I truly don't know how we survived with old paper files and file cabinets. Pros My files are there when I need them. I don't worry about finding things, as the structure is easy to use. Cons It did take some time in the beginning of use to figure out how to structure folders for ease of use. Once that was done, we had no issues. Review Source Ryan M. I have used Box with multiple companies and it is so great. Pros I love that I can control who gets access which is really important to customer privacy. I also love that it keeps track of a history so you can always go back. It is like Github but more user friendly for non-programmers Cons There really isn't anything that I don't like about the software. Some of my company's settings have been problematic but nothing really huge. I wish there was easier transparency in exporting usage metrics, these are available but only for admins. Was able to add secure documents only visable to my team and visable to my overall company. Was able to edit documents and see edits from others and when. Pros Being in Recruiting, I was able to organize all my team's job descriptions easily and update them.Additionally, working closely with our payroll and ops team we were able to create how to documents to submit feedback and year-end reviews. Route Controller Transportation/Trucking/Railroad Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Box review " December 16, 2020 5.0 The other bonus is for example you can have a roster in Box that all staff have access to so due to staff sickness / Annual Leave booked -Spare shifts that have changed -Rest Days shift changes staff can check at home via Box and this is one of the major advantages meaning staff will be in the right place at the right time.I would recommend Box as a very useful addition to store documents that you want to share or keep private. Pros Box is a great way of keeping documents ,reports,files etc in one place and you can share them to other colleague's to edit or just to have read access only but you can send a personal link to them and once you have sighed up to Box which is easy to do, the other major advantage is that you can log into box form any pc work or personal so you always have access to it. Research projects take up a lot of time because of the amount of data that needs to be uploaded and analyzed. However, Box has enabled my team to effectively work together and independently while maintaining the ethical guidelines of research. Pros As a tutor and a researcher, I love being able to upload videos of lesson plans and lectures so that my team and those I am working for are able to look back on what I said. Another thing I love about Box is how you can share multiple files with anyone you want and you are able to view who has downloaded something to maintain privacy and confidentiality. Box is especially useful for big groups of people. Everything is extremely accessible and easy to learn how to use. I recommend Box to my colleagues in research who want a safe way of maintaining confidentiality in research projects. Cons I do not have any problems with Box so far and I have been using Box for most of my college experience. I have used it for research, tutoring, and collaboration projects. During that time we've gone from a limited POC to a large scale international rollout. We've found Box to be very responsive both from a support standpoint and in terms of listening to their customers regarding features and needs. The primary reason we initially chose Box was because of the outstanding security framework which was at the core of the initial offering and continues to be a key focus for Box. The management and governance features allowed us to roll it out to a geographically diverse group of employees with the assurance that their data would be secure and would remain secure. Our initial need was to centrally replicate data from an international location. Based on the success of that POC, we've been able to replicate that success in a number of international locations and delay or eliminate the need for physical systems and storage that had previously been a part of our technology deployment. Pros Security is still my favorite feature - I have the confidence that our data is secure and will remain secure. Box meets a number of US based and international security regulations and data compliance requirements, Box makes governance and compliance easy. Notifications based on file changes or folder changes have allowed us to create "instant workflows" to quickly move data from a variety of locations in the hands of a number of users. This has allowed us to create a system where data is not only securely stored, but able to be quickly acted upon by a geographically diverse group of staff. Rolling Box seats out to new users is easy, and Box makes a wide variety of training materials available to its users to help them leverage the features. Cons There's not much to dislike - the feature set is good and continues to grow. If there is a downside, it is that - like all cloud based solutions - connectivity is required, and that can sometimes be a challenge for my organization is some of the remote international locations where we work. Research Programmer Computer Software Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Very straightforward" September 23, 2019 5.0 I use Box Sync pretty much for two purposes, though perhaps they're not the target use cases the developers had in mind! 1) I use it to send files to myself between computers. I have a desktop and a laptop, and it's a convenient way to share large files between the two. For small files, I often use email, but that has size limits. With Box, I can just upload a file on my laptop, then immediately go to my Desktop and download it. Easy peasy! It's even more convenient than using a flash drive. 