Instructional Designer E-Learning Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "Using Box in Blackboard" September 26, 2019 4.0 I heard Box is looking to add more annotation features/options so overall I am happy we have it integrated into our LMS. It certainly is making grading easier for me and other faculty. Pros I like the previews that Box renders in Blackboard for quick grading/scanning. It sure saves time on since you don't have to download a document. I LOVE that with Box you can annotate documents using an iPad and the Apple pencil. It makes grading super convenient and easy--no having to print papers to write on them! Cons I don't think there are enough customization options--for example, it would be nice to be able to use more than one color for grading annotations. Also, they took the highlighter feature away and sometimes the comment box is glitchy and hard to get to. Review Source MG Mithun G. Pros Storing documents and sharing it with others is very easy. The ease of upload is also a pros for this tool. You can easily sync the documents to desktop for offline access. Cons I feel it is too free form. There has to be a structure to the document storage. For example Meeting Minutes and Design documents should not be at the same location. In other words searching on a document or exploring a document should be very easy, which is not the case now according to me. Pros It is a good way to keep track of project documents between two or more organizations. Folder structure and features work well for most industries. But it depends on your storage needs. Pros Everything works simply and easily as you would expect to store and move around your documents. The UI looks sharp and is intuitive. I love how simple it is to connect Office365 to box. You can save directly to box from Word, Excel, etc. This cuts down on the amount of storage needed on your computer. Pros I love that box allows me to collaborate with individuals outside my unit as well as others outside of my organization. Things are kept in the cloud and it cuts down on the need for emails with every changed document. This also helps to prevent someone from using the not so recent version of a document. I can create folders within folders to keep everything organized. Cons The search feature could be advanced a little more. April 10, 2019 5.0 Pros I used Box for a non-profit I started a few years back and it was an excellent fit for us. They offered a better plan for non-profits than any of the competitors (although maybe this has changed?). It's easy to get setup and use and I really like how seamlessly our team was able to share files and communicate with one another. Cons Where Google wins is having an actual editor of docs & excel files. We also can make changes to documents and upload them a lot faster than trying to send them via an email sharing program. They dove into Box eagerly and have been very happy with it. It was a great opportunity to try out Box and see if it would work for the rest of our organization. I found use cases that made sense, like FTP replacement, to grow our usage of Box. We went from 25 to 50, 100, 150, 250 and now 350 users over the next couple of years. We are using Box for both internal and external collaboration. About half of our Box users access Box primarily on an iPad. Pros The ease of deployment and setup. The mobile device ease of use. Cons Issues with Box Sync. Lack of in depth reports built in. Lack of features in the Administration Console. We will definitely continue to use this for our admin storage needs. Pros Easy to implement for our office. Admin functions are easy and quick to pick up. Integrates fairly well with various needs. Cons Not the cheapest solution on the market. Also although it does integrate with certain widely used programs it lacks complex adaptabilies that other cloud services offer. Also like the simple interface. Cons So far I don't use box with other work environments. Not sure it can be linked to platforms like Jira or Teams. Other than that this is a great app! Pros The interface of this app is very simple. Just open it up and see all your folders in one place. Saved something for offline, just click the button. There is no need to search for the item just to make sure that you did have it offline. There's even a favorite button! The interface of this is simple yet easy to understand. Cons Sometimes opening up a file might take longer than normal. Also, the videos even if they are small sometimes fails to load. You would have to re-click the it to view the video.
