September 21, 2026 5.0 Importing a very large client list, managing old emails and removing inactive accounts, while also gaining insights into what buttons are being pushed and what links my customers are engaging with has been so helpful. I’ve enjoyed creating campaigns and using the simple platform to design a very good looking professional email to send to my customers! Pros EmailOctopus is straightforward and easy to use, which is probably what I appreciate most. The interface is drag and drop or click to add and it formats perfectly with no coding or complex design skills needed. I’m a small business owner and I don’t have time to fight with complicated email software just to send something to all of my customers. It gives me the tools I actually need to create nice-looking emails, manage my list and send campaigns without feeling overwhelming. I also really appreciate the pricing compared with some of the bigger email marketing platforms. I was able to import my previous client account lists from another provider very easily and I can one click remove or add new emails/customers as I need. I’ve reached out to customer support only a couple times and the response is very quick. Often I can search for help topics on what I’m looking for as well and the videos/ reviews online are very helpful. The security is sound and I feel confident sending my campaigns. When someone asks to unsubscribe, the platform alerts me and I can take care of it quickly. This security makes me feel better knowing I can comply with marketing rules and regulations quickly and be notified to make the change immediately. Cons There are a few areas where it feels a little more basic than some of the larger email marketing platforms, especially when it comes to more advanced features and customization of campaign fields and colors, but honestly it hasn’t been a deal breaker for me. However, the way contacts are counted across separate lists made my costs higher than expected. I would strongly recommend using one main list with segmentation instead of creating overlapping lists, but I also think EmailOctopus should explain this pricing impact more clearly. It is a good platform, but billing transparency around duplicated subscribers across lists needs improvement. Pros EmailOctopus is still very easy to use. I like the clean interface, good templates, drag-and-drop editor, and how quickly I can create and send campaigns. Overall, it remains a practical and user-friendly platform for email marketing with good pricing. Cons My main issue is how subscriber billing works across multiple lists. I had one main list with 4,000+ subscribers, and I created another list from part of that audience with around 1,000+ subscribers. Even though I only used that second list once, the subscribers were counted again toward my total, so I ended up paying for more than 5,000 subscribers. This increased my monthly cost from about $28 to $34. I think this should be made much clearer inside the platform, with a stronger warning before users create overlapping lists. I use the free version and use get some great features for free. I set up weekly campaigns and send out to different groups, ie schools and nurseries. I have draft emails that are easy to amend and make copies of to keep and amend at future dates. I love how you can look back in each campaign to see the percentage of opened emails and also who has clicked on links. So easy to keep your contacts all in once place and organised in groups. March 6, 2026 5.0 I uploaded a brand new list to Email Octopus with subs who downloaded a reader magnet and within twenty minutes I had a campaign that was easy and simple to set up, and a multiple email automation based on triggers and subscriber actions. From upload to send in 20 minutes. It's that easy, and deliverability was great. The interface is very intuitive, and though I haven't used it, help was available for the asking at every step. Pros Simple and easy to set up, we use Email Octopus to parse new email subs from multiple lists and give them an automation sequence. It took less than 5 minutes to upload a list, and another 10 to set up a multi-touchpoint email automation. Super affordable, and easy to scale too. Cons The intial 2500 sub limit was considered a detraction for us when we first started, since a lot of our lead gen magnets attract a lot of subs who only want the freebie. I wish there were "industry specific" limits. In that experience, I had never encountered this level of operational intrusion. After onboarding, importing my list, and preparing campaigns, my campaign was placed on hold for manual review. EmailOctopus later confirmed that my campaign did not violate any compliance rule. Despite this, they manually opened and reviewed my private campaign content and initiated an extended investigation into my internal business processes, lead acquisition methods, and data structure. They questioned: Why some contacts did not have “first names” (even though my form only collects a single name field) Why B2B contacts used role-based emails (info@, hello@, etc.) How my internal workflows operate How leads are processed internally All contacts were first-party, permission-based, and obtained through legitimate business channels. No purchased or scraped data was used. Instead of relying on standard industry indicators (complaints, bounce rates, engagement, unsubscribe rates), the platform relied on subjective manual reviews and repeated documentation requests. This created delays, uncertainty, and business risk. At some point, continuing would have required disclosing sensitive internal company processes just to send lawful campaigns. Recommendation EmailOctopus may be suitable for hobby projects or very small personal lists. For professional, B2B, or client-facing email marketing, I cannot recommend it due to unpredictable compliance enforcement and excessive operational interference. They aren't always hounding me to upgrade, which is refreshing. Could I handle prettier emails? Sure, but I don't feel that's top priority for me right now. The priority is getting something written and out to my list. In fact, keeping it simple with their drag and drop method gets me in and out of the platform fast and allows me to get back into my studio and onto the things that drive my business... making my paintings. Pros To be honest, the thing I like most is that EmailOctopus is free. As a small art business, I watch costs very closely. I like that my account with EmailOctopus will grow only as I grow. As I grow my list, which means I have more opportunity to earn more, then I don't mind paying for features that I'll probably need down the line. Also, it's a simple to use platform which I appreciate. I have easy access to my data (my list). Another thing that I like is that they implement a verification process to get into my account. It's simple and fast yet gives a sense of protection that I want. Cons Some things I like least about EmailOctopus would be that I don't have access to my data reports for each individual campaign for very long. I think it's 2 weeks. However, they do give you the option to download them as a csv which is nice. You just need to catch it in time and download. Of course if you upgrade to a paid version you have access to your data at any time. Not having long term access is a price I'm willing to pay at the moment. The emails are fairly simple to make, however as a past graphic designer, I find myself wondering why the platform won't do a certain thing design wise but it's never been a big deal. From importing subscribers and designing newsletters, to the reliablity of the actual sending of emails. We are utilising the email marketing and hope to start email campaigns very soon. We are also able to take advantage of the data management components, allowing us to keep track of our donors, volunteers, and students for individualized campaign marketing opportunities. Pros EmailOctopus is a great and flexible platform that has worked well for my small but growing organization. The User Interface is friendly and very easy to navigate. I also like that they have tier packages, so when our time comes to graduate from free, we have options, making it a great start-up value for the money. Cons Thus far, I have not encountered any obstacles with EO that I haven't been able to find a workaround for or received support and excellent help with.