2) I use it for sharing collaborative files, i.e. PowerPoint presentations that I'm giving with multiple presenters. It's not perfect, but it's the best way that I've found for keeping large PPTs, with multiple presenters, in sync (when I want to use PowerPoint and not Google Slides). I coordinate with the other people so that only one of us is working at a time, and when the one person is done and their changes are uploaded, the next person can take a turn at making edits. PowerPoint does have "auto-sync" functionality but I've found that using this Box method is even better! Pros The software is very straightforward to use. It's a simple interface. In its most basic form, it's just a place you can upload, download, and share files. If you are a (slightly) more advanced user, you can set up "Box Sync" so that a folder on your computer automatically syncs with Box. This is awesome to use as an automatic backup! Cons There's not much to dislike, but if I had to nitpick, it takes too menu menus and clicks to do things like (1) delete a file, (2) share a file, and (3) sync a file/folder. These are pretty much the only three things that I ever want to do, but they are hidden behind like 3-4 clicks and menu options. Switched from [Dropbox Paper](https://www.capterra.com/p/188157/Dropbox-Paper/) I made the switch because my work provides free Box accounts to employees. It's a very similar concept to Dropbox, I don't think I would have made the switch by myself, and I honestly don't think there is much difference between the two products. Pros The most important feature is document storage, collaboration and permissions. This allows the admin to control who can access and edit what documents. Cons Quick folder previews would be amazing, like thumbnail images of the file contents, but this is lacking in Box. Instead, you need to preview a file one at a time. We will eventually move all data offsite. Pros The install of the Box tools and client was simple to automate. The administration of permissions was straightforward. Box, once installed, appears like another folder in Windows Explorer. Cons We needed to engage our account reps as pricing was a bit convoluted at first. Escalation of a support ticket can be cumbersome. I have had not issues that I can think of. Box Sync is being phased out \[YES!\] in favor of Box Drive, which is their new file streaming service. I love how even though with Box Drive, the files are not actually on my computer, they are available instantly as needed. It is the exact same feature, but much better implemented in my opinion than OneDrive Files On-Demand and Google Drive File Stream provide. Pros Ease of use. It is simple, whatever is in your Box Drive folder is what is on Box. It is very easy to share files with others. Files are safe, and I would recommend them to anyone. Cons Some users have to use a secure DAV connection, and Box severely throttles DAV connections. Moving files around using this takes a lot of time, BUT it does work for now. Pros When I heard the name BOX for the first time, I thought it was the same as other software. I noticed the difference on first use and when I backed up my files. It has a user-friendly interface after a very simple installation. You start using it instantly with a folder it creates on your local computer. You can instantly access and manage your data with any browser in the online environment. It has a simple, practical, easy and fast system. Apart from classical backups and file sharing, you can easily manage your business with many more add-ons in the BOX applications center. Many add-ons such as Google , Microsoft , Zoom can be added and used instantly. You can create your own collections as well as create a task list. It also accelerates your other flexible and business processes in the Notes section. Cons Depending on your internet speed, you may sometimes experience synchronization issues. Although it is not related to this software, it can leave a bad impression on the user. It has a great user-community and hence, it becomes a trustworthy software. You can easily share files/folders with your peers. Overall, I am satisfied with this. Pros Box is very easy to use and navigate. Sharing of large files with your peers have become easy since I started using Box. It has great security feature. Box allows you to create folders of different project and you can easily save all related files of that project in a folder. This helps in keeping all your files/documents in an organized and systematic manner. Cons The dashboard interface of Box is not much user-friendly. In fact, it feels little outdated. Search functionality of Box is not great to use. I find it difficult to look for stored documents in Box. I am not satisfied with the customer support team of Box. They take a while to resolve the queries. It also takes time to upload and download the documents using Box. You need to have strong internet connection while using Box. Pros What I like most about the software is it gives you immediate 10 GB plus of space which is a huge storage for me who only saves documents and a few photos. Cons I hope the Trash folder is available to see in tablets too so if I need to be quick in recoving files and my laptop is not with me, I can use my tablet to accomplish this. I don't see it any different from dropbox and google drive. The biggest benefit is that multiple users can use/access the project files at the same time. Pros I use it for work and all our projects' files and folders are on Box Sync now and really like that the changes made by each collaborator are reflected on the cloud and can be seen by other users. Also, i can access the files from anywhere with my credentials Cons It works great but I don't see any use of the Message tool. Not sure about the use of it. Also allows of editing files online in real-time so multiple people can work on spreadsheets at the same time and the data remains accurate. Cons The favorites bar on the side sometime gets lost.
