Pros: 1. It's so easy to use. UX is super friendly
2. Easily make dashboards
3. You can literally import any kind of data - CSV, JSON or anything
4. You can make beautiful visualizations using Tableau.
5. Definitely better than other viz tools

Cons: 1. It is EXPENSIVE
2. You only get 10 days trial :(
3. It is not open source. Here I would say D3.js is better in that perspective

Pros: The simplicity and ease of use. - Can create and deploy analytical dashboards quickly. - Has a lot of inbuilt features that can be used for complex statistical analysis. - Can create your own calculations for the graphs. - Can connect to various data sources to get your data. - Can Process multiple data sources at merge them inside Tableau

Cons: There is not much that I dislike, but sometimes the system gets confused when you upload multiple sheets from a single excel document.

Pros: Tableau is much more dynamic than alternative reporting tools such as Salesforce reports/dashboards. There are endless opportunities to manipulate data through formulas, visualize in animation, and tell a customized story.

Cons: Connectivity to existing databases is complex and strenuous on systems. Our integration with Marketo takes 2+ hours to feed data into it each time we open tableau and causes enormous setbacks in reporting capabilities.

Pros: I have been using Tableau Desktop for over five years now and I still get excited about it. First, Tableau is so easy to learn and use--the intuitive interface allows even first-time users to create amazing visualizations. Second, Tableau is a time saver. What used to take me weeks now takes days and what used to take days now takes minutes. Third, Tableau is versatile. There are many different chart types available, and with the ability to tweak everything from size to font to color, your imagination is the only limit. Fourth, Tableau is always evolving and improving. With each update, Tableau adds new features and capabilities that continuously make my job easier to perform. The software is capable of connecting with data in many different formats from spreadsheets and SQL to PDF's and spatial files, making it useful for any field or company that works with data. I could go on and on about the benefits of using Tableau, but the best way to understand my enthusiasm is to try the product--it speaks for itself!

Cons: Sometimes large data files can take several minutes to load. Tableau allows for the creation of extracts to speed up the process, but the initial upload still takes time. Tableau also does not have an auto-save feature, which has caused me to lose work on several occasions.

Overall: Tableau has allowed our office to look at data in new ways. Whether we're using it for data exploration or dissemination, it makes the information easy to understand and use, even for newbies. In the past, we used spreadsheets and PDFs to share data with various constituents, but they were dense and only offered a static view of the data. Now, with interactive dashboards, end-users can not only search for the exact information they need, they can also see how it fits into the big picture. This capability has led people to ask more questions and actually get excited about data and assessment. Tableau allows us to answer those new questions quickly and accurately than before.

I have used tableau both professionally as well as in my graduate academic pursuits.

Pros: Tableau provides a drag and drop interface that can help to visualize large amounts of data. As someone who codes, the graphics that tableau produces are much more finished and complete looking than most graph outputs I have historically created. It allows for a wide variety of graphs as well as data manipulation within the tool.

Cons: Tableau is a bit expensive for all that it entails. I've had several employers begin moving away from Tableau in favor of cheaper or open source items. Since Tableau has so much functionality and flexibility it is not always easy to understand how to achieve your design goals. In addition, the software tries to make assumptions about what type of graph you are trying to produce, and these are not always correct, which can be annoying and cumbersome.

Comments: Best tool for Visualization

Pros: Easy to understand, use and implement. Single step connectivity to any of the files or Data sources. Get the data from anywhere and create the visualizations in a quick way. Lot many options to explore and you feel wow when you see amazing visualizations being created. Analytics is something that makes Tableau to be different from its competitors. So body can even get to the height of Tableau in the near future.

Cons: Cost is little on the higher side. If you want to utilize the few features of Tableau then you will have to shell out heavy as a single user licence. Otherwise the best one to use

Pros: Deep dive into data visualisation with a few clicks. Easily pivot data and further analyse data with customised formulas. Most people use it for sales analytics, but just check out Tableau Public and you can see so many ways Tableau can be used.

