. Cons I wish I had more control over how things look. When doing columns and wanting side by side images looks one way on a computer and another way on the mobile. It takes a lot of tweeking to get things to line up in a way that makes sense on both devices. Can keep template emails that you can save and amend at any future date. User friendly and great functions for free. Pros I use EmailOctopus for my small business. I use the free version and use get some great features for free. I set up weekly campaigns and send out to different groups, ie schools and nurseries. I have draft emails that are easy to amend and make copies of to keep and amend at future dates. I love how you can look back in each campaign to see the percentage of opened emails and also who has clicked on links. So easy to keep your contacts all in once place and organised in groups. Cons I find it quite time consuming to make emails when adding pictures and links but this would probably be the case with most systems. Review Source Devona G.
