### "Reliable Quality Management, but Implementation Can Be Challenging"

February 16, 2026

4.0

MasterControl Qx is a solid and compliance‑focused quality management system that delivers strong collaboration and form management features. However, the platform could benefit from improved usability, quicker bug resolution, and more competitive pricing. It’s a great fit for organizations with strict regulatory requirements and structured internal processes.

Pros

What I liked most about MasterControl Quality Excellence is its strong focus on compliance and its ability to streamline collaboration across teams. The system provides clear, structured workflows that support efficient task management and full traceability. I especially appreciate the ready‑to‑use digital forms, which are already designed around industry‑standard processes and allow teams to start working immediately without lengthy configuration.

Cons

The main limitations I experienced with MasterControl Quality Excellence are related to usability and system stability. The interface can feel unintuitive for new users, requiring more training than expected to become fully comfortable. Additionally, some modules still show occasional bugs or inconsistent behaviors that slow down daily operations and require follow‑up with support. Implementation can also be time‑consuming due to the complexity of the platform and the level of coordination needed across teams.

Reason for choosing MasterControl Quality Excellence

I chose MasterControl Quality Excellence because it offers a strong balance between functionality and value for money. Compared to other solutions, it provides ready‑to‑use, industry‑standard workflows and forms that reduce implementation time and costs

### "Constant support, continuous Improvment, a few kinks to work out "

October 8, 2025

4.0

So far, it's been good. There are some areas that are extremely painful to work through but it's comforting to know that mastercontrol is aware and that there is constantly a plan to continue improving the products. The support that we have received (including summit) to me is invaluable.

Pros

I like the connectivity of the modules and that mastercontrol is constantly improving. The different options and features are consistently offering more value, if you're ready to invest in your company.

Cons

The different modules work slightly different depending on who developed them. Sometimes the most basic of functionality is not considered when making a product and then it can take quite a while to get that fix developed and released. Example, customization of task list, adding a star to favorite your documents from the document list instead of the infocard, not having a prefiltered supplier list, or even favoriting the most recent version of the document and making that a dynamic link not static with the version favorited.

### "Some Modules Work Better Than Others "

October 7, 2025

3.0

I do like that the modules work together or can be linked for easy traceability. Document module works well and consistently with no or few errors.

Pros

I love the idea of the system. The document module works great! Building workflows in Docs and AQEM is very easy and flexible.

Cons

There are inconsistencies. The workflows are great but there are some bugs/defects in AQEM that need resolved. Insights needs to be simplified for use. Training is fine but there is room for improvement.

### "Do not overcomplicate configuration"

May 21, 2026

Pros

The customer support team really tries to work with you to solve issues. It is nice that our throughput time has decreased significantly now that we have moved away from paper.

Cons

How it was set up by our company. Could have done with easier configuration since too many user groups and roles.

### "QMS mostly done right"

October 7, 2025

After 13 years of working with MasterControl, I like the ability MasterControl rolls everything up together.

Pros

I really like how document revisions trigger training courses. Also the ease of keeping track of collaboration steps.

Cons

That aQMS is not available on the FedRamp server. FBS forms require too much customization by services to make using them a very pricey item.

### "Game changer for any mid to large scale operation"

October 7, 2025

4.0

As a Quality Director in the medical devices industry, I’ve overseen the use of MasterControl’s Qx platform for document control over the past year. In a sector where regulatory compliance (e.g., 21 CFR Part 11, ISO 13485) is paramount, Qx has revolutionized how we manage our extensive library of SOPs, work instructions, and batch records. It’s more than a storage solution—it’s a dynamic system that integrates document workflows into our broader QMS, streamlining operations and bolstering audit readiness.

Pros

Qx has transformed our document control, turning a reactive process into a proactive strength. We’ve saved hundreds of hours on manual tasks in just one year, freeing up resources for strategic priorities like product innovation.

Cons

User adoption initially was slow to implement. Barrier to entry was challenging at first but once set up it made life easier.

### "QMS Toolkit"

October 7, 2025

The learning curve & upskilling is manageable for most users as when they are dedicated resources The implementation and application should be fitted to medium to large regulated businesses who have dedicated resources.

Pros

QUALITY COMPLIANCE The platform is a robust resource to anchor your QMS documentation. Training features can be added for ease of managing training.

Cons

SEARCH is not consistent or inaccurate CUSTOMER SUPPORT requires dedicated resources EASE OF USE is time intensive DOCUMENT MANAGEMENT requires dedicated resources COLLABORATION requires dedicated resources The use cases, types of end users and user frequency is generally quite diverse & learning curve is a designed barrier that limits successful user adoption and transfer of best practices into the QMS.

It was okay; but just acceptable. There were a lot of challenges that came with use of the system. It was a bit clunky and outdated.

Pros

Cons

Constant required updates were a challenge. We found a lot of bugs and their customer service was lacking for the overall cost.

### "Quality Management Made Easy "

5.0

Having been in the industry for a “minute” having performed quality operations both paper based and electronic. The ability to systematically create workflows

Pros

MasterControl enables quality professionals the ability to do information technology initiatives with minimal support from information technology / systems

Cons

The difficulty of onboarding / off-boarding of associates with multiple task pending. Also how the reports are silo based. This has been litigated by insights.