Cons: Tableau is a visualisation first software. The latest version has some built-in data wrangling features but I have not tried it comprehensively. Otherwise wrangle the data using OpenRefine or good ol' Python before importing it into Tableau

Comments: User friendly tool and easy to understand and implement

Pros: Easy to create Visualizations by just dragging and dropping on to the work area. No need of any queries for running the program. Get the answers in the form of visuals faster. Connect to more than 100 data sources with just a click and giving in the user credentials. Hassle free, quick answer to Analytical understanding.

Cons: Higher on the cost, separate cost for each of the products. I was not able to use the 15 day trail on my machine though it satisfies the requirements for the set up. Though free versions are present but it has limited connectivity. But one of the best tool for analytical visualization

Pros: The slick user interface is probably what I like most about tableau. New members of my team are easily able to teach themselves how to use the tool from the backend while front end users (customers) can easily learn the tool as well.

Cons: I wish tableau could be interactive. As we roll out dashboards, we've found that the customers wants ways to make notations on the report. There is a notes section at the bottom of each dashboard but that's not enough for our end users.

Comments: We used Tableau to combine over 2 million lines of health claims data from Excel spreadsheets with approximately 85 data points per line. Tableau made it possible for our team to compare each line of data and locate the specific lines of data that indicated problems within the coding for health benefits. After locating the issues and fixing the coding, we used Tableau to compare the data again and validate that the potential issues were corrected. Without the use of a tool like Tableau, our comparison process would have taken weeks longer, and would have been less effective.

Pros: Able to gather large pieces of data from multiple spreadsheets and combine them to create a cohesive picture Flexibility in creating different types of reports and graphs for sharing with a variety of audiences Overall, most functions were easy to learn, and once the graphs were created, it was easy to copy them and alter them for additional purposes

Cons: Some of the functions were difficult to master quickly--had a higher learning curve than I would have liked for some tasks

Comments: I was so excited to go to my first user group meeting after seeing the truly beautiful vizes for the first time and had one of the biggest letdowns of my life. The session was tangentially related to the topic they emailed me about daily, and after a week, i found out that the pretty viz i saw looked just like every other viz and little else was available. With Power BI, IBMs new tools, and some of the boutique firms offering products that look great and also have real functionality, you would at least expect a reasonable price. Well guess what. It¿s more expensive than Excel 16:..

Pros: The ability to create clean, intuitive dashboards straight from flat files or databases is very nice, and the end user with a read only account can navigate a well made page with little instruction

Cons: Calling tableau analytics software is like calling Word a project management tool. I can see cross sections and graphs of simple (and even unrelated variables), but any type of statistical processes, root cause analysis, or basic drill downs is not only difficult, it is actully impossible based on their user guides and customer support.

Pros: I was having a hard time with our ERP that needed to generate reports, then messing with them on Excel so that I could get some graphics and valuable data to make purchasing decisions, since implementing Tableau I have my Dashboards published and I'm able to access data on the go. This has impacted my work so that we are making better decisions when it comes to purchasing and procurement.

Cons: I only think that the learning curve is pretty steep, not that it's terribly complicated, but you need some patience and skills to get the reports you need, the availability of tutorials and resources online makes this way easier.

Overall: Having my dashboards published and being able to get to the most crucial KPI's when in a negotiation with a vendor, is what has given me the most value in my current position. Also, being able to review the productivity of my procurement team is key to my day to day operation.

Pros: I use tableau as an analyst every day and I like the ability to create rich visualizations from different kinds of datasets. If you are of a creative and problem solving mindset there is almost a limitless set of complex Vizzes that you can design using Tableau.

Cons: I think Tableau can be less than intuitive. While there is almost unlimited capabilty, often it's difficult to immediately understand what is required to solve your problem. It's good however that there is a huge customer base and forums that can help you. It's often better to solve your problems in the database rather than with Tableau. Use it as the Viz layer as much as you can and try to limit usage of it in doing calculations, especially with big datasets. Performance can degrade.

In the dashboard design there should be a little bit more finetuning of the interface. Can't copy/paste items which would be a nice feature.

Customer support staff are extremely professional and friendly - if you can get a hold of them. Tableau support has fallen away recently I have found.

Overall: Streamlined our reporting - provided informative dashboards to our executive team and staff.

