They aren't always hounding me to upgrade, which is refreshing. Could I handle prettier emails? Sure, but I don't feel that's top priority for me right now. The priority is getting something written and out to my list. In fact, keeping it simple with their drag and drop method gets me in and out of the platform fast and allows me to get back into my studio and onto the things that drive my business... making my paintings. Pros To be honest, the thing I like most is that EmailOctopus is free. As a small art business, I watch costs very closely. I like that my account with EmailOctopus will grow only as I grow. As I grow my list, which means I have more opportunity to earn more, then I don't mind paying for features that I'll probably need down the line. Also, it's a simple to use platform which I appreciate. I have easy access to my data (my list). Another thing that I like is that they implement a verification process to get into my account. It's simple and fast yet gives a sense of protection that I want. Cons Some things I like least about EmailOctopus would be that I don't have access to my data reports for each individual campaign for very long. I think it's 2 weeks. However, they do give you the option to download them as a csv which is nice. You just need to catch it in time and download. Of course if you upgrade to a paid version you have access to your data at any time. Not having long term access is a price I'm willing to pay at the moment. The emails are fairly simple to make, however as a past graphic designer, I find myself wondering why the platform won't do a certain thing design wise but it's never been a big deal. In that experience, I had never encountered this level of operational intrusion. After onboarding, importing my list, and preparing campaigns, my campaign was placed on hold for manual review. EmailOctopus later confirmed that my campaign did not violate any compliance rule. Despite this, they manually opened and reviewed my private campaign content and initiated an extended investigation into my internal business processes, lead acquisition methods, and data structure. They questioned: Why some contacts did not have “first names” (even though my form only collects a single name field) Why B2B contacts used role-based emails (info@, hello@, etc.) How my internal workflows operate How leads are processed internally All contacts were first-party, permission-based, and obtained through legitimate business channels. No purchased or scraped data was used. Instead of relying on standard industry indicators (complaints, bounce rates, engagement, unsubscribe rates), the platform relied on subjective manual reviews and repeated documentation requests. This created delays, uncertainty, and business risk. At some point, continuing would have required disclosing sensitive internal company processes just to send lawful campaigns. Recommendation EmailOctopus may be suitable for hobby projects or very small personal lists. For professional, B2B, or client-facing email marketing, I cannot recommend it due to unpredictable compliance enforcement and excessive operational interference. I came over from GoDaddy whose newsletter is complicated and limited. They make you look really good. You should send them a thank you letter. I was with Mail Chimp before that and for some reason they started to want to charge me. I don't even have 200 emails yet it doesn't make sense to pay. I have been really impressed with y'all and am truly grateful for your service. Pros I like that it's intuitive and easy to figure out how to use. I am also really impressed by being able to see who opened it, who clicked through and the times. I have told a few friends about this. Cons I haven't been able to figure out how to move the landing page to my website yet and I don't like the button to sign up being purple. It doesn't go with my website colors. From importing subscribers and designing newsletters, to the reliablity of the actual sending of emails. So far it has been a joy to use and at some point I will go on the paid plan. Pros I have used other platforms, but I wasn't satisfied with the quality and ease of use. Also, the service provided is very good and very secure. Currently I am on the free plan, but when my email list grows, I will consider a paid plan. The data and analytics are also easy to work with. Cons I have no cons to report. In the beginning there was some learning, but this is not a con as anything new has a learning curve. At first I was worried I might need analytics, which EmailOctopus does not offer, but information about who opens an email is saved for two weeks, which is more than enough to understand how people received it and why an email might not have been opened. Pros EmailOctopus is simple and has everything I need to keep in touch with my followers. It's a great tool for busy people who want to get stuff done and don't want to get caught up in all the "little things" competitors offer. And it's free! Cons Sometimes, moving blocks of text and images around can be buggy and/or difficult, especially on long newsletters. It makes my job easier, helps me create professional emails, and gets our communications delivered in an effective manner. Pros EmailOctopus is wonderful! I love how user-friendly the experience is. It is a wonderful tool to design and get emails out to our community list, and the insights into campaigns are helpful. We've had great open rates since switching to this platform. Cons When working in the email design area, I'd like to have a way to minimize the sidebar tools so that the screen only shows the email design. I like to see the whole picture centered when reviewing content. However, this isn't a big issue since I can easily send a test email to myself to review. Plus, you can use Amazon Mail to send. Also very good support Cons What did I like least about EmailOctopus? Can't think of any off the top of my head.
