Overview

### What problems does Updox solve?

Updox solves disconnected patient communication, paper-heavy document workflows, and inefficient telehealth setup by combining secure messaging, video visits, e-faxing, forms, and EHR-linked records in one system. Answer based on 60 reviews

### Which third-party tools and platforms does Updox integrate with?

Updox integrates with Practice Fusion and Amazing Charts, with reviewer-confirmed connections focused on EHR workflows. Answer based on 44 reviews

Getting Started and Support

### What customer support options does Updox offer, and how do users rate the experience?

Updox offers email/help desk, a knowledge base, phone support, and chat. Users describe mixed support experiences: some report clear online instructions, brief waits, returned calls, and helpful staff, while others cite slow responses, difficulty reaching a live person, unresolved issues, weak follow-through, and frustration around cancellations and contracts.

Answer based on 30 reviews

Security

### How does Updox handle data security and access control?

Updox uses secure portal messaging, HIPAA-compliant sharing, secure texting, electronic faxing, and telehealth tools that help protect patient information while maintaining care. Reviewers also note limits: broadcast messaging is not HIPAA compliant, user security settings can be difficult to configure, shared credentials can happen, and video visits may disconnect.

Answer based on 14 reviews

Faxing

### How well does Updox handle faxing for medical offices?

Updox handles everyday medical faxing well by replacing paper workflows with digital sending, receiving, tagging, and archiving. Many clinics like the easy EMR integration, document editing, and remote access, while some teams run into fax failures, slow performance, page limits, limited routing options, and weak outage communication.

Stay away from Updox. It's not worth the money. They raised their prices from $799 to $2400 in 3 years.

Pros

Not too much. They had a small page limit on faxing. We experienced daily fax fails. Staff reported a lack of support when the product was down.

Cons

The product was frequently inoperable. Their contract is unreasonable. They have a very small window for termination and if you are late by 18 days, they will hold you to 1 year of payments.

Honestly, for the most part, it has been ok....until it is not. Then they are not at all helpful with fixes or responsiveness. Now, send them an email that you want to cancel your service and they are all over that.

Pros

When it works, it works well enough, problem is that is not often enough and getting customer service response is tough.

Cons

1\. Customer service....you cannot call and get a human to help with an issue right away, you have to try to get on a schedule for a zoom meeting and if you are tied up with real office work/issues during that time, you have to start the process over, meaning you have items that need to be placed in patient charts that won't work just hanging out in the inbox. 2. CONTRACTS automatically renew without an "out" and they do not allow you to buy out your contract. We are paying about $600/month for a service we do not want any longer and they are making us pay 7 more months for the pleasure of doing business. Very frustrating. 3. Price sold at the beginning of our business with them was great, but when they increased, it went up 500%. 4. When they have an outage (which seems to happen with regularity), it literally cripples our office.

Products are fair. your messages may be censored without you knowing, customer service is OK and "Leadership" believes they are untouchable, will never talk to you and could care less about the customer

Pros

ability to communicate with patients more quickly

Pretty good value as an ad-on to Practice Fusion. The two systems offer some of the best value when it comes to medical software for a practice.

Pros

The integration with Practice Fusion is pretty good. The Updox module allows a queue for TXT messages and faxes, which then can be worked on. It's a good communication tool for scheduling, interacting with patients efficiently and quickly.

Cons

There is still some work involved as far as working the queue but there is no magic wand that can do this automatically.

Fair. It does what was promised. It rarely goes down completely but lately has been very slow

Pros

Tight integration with our EMR for fast uploads to charts.

Cons

It’s 2024 and all faxes are converted to PDF. Why isn’t the text searchable? Why can’t we build rules to forward specific senders or cover sheets to specific queues. Feel like Updox is often sluggish or slow for no reason.

Dismal at best. Waste of time at worst. Not worth the cost. Very disappointing. Disrespectful by only responding emails several days later

Pros

Nothing. Can’t be expressed in other words. There is nothing to like about a company which shows no appreciation for its customers

Cons

Horrendous customer service . No appreciation for customer’s time. It’s just a matter of time before a class action lawsuit is brought against this company
