The final images were professional--and deflection results were clear to even the least confident technical person. I'm excited such a great system exists--and disappointed that it is only a larger package I really don't have time to learn--and really have no way to purchase. Big companies aren't great with monthly fees. Kindly note: this feedback represents my personal opinion and does not represent the opinion of Johnson & Johnson in any way. Pros Knowing the cross-section of my part, I quickly sketched this as a 2D section; knowing the supports and loads & material, I easily entered these and quicly had flexure/deformation/yield results that ballparked my design. I usually do this with a sketch, looking up things I don't know--but in the small part of this package that I used, I intuitively entered data, showed the effect of height changes, and shared out the path toward solution. FAST & EASY--I didn't need instructions. Cons I'm a mechanical engineer--most times I am not creating a structure--but often in automation I'm optimizing strength/weight/form/size; and even more often I'm trying to explain WHY to managers or less technical engineers. This software was ideal--but it does not seem available as just a simple beam tool. When I looked at purchase, I need to buy a subscription to a much larger package--when really I just need the most basic bits. Pros I'm a mechanical engineer, not a structural one, but Skyciv let me ease into the game of structural design by providing a tool that lets me check my work very quickly, confirming or denying my designs without the need of a full structural engineering skill set. Cons Some parts are hard to grasp, and seem awkward, I have to consider I'm not a structural engineer, and one would expect some level of misunderstanding and complexity would be normal in a new field, and so i feel that Skyciv let me move with alacrity and ease, which i suspect would not have been possible other ways. Even though I was only on a trial plan and made it clear that this was a one-off project, and I was not likely to buy a subscription the support was still attentive to my early-user needs. Pros It seems to cover almost any design challenge you may need to deal with. Cons As a casual user, the monthly price is a bit steep. However, if I had any regular recurring need for this kind of software in a business environment the price would be reasonable.
