Cons User interface where we have to click and click to get to the main thing we are looking for. Risk module not publishing PDF to be shared with stakeholders, Audit module looks outdated where the similar products in the market have better interface. Cons The implementation was a little bit long to ensure all end users were adequately trained. However, the customer support is perfect. Cons The implementation can feel rushed; by the time you are starting to understand the system (infocard structures, etc.) you need to make business critical decisions on configuration that can have consequences. The 2025 Summit is my second summit attending and I’ve learned so much more about what MC can do than I knew possible! Pros I use MasterControl Qx all day in my role as a Quality supervisor. The document management was the first piece we rolled out. It is so helpful to have access to the vaults (draft, released, and archived). The collaboration step is beneficial to allow multiple inputs at the same time. Cons The portion I like the least is likely more on our behalf as a company than on MasterControl. The setting up of roles and job codes has been less than ideal. The department that initially set these up phased out and unfortunately took all their knowledge with them. It’s made our processes more efficient and has really helped during audits and inspections. That said, it did take time to get everything up and running, and I had to rely on support quite a bit in the beginning. But once you get past that, it becomes a really reliable tool that makes your day-to-day work a lot easier. Pros What I like most about MasterControl Quality Excellence is how organized and secure it makes everything. Document control is very solid — we never have to worry about version confusion or audit trails anymore. The automated workflows for things like change control and CAPAs save a lot of time and reduce the back-and-forth emails. Once it’s set up right, it helps keep everything running smoothly. Cons The hardest part was definitely the initial setup and learning curve. It’s not super intuitive at first, and unless you have someone to walk you through it, it can feel a bit overwhelming. Cons Because they have a lot of different customers sometimes the common denominator wins out so there are some features that may not be perfect for your situation. I know it has a lot of potentials but the way the complaint module is built limits a fast growing group like mine to properly manage our complaints. Pros I think MC is great with being able to add other modules like CAPA/NC/Complaints. This gives you the ability to link those investigation together. Cons It’s slow and seems to crash a lot. I am mostly in the Complaint modules and it was ok for a small team with under 500 complaints but as my team grows and our numbers increases, MC is harder to navigate and divid up work. Pros They provide a well implemented approach to document and training. I have had the full experience of being a newcomer and they supported me through all of my questions. Top notch customer support for my needs. Cons Due to the mass amount of services offered it can be quite daunting and confusing when you start out. You will eventually grow accustomed to it, but it isn't easy. Also, there are some pretty intuitive things that you would think you could do that you can't. Many of them are in the works and will be addressed in the future, but right now we have to find workarounds. User friendly. Documents are readily available and easy to track revisions. The collaboration step does seem to confuse some new users however gets easier with time. The compliance piece helps keep everything organized and documentation available during audits. Cons It’s a work in progress and can sometime have some glitches, this is normal in my opinion.
