Better than Dropbox....maybe even better than pCloud as their UI is a bit dated and odd?... Pros It does offer 10GB of storage for free versus Dropbox only offering 2GB for free. Cons The only next option is the 100GB plan and it's $10 a month whereas Google One offer the same 100GB plan for only $1.99 a month. Now, I realize the better security and privacy potentially offered with Box versus a "big brother" such as Google is what could warrant an increased price. However, I'm not sure it needs to increase that much. Plus, it's confusing how they have an indicudual pro plan for $10 a month and 100GB and then a starter business plan with the same storage for $5 a month. I don't understand that and I think things should be more clear and make more sense. Also, I'm having issues with Box Sync not working on my laptop. It just won't sync anymore other than the initial sync. I didn't feel like messing with it or dealing with customer service so I just uninstalled it from my laptop. I'm still trying to decide for sure which of the two (Box or pCloud) I will permanently use to transfer ALL of my data (pics and files) away from Google Drive and Google One onto one of these two platforms. pCloud does offer a huge storage option for a very good price so Box may want to look at that. They also offer security and privacy so I would think they are a very viable competitor to Box. The main reason I keep using Box is that it shows email encryption and secure file sharing. Pros Box is similar to Dropbox in terms of features and managements. There are many paid options. For me personally, I like the feature that it performs collaboration seamless, I can check or change documents any time. There are some obvious advantages, like Box offers a 14-day trail, has a simple content sharing management, and decreases the need of emails. As a cloud software, I am able to access my documents/ photos, videos, etc. online anywhere by just connecting to the internet. The storage backup is good, too. Box can recognize different types of files. Cons If I compare Box to the products of Apple, Microsoft, Google and Dropbox, then it is not significantly pleasant when you discuss the amount of storage. The file size is limited if syncing to the cloud server. Also, I had this problem sometimes that only part of the file was uploaded, which caused me to double check files after the backup. Overall i satisfied with this tool. Pros Easy to sync things from server and locally by the Box sync tool. Generally, other plugins could be added and used. The Sync action doesn't taking a lot of time (depends on the folder/amount of files to be synced). The sync can be implemented on a main folder or partially (on some of its content) Cons Box sync doesn't work on older Windows OS versions and should be supported. many times, I encounter with startup and connection errors. Previously I was saving all our client level reports in shared drive, by mistake some file might be deleted by any of the user. So we are missing with the reports during audit. To retrieve that data we need to work for hours. Once this box came into existence, we can easily track all the activities (i.e) Deletion, edit of reports. If it is deleted also, we can easily get that file back as it is a cloud data base. That way Box helps me personally a lot. Thanks!! Pros I liked the security service that is given for the file saved on the cloud data base. File encryption is awesome!!! Easy to afford. Easy to access the file saved on the Box. Cons Instead of 10GB free storage, they can increase the free storage space. Every day, I need to login the box after login the Citrix. So its waste of time. Not only that the features available in this software are very easy to use. Pros The BOX software is been using in our university with only the lectures. This is used as a shared drive in my university to share confidential files so this software does this job more securely without exposing these critical documents to other non-academic parties. Cons Some features in this software are confusing to some people, thus making it hard to work with it. Ot is better if this had a method to access the data online without going to the website and accessing them. Box is in a crowded space, with competition from the usual suspects (Dropbox, Google Drive, MS Onedrive and even Mega), but for all intents and purpose. If your organisation has already committed to it, then it is very good as unlike its competitors, it offers unlimited storage which can be boon these days with many companies being attracted to Box solely because of this key feature. Cons Box generally works well similar to its competitors, however if there is one negative it is such that the maximum file size is limited to 5GB, which is already quite a large limit which most companies that use Box shouldn't surpass (think typical collaboration documents (Word documents, spreadsheets, presentation/slides). I am able to manage this from my phone or laptop. Cons It's sometimes slow on hotpot, but great on wifi. Creating folders is easier on the desktop version but that is not a big deal. Pros Box is easy to use, we can transfer files easily from any device to Box. The app has easy File Sync option as well, where we do not need to upload files to Box but syncing is automated. The security is also good. You can add or remove people accessing the file. Cons I do not see it as a collaborative tool and the price is little more than Google Drive. August 7, 2018 5.0 Pros It is more secure than other cloud storage applications. Irrespective of the mobile device or operating