Pros Great solution for enabling smart search on our help center and main website, it helped a lot with usability for the end user, and it was not too difficult to implement. Cons No cons, it still required our tech team to roll out (so it wasn't exactly something I could have done myself), so I guess that's a small con, but not a big deal since the implementation was easy. Algolia can do this really well but its taken a long time to build into Shopify and configure. Pros Its replaced our collection pages on Shopify with very fast loading categories of products that respond quickly to filters. The sorting strategies also work well for New in and best selling, removing the need to manually merchandise categories. Cons Its not a straight forward setup out of the box and requires quite a bit of building into your Shopify template. Review Source LZ Lucy Z. Cofounder Publishing Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "Startup Program is indeed too good to be true" May 20, 2025 1.0 Pros It is a search tool and we haven't experienced any downtime, though hard to say if it's that much better than its competitors. We were attracted by its Startup Program, but that hasn't delivered for us. Cons Algolia markets its startup program as $10,000 in Free Search & Discovery Usage, which is super attractive for pre-revenue startups and puts it ahead of its competitors. HOWEVER, what they don't tell you up front is that as soon as you're accepted into the startup program, even if it's months before you launch, the clock starts on that offer, so in practice, you really won't get $10K in value. What the startup program looked like in practice for us--we set up algolia summer 2024 as we were building our product. We launched Jan 2025, 6 months into Algolia's startup program. We've only used ~$300 in credits, yet we will lose the rest of the supposed $10K in credits next month because they only give you 1 year to use the $10K, regardless of when you actually go live. As a small, pre-revenue startup, we're now locked in to paying Algolia's expensive rates until we have the engineering bandwidth to switch, which we definitely will be switching, but I wish we had known up front because we would not have gone with Algolia and invested the time to set it up in the first place. In general we needed around 2 months with 2 experienced wordpress developers to be able to implement Algolia which now works ok. Pros The clear analytics and ease to separate accounts when using multiple of them, however this comes at a high cost. Cons The difficulty to implement with wordpress. The high cost. The lack of flexibility when integrating with other sistems that algolia does not come out of the box for. Now I am thinking of integrating its geo-search. Hopefully, it will be as good as your search with firestore. Pros The best of all is the ease of integration with your project, both to the back and front, and how easy it is to build the queries. Pros Worked flawlessly with the search engine and the data it compiled, it did what it had to do. Cons We had issues with our data, it was taking too much time to gather the product data and store it. We have over 1 million SKUs of products in 14 storefronts and it was too much for it. Pros Setting up full-text search of data stored in Firebase won't take longer than one day. Extremely easy-to-use ready-made components for Vue.js made our front-end developer happy and significantly reduced time to market. Cons I see Algolia a bit expensive for the cases where full-text search is just a nice-to-have feature. However we made our front-end to display data from Algolia only (originally data was retrieved from Firebase), and this pays off. I think they recently changed their free tier so that it makes more sense and I've really appreciated that. I've been recommending it to every friend that's building a site that relies on search because I feel like it works better than the custom Google search bar, and you have more control and clarity as to what's going on. Pros Algolia was dead-simple to set up. It literally took me a few hours from finding it to having it working on my dataset. The queries are easy, setting up rules is easy. It's just fantastic. Cons On the free version of PythonAnywhere they have certain URLs blocked and couldn't figure out how to unblock Algolia's separately, which was slightly annoying. In the end I just ended up paying about $5 a month for a PythonAnywhere account that had everything unblocked. Implementing realtime search with Algolia took me a couple of hours on my mobile app and website, and most of that time was spent making a custom UI. June 30, 2021 5.0 The Algolia search is much more easier to instal in Magento shops than the core search. We are lucky using that search which will rise our sales in future. Pros We integrated the search into our Meagento 2 Enterprise shop and it works better than the Elstic Search from Magento! Very intelligent search with a great preview of the products and a individuel configurable landingpage for the products. You can easily chose the products via relvanz, newsest first and price. Pros I use Algolia as an integration for an iOS app. The documentation to get started was excellent And I got going in less than 20 minutes. I have used on one project only so far, but I sure would like to try it again. Comparing to some open source solutions (e.g elasticsearch), it is easier to develop and it takes less development time. Pros It is fairly easy to integrate, there is a free trial option. Appears to be fast, it can be integrated in various platforms. Support is fast enough and accurate.
