Simple, easy to customise and send your email campaigns. Doesn't slow your website with a WordPress plugin. Probably the best-priced email platform you'll find online.

Pros

I like the simplicity of the platform. Easy to navigate and not complicated. It has a great pricing structure, the best I've found so far.

Cons

You have to enter your email each time you want to send a campaign. Free for up to 2500 subscribers which was great but now a competitor has 10000.

Pros

It's free for my needs, it was easy, and it has templates that were simple for me to figure out.

Cons

Making a template \*before\* starting a campaign almost hung me up, but now that I know, I know!

Reason for choosing EmailOctopus

Beehiiv wouldn't import my list, I kept getting errors. And they didn't have much for email templates.

It was really complicated, always having issues with having too many emails but most of them weren't subscribers. I had exceeded the free plan by 23 and removing the hundreds of cleaned addresses was such a hassle.

I would like to have more design options for the newsletter. In particular, I'd like to see more fonts available and be able to embed, rather than link, videos.

Hi Mark, thanks for leaving us a review. Happy to hear you find EmailOctopus easy to use – this was definitely one of our main goals! Regarding your feedback on design options – we're actually revamping our editor as we speak, and you'll see some more options very shortly. That said, when it comes to the features you mentioned, our limitations are not arbitrary – they are dictated by the constraints of how emails are rendered in mailboxes. For instance, most web fonts only work in fewer than 50% of mailboxes, so even if we were to add them, they wouldn't render in the email you send to your subscribers. Similarly, with video content – most email clients don't support rendering videos directly in the mailbox, and they would open them in a new tab anyway. So to avoid display and deliverability issues, we follow best industry practices. However, we keep our eyes peeled for any updates, and if more email clients start supporting those options, we'll definitely look into adding them, too ;)

Pros

Email Octopus is easy to get started and has useful DIY options for theming.

Cons

It took a little extra time to figure out what the required tags were when using a custom theme.

Just a small note regarding fonts – at the moment, custom fonts aren't supported by many email clients, which means your emails won't look the same in someone's mailbox. To prevent display issues, we recommend using standard fonts, but we'll definitely offer more fonts once they're more widely supported by email clients. Easy to set things up. Also liked that we can automate email sending and use own own domains.

I'd really appreciate if the email composer had Markdown support, so I could save time composing a mail with the same text of a blog post file, this way the layout of both would remain almost the same.

I love that it's easy to use, has all the features we need without low limits on numbers of campaigns or automation, etc.

Pros

EmailOctopus is flexible in their pricing. Instead of suddenly breaking into an expensive category because of additional subscribers, EmailOctopus has a gentler system. They even reduce the charge if you lose subscribers! Perfect for someone like me with a modest budget.

Cons

The dashboard was a little bit difficult to negotiate at first, and the emails hard to design until I got the knack--now it's not hard at all.

Reason for choosing EmailOctopus

A friend was using it.

Very happy with Email Octopus. Previously I used a different platform, but their limitations meant that I out grew them. Email Octopus doesn't have those limitations. I am glad I found them!

Pros

Ease of campaign generation, updating email lists and helpful articles makes using Email Octopus smooth. Being able to revisit old campaigns to track opens and clicks as well as being able to use old campaigns as a template is really useful.

Cons

Slow learning curve to start with, but the help pages and tips cleared things up for me.

Pros

We just needed an easy-to-use method for sending regular newsletters. The process for uploading lists and campaigns is clear and uncluttered. Campaigns are easy to build and offer enough customisations for our requirements. There is also comprehensive reporting. The whole service has provided exactly what we need to send out bulk emails to our subscribers.

Cons

I have no complaints about the EmailOctopus service.