system you use, the application syncs well with all of them. We get the entire control to decide ‘who can access what’. We get all the previous versions of a document. We can create folders and subfolders to organize our information. The searchability function is very powerful. You can even invite outside members to view a file by just sending them a link. Provides an ample number of integrations with other tools like the sales force, Microsoft office. The reporting features are great. You can easily track and find any document or blueprint of service operation from any device. Cons We don’t have much of negatives to right down here, but still, an improvement in the default settings would be awesome. The document viewer feature needs upgradation. Unavailability of features in the admin console is another pitfall. Even though reporting features are great if they could provide some advanced unique features that would be awesome! With the only unlimited storage option currently available on the market, it's great if you need to store lots of files, large files, or both. The sync app runs in the background automatically, and works across OSes without complaint. Cons I understand that companies need to grow and not stagnate, but Box is trying to chase everyone else by becoming a full-service business application suite. It's great at sync. We ge unlimited storage, file permission management, share with internal and external users. We also have very finer security control, excellent search options, and even preview tools. There is an integration with local desktop tool that automatically synchronizes the documents from local drive to box and viceversa. Assets are easily searchable and it’s easy to set usage restrictions as needed. Pros The product is easy to use and all your assets are easily searchable. Pretty standard document Manager /dam product. My favorite feature within the product is the box notes feature which allows you to easily start a note and collaborate within it with many other users simultaneously - think google docs. Cons Not many cons, main issue I can think of is that sometimes the the share links stop working because there is an auto-expiration date set and I don’t remember to change it to never expire or a user leaves the company and some of the old docs become inaccessible. July 8, 2018 4.0 Pros This is a easy to use web based system for storing documents. This online tool can be used across the organization for editing, Storage and Sharing the documents. Retrieval of stored documents is also comparatively simpler with its better search functionalities. Box provides most of the Document management System features like Versioning, Metadata, Download, Access control and many others. Box also allows to view most document formats directly with its improved viewer. Online editing or Sync up is also great feature where it allows one to directly edit the documents from their desktop with the Box desktop plugin installed and sync up online. Cons Box has most of the great features that any organization requires for their employees to quickly store and share documents. However, The Box document viewer is still need to improved as sometimes it does not opens up a document due to various reasons and also limitation for selected doc formats. I am currently using the free plat the moment as I transitioned a lot of my files to another service due to a large amount of data. However as I grow the other types of documents I am sure I will go back to paying again... Cons Not really anything I can say negative about it. Occasionally it take longer that it should to sync a file to one of the other computers in the office. It works like dropbox but it seems that sharing documents is much easier. Also, you can give different permissions to different people, so the granularity of the permissions is high. It being integrated with Word and PowerPoint is great when you are working together with a colleague on getting a presentation or a piece of documentation ready Pros It is easy to use and allows you to share documents with your colleagues. Also, you can edit these documents live online so it is useful when getting documentation or a presentation ready. It is integrated with word and powerpoint so modifying these types of documents is very straight-forward. Cons When sharing documents with other organizations, things get messy and it is not clear (at least for me and other colleagues) how to do it properly. So the pros outweigh the cons, and Box seems to always be active working toward improving their product. I've implemented Box Business/Enterprise for three companies, and users definitely benefited from the collaborative system, even when using only the base features. Pros The Box platform works, and does what it says it will do. Live online training is especially helpful for bringing on new users, and there are numerous pre-recorded tutorials and white papers. No excuses for users to not understand how the platform works. System is flexible for businesses needing to meet international security, medical compliance, etc. Cons Navigating all admin options can be a little daunting. The default settings are probably 'right' for Enterprise users, but for a small business I had to invest a little time with tech support to get the settings right so that my users couldn't make changes that affected the monthly cost. The Box business (from their sales, support, features) are strongly designed for large customers, not for a freelancer working with clients (examples: minimum 3 users, automated 'Relay' workflows Enterprise only.)
