About Timing

Have you ever spent all day in front of your Mac, just to wonder where the heck all that time went? You could use a time tracker. But to be honest, time tracking sucks. You have to start and stop timers and enter what you did. And if you forget that, you are back to square one. Timing, on the other hand, automatically tracks how you spend your time. It logs which apps you use, which websites you visit, and which documents you edit. You can also export that data to create invoices.

Pros: At the end of the day I often wonder what the heck I have done. Do you know the feeling? No more! Timing automatically logs your activities on a mac - you can add projects and sub-projects (e.g. finances - budgets) and associate an activity with the project, you can also automate this should you want to (e.g. always make work in Quickbooks part of your finance project). You can manually add activities (e.g. a meeting that didn't require your computer). Its all done in a way that is simple and straight forward. On another tab you get your reports, which are easy to put together (just chose if you want reports for last month, this week etc or a certain date range) and you get beautiful graphs. The best thing I like about Timing is it is NOT subscription based like so many others, but you pay for the software once - the a bit more expensive edition lets you use apple script to set up more automated processes - something I would love to do but haven't yet had there time to delve into and learn.

Cons: The only cons are the ones that come with any software to log your tasks and activities. You need to actually write things down. However, in the case of Timing this is only true for offline activities away from your computer. A mobile app for the phone would be nice to help with that but is not available.

Very useful and easy to integrate into workflow.

Pros: The "Start Task" tracking tool that let's you control what it is measuring direct from its icon on the toolbar.

Cons: I know that there is a lot more I could be doing with it but haven't figured it out yet. The tutorials are good but I'm sure there are more tricks or uses to be extracted from it.

Very easy to use! You can start almost immediately!

Pros: Automatic operation, you can start virtually without configuration.
The ability to allocate applications to projects, and even websites to the types of activity. It does not reduce your computer's performance.
Comprehensive statistics divided into projects and tasks. It's all automatically registered.
In addition, you can keep a record by key words, which makes assigning tasks to the project even easier.

Overall: I basically did not find any negative. Remember to enable access privileges in the system settings. However, the application reminds and shows where to do it.