### "MasterControl Quality Excellence for Life Sciences"

July 25, 2025

3.0

We've been a MasterControl customer for over 20 years. While the system can work well when initially implemented, it lacks the flexibility to evolve with a growing or changing business. Over time, this leads to accumulating technical debt and diminishing returns. The recent shift to cloud hosting has introduced additional friction, making previously simple tasks more complex or requiring engagement with their services team for additional fees. Historically, with on-prem deployment and concurrent licensing, the system provided good value for money as it offered more flexibility in using the system and designing custom integrations. With the cloud and licensing model changes, we've seen a dramatic increase in licensing fees, while simultaneously losing the ability to implement custom solutions and assign user rights freely. The changes force us to redesign and restructure the system and our processes around their pricing constraints rather than process efficiency. The transition to named user licenses has been deeply disruptive. The model is fundamentally misaligned with how users engage with the system, especially within the Process module, and directly breaks some of our core quality workflows. Restoring functionality under the new model would require a significant financial investment, amounting to nearly a 300% increase in our costs just to maintain parity with the on-prem setup. For long-term customers, this feels less like a product evolution and more like a forced upsell. Although MasterControl has made major investments in developing a next-generation platform, it feels like this has come at the expense of maintaining and improving the current system. Longtime customers are left with aging infrastructure, limited documentation, and training materials that often fall short of demonstrating how to use the system effectively and in a configurable way. As someone familiar with the architecture and database structure, it’s clear that some foundational aspects of the platform stray from modern best practices. While this may explain the decision to rebuild rather than refine, it does little to help existing customers who still rely on the legacy system for critical operations. Better support, accurate documentation, and a genuine commitment to helping customers succeed with the platform as it exists today would go a long way.

Pros

\- Strong audit trail and compliance features help meet regulatory requirements such as 21 CFR Part 11 and EU Annex 11. - Provides a unified platform for document management, training, and electronic forms across quality processes. - Includes validation documentation and protocols that can ease system adoption and regulatory readiness. - The Process module is highly powerful for organizations with the expertise to build and maintain custom business processes with web technology (HTML, JS, CSS); otherwise, support or pre-built templates are typically required to get the most out of it. - The Customer Café provides a space for knowledge-sharing and collaboration across the user community. - With the right configuration and internal ownership, MasterControl can serve as the backbone of a quality management system. - Recent product development efforts are the most significant in years and show promise. Many of the current challenges may be growing pains as the platform evolves.

Cons

\- Support is slow to respond and often unwilling to address known issues. - Updates are unpredictable and often introduce new issues. - The shift to named user licensing has disrupted business-critical workflows and imposed significant increased cost to maintain the same functionality. - The move to cloud hosting reduces flexibility, eliminates some custom integration options, and forces design decisions around licensing rather than usability. - Implementation requires deep expertise. The system’s complexity and inconsistent documentation make it easy to create structures that become difficult to scale or maintain. Without careful planning, it can devolve into a digital repository that’s hard to navigate or utilize effectively. - User experience is poor. Updates sometimes reduce usability. Feedback from end users across departments is mostly negative. - Standard reports are unreliable and often blamed on a third-party. - Advanced reporting capabilities require purchasing an additional module, even though MasterControl has acknowledged limitations in the default reporting tools. - Documentation and training resources are often outdated or inaccurate, which can make onboarding and self-support more difficult. - Collaboration within the platform is limited and cumbersome. Many users resort to external tools for effective collaboration. - The system has a steep learning curve. Navigation is not intuitive, and even routine tasks often require multiple steps or significant system knowledge.

### "Rocking MasterControl "

October 7, 2025

Quality excellence is something close to my heart being in quality. It makes people and companies stay accountable to actions within the system to ensure quality excellence

Pros

Quality compliance is unmatched when using MasterControl QX modules. It makes keeping the companies within compliance while understanding in a routing process the steps needed to gain approvals an ensure standards are meant. Implementation is simple an easy with having consultants working side by side to make the document management & collaboration steps easy to follow.

Cons

No cons so far encounter with this product. HyperCare could have been managed better with how the hours where spilt.

### "QA Manager, Post Market Complaints "

October 7, 2025

3.0

I think MC for me has been a struggle. I know it has a lot of potentials but the way the complaint module is built limits a fast growing group like mine to properly manage our complaints.

Pros

I think MC is great with being able to add other modules like CAPA/NC/Complaints. This gives you the ability to link those investigation together.

Cons

It’s slow and seems to crash a lot. I am mostly in the Complaint modules and it was ok for a small team with under 500 complaints but as my team grows and our numbers increases, MC is harder to navigate and divid up work.

Despite the cons, MasterControl is essential for our document and quality event management. We house all the data in the eQMS, which makes it easy to retrieve. You can assign custom fields to further organize the infocards, and find time to search for what you need.

Pros

\-Easy to find documents -customizable forms -audit trails -Role based access control -Event trending and reports

Cons

Using Mastercontrol Qx has been positive overall, but their are some areas that can be improved greatly like their technical support.

Pros