Pros: It's easy to use and intuitive. The buttons and options are self-explanatory and it hardly takes any effort to get used to the software. I really like the chart options that are available. Using some of the graphs I realized that data representation is way better when using one form of graphs over the other. API connectivity to different apps and databases is great.

Cons: When using wrong filters, the product does give out results that take you some time to understand. The options available can get a little overwhelming.

Pros: Create powerful data viz products with a 'wow' factor relatively easy.
Plenty of self-instruction videos and forums. Formal training not necessary.
Useful for both technical user exploratory analysis and non-technical customer facing dashboards.
Tableau Reader is free, so you potentially have an unlimited audience within your organization.

Cons: Can be finicky about certain things but you learn your way around them.
Software updates are way too frequent. We have a large customer base and it's challenging to keep track of who needs to upgrade to which Tableau Reader version.
Certain features such as scheduled refreshes are reserved for Tableau Server.

Comments: This software was adopted at my company for its ease of use, cost, and ease of sharing information. The distribution of information is important for the company as information cannot reside in the cloud due to information security.

Pros: The software is very user friendly and easy to establish. There a lot of things inherently built into the software that allow for easy display of information and base analytics.

Cons: While the software is great, especially with it's low cost, heavier analytics is either performed by the user themselves or would have to have an intimate knowledge or R or some other tool.

Pros: Importing databases and viewing data in a variety of formats and graphics is as easy as a few mouse clicks. Setting up custom displays takes a bit more work and was a bit confusing, but overall it wasn't that hard.

Cons: May be a bit pricey for some (like management), but was worth it in the end. Also, the standard viewing templates tend to be all bunched up, could use an easier to organize drop down menu to keep the screen from being cluttered.

Overall: Crisp, clean displays of information for reporting to management. Basically able to skip Excel and go right from a database to Tableau.

Comments: There are probably better programs out there but if you are looking for an affordable solution and one with a great team backing it - definitely give Tableau a chance in your research of a BI tool.

Pros: Drag and drop user interface makes data management much easier than ever before. With Tableau you essentially can view results in a matter of seconds from each additional layer or section of data you add to your dashboard or KPI's.

Cons: Even though it is an easy program to learn, it takes time to invest in it's entire capability (just like any other program). You'll also want to make sure you are familiar with data to start with.

Pros: Best product for data visualizations and business intelligence solutions.Provides ease of use for interactive data visualization dashboards offering a new revolutionary approach to make better decisions faster. Can share analysis and your organization can access your dashboards.

Cons: Formatting using the control button to drop down and look at default properties should be enhanced. Single valued list with radio buttons, drop down on the filter to show all value customizations and table calculations are little complex for beginners to comprehend and use.

Pros: The graphics are impressive and having the data display in trending fashion will allow lay users of data to better understand what they see and how to action

Cons: I'm not completely sure why, but our IT analysts tell me that there is a data column limitation that then leads to replicating screen displays to get expanded information on a particular data feature choice - this may become a challenge

Overall: Thus far - the graphics seem to be a step upwards from what we could leverage in Business Objects

Comments: Would love to see a less expensive version for every day users.

Pros: The options available for presenting data; from simple dashboards to more elaborate story boards. There's excellent flexibility in how presentations are shared (via web, static pdf, permission-based access).

Cons: It is not an easy piece of software to learn once beyond the basics. It is a fairly intuitive software initially, but the more complex tasks take considerable time to master.

Pros: It has a very great interface. Very easy to use. Tableau also lets you make charts and dashboards quickly. These things used to take so much time in powerpoint and other tools. There are so many features that no one I know can say that he has a complete grip of everything that Tableau can do.

Cons: Working with time series data can take a lot of data cleansing before hand. Also, it can be difficult to make data relationship links that work in the direction of your intended use.

Comments: Overall one of the best BI Tools out there, with some time invested it can be a powerful tool for any kind of analysis.

Pros: It's a very nice tool in terms of visuals, with a lot of options and it's very easy to make visual changes, even compared to other bi tools. It's very easy to start using and the connections to diferent data sources is pretty simple and intuitive, given you have some analytical background, even if it is with excel.

