The free plan was good but we moved to Business because that's what we needed it for. So the mobile apps are good, desktop sync is instant and there are no hiccups involving security, privacy, sync, uploads and management Cons You can't really move your main folder of storage once it has been set up. I initially wanted it on Drive D, now I wish to move it, but Box doesn't allow it. I will need to uninstall and then reinstall the whole damn thing for the shift to take place. Dropbox didnt have this problem. Yes I use both. Pros Box is clean, easy to use, and has all of the storage, permissions and sharing features that a small business owner could want. They make it easy to set up new folders, upload files, etc. through the API, as well as to create an upload page for clients. Cons My only complaint with Box is the 3 user minimum for the purposes of the subscription. In order to get the features that I want, I need to pay for 3 users, when I only need one. However, the pricing should be on par with GoogleDrive and Dropbox and other cloud storage services. Pros Box is highly effective in sharing and storing large files , which is of tremendous help for biological research purposes. The ability to collaborate with teammates in a seamless fashion has bought up a paradigm shift in data storage . The unprecedented utility of rapidly uploading huge files are of incredible aid , for the denizens in the scientific research community . Cons Box is facing stiff competition with Microsoft Teams and DropBox when it comes to storing large files, and Box needs to drive it’s capacity of beat it’s competitions. At times, Box can be quite slow in processing and uploading the documents. It was reliable at all times and served a great function for uploading critical information like timesheets, paystubs, statement of purposes etc. A pleasure overall. Pros The box provided a great authentication mechanism to store document on cloud. The team content was successfully uploaded to box and was made accessible to all team members. Any of the team member could successfully retrieve the document, manipulate it and upload it back when done. The permission of various folders within the box could be varied based on team needs. Cons Availability of internet is a core dependency to access any of the document, save the changes on cloud and upload the same. Part updates done and losing connection could induce misleading other members. There is not much of a learning curve to understand how save and store files. I also appreciate the sync feature, that allows for the folders to be accessed on my desktop without requiring a login to the site. Within my network, it has the best reputation for secure file storage. Cons The component of the Box platform that I like the least is the app center. While it is nice that you can connect Box to other programs, I wish that this section were simpler. I definitely will keep using it. Pros Packs a lot of functionalities even from the basic plan. Has many integrations. The support it's awesome and fast. It's very easy to use. They're constantly making improvements and new features. You can pay in your local currency. The version controls really works, not like google dos where you have million versions. Cons You can't lower the number of seats if you need to, you have to wait for the renovation date. When sharing outside of the organization the experiences its not grate for the client, it's confusing, many believe they have to create an account. They remove the google docs integration, only works now if you also pay for google apps, it doesn't make sense, since you are already paying for storage. I use it only for personal purposes and I've had this since as far back as 2014. There are so many storage options in the world these days that I cannot say Box is my first go to however. Google and Chrome have made storage amazingly simple. Pros I particularly like that the product has the ability to work with e-signatures, which can be vital when you work in certain industries. In addition, there are 4 price levels to choose from depending on your needs. ranging from as low as $5 but only as high as $25 per month. Of course, these levels offer various levels of GB storage, file upload ability, integration with Microsoft Office as well as G Suite, and more. These come in the form of apps that add on. You can even use Box while working in MS Teams and Zoom. Cons I cannot think of any cons. I use this as an additional layer of back up for documents I need/want to save. All of our team members and clients use box.com with ease. Pros Box.com is very easy to implement and use. It is great for sharing projects among a non-centralized team and clients. It is very simple to use, very intuitive, and has simplified our company's process of moving files around to the various team members involved. Cons We frequently get a message that our data allotment is full, even after we have cleared space and emptied old files. We have to reach out to customer service to run a script to clear the cache (so we can accurately see how much space we have left). Customer service is good on email, but very difficult to reach on the phone or by chat. Pros I started using Box in the early days, so I have a decent amount of free storage. It does everything you would need for a cloud storage app (very similar to Dropbox). I would Box is seen more as a business/enterprise cloud app vs Dropbox, although I think Egnyte is also very good as a Business/Enterprise cloud storage app. Cons I recently switched from a Windows PC to a Macbook Air w/ Apple's M1 chip and to my disappointment, despite the fact it's been months since the M1 chip has come out, Box is one of the few critical apps I use that has zero support for the M1 chip (I have not idea what they were waiting for all these months knowing it was coming). Their stock answer is to suggest to users to just use the web browser version as they don't have an ETA for the Box sync app for Mac O/S (M1 chip). March 10, 2022 5.0 Every backup is fundamental and important for personal and business use and Box has a very good, intuitive and friendly interface to organize documents by folder and subject. Syncing with the cloud is real-time and very fast on any device. Pros The Box system is an excellent alternative that I've been using to back up files and co-op documents every day from my notebook and smartphone from files I create and edit. I keep everything organized and I can access it from wherever I am and without worries of losing or being stolen because Box is a very secure cloud. Cons The cloud is secure and we have not yet had any reports of lost files saved in the cloud or theft of information. We don't have any negatives yet.