Cons: If you want to do more advanced dashboards and analysis, like an elaborated cohort dashboard you will have some trouble, but with some time invested to understand how the software works it's perfectly possible. even though the community and the support is very helpful. Also, the desktop software as well as the server is sort of heavy, it needs some processing power if you want it to run smoothly, especially if you have a lot of data. Another con is the high cost for companies.

Pros: Lots of easy to use connectors to useful data sources. Easy to present the data in an appealing and easy to understand manner. Filtering and sorting make it easy to use on the fly.

Cons: Some features were not intuitive and had to find an example/tutorial to implement, there might be some help features here but I'm not aware of them. So a better help feature that includes examples might make this program even better. The program has been adding useful features each version, but earlier I had to rely more upon R integration to get the results .

Overall: Gave an edge over Excel and easier than programming in R or python. Very responsive.

Pros: I am a consultant on health economics and the graphics are stunning and the provide me with the clearest most understandable manner of presenting my findings. For my work explaining big data, no other program can manage the same amount of information as Tableau. Other probrams crash or freeze, but Tableau is able to take everything in its stride. I have used Tableau to make infographics and maps of Colombia - my country - and generally, I have to present my work to people that are not experts in the field and this program allows me to do so.

Cons: I am not going to lie, despite all of tableau´s advantages, I do find the price to be quite elevated.

Comments: I would highly recommend this product to anybody who: 1. Has high number of records to visualize 2. Need a user friendly visualization system 3. Wants all kinds of visualization techniques

Pros: The pros of the software definately consists of the type of visualizations Tableau provides. Bar charts, pie charts, global maps. You can analyze the data any way you want. With the help of tableau programming you can write custom transformation routines. The most important and visually soothing feature I find is Story. You can group several dashboards together to form a story. It can be presented to management as a story. E.g. Sales Story, Marketing revenue story, etc. Also Tableau can be connected to various data sources like Oracle, SQL Server, SAP BI.

Cons: I believe as far as basic visualizations are concerned, anybody can learn Tableau. But when complex visualizations are in picture, you need to write Tableau program lines. This can be difficult for employees from no-geek background. Considering other features this product has provided, I don't see any other cons.

Comments: I enjoyed learning Tableau and working with it across different sources to create dashboards that really help visual people be able to see and understand the different data on hand. Data is non-tangible and can be a challenge to understand. This is a great resource across industries. Such a technology cannot go unnoticed or unrecommended.

Pros: Ease of use, availability of instructional materials from beginners to the learning community in videos and in forum format, retrieving data in raw format for Excel vs. sending IT a request to add a report into a system, great support from configuration and onwards, looks beautiful!

Cons: On a minor scale, there are some quirks between updates that kind of "update" what you're working on so sometimes the project gets glitches. Can't wait for real-time connection online to data sources aside from the scheduled refreshes. More customizable elements for the design.

Pros: Tableau offers a vast array of visualizations to present data in powerful and impactful ways.
Whether directly through SQL queries, or using the intuitive UI, I can quickly select and visualize data meaningfully. Being able to query local, remote, or hybrid data sources ensures I have access to the relevant data, and can also build on data from any source I'm provided. Gone are the days of building charts and graphs in spreadsheet software, and running complex equations to find and combine datasets.

Cons: Though I have no formal training for data analysis, Tableau can be overwhelming at first. It is so powerful you can get caught up in choosing which type of visualization to build, and how to combine your visualizations in the most impactful way. Help options in the application and on the web are abundant, so sitting down for a few hours with a video guide is extremely helpful.

Pros: Support: There is definitely a learning curve when it comes to learning Tableau, but the good thing is that Tableau comes with so much support. Whether it be learning the basics or trying to do something very specific, the resources that come with Tableau make it so that you can get what you need. Comments: Tableau is very very useful for self-analysis of data, It's very user-friendly and easy to learn, I am using Tableau since last 5 year.Thankyou tableau team for all your efforts.

Pros: Sometimes we got some limitation in tableau but its a very good tool to showcase of our data to the right audience.

Cons: As I am using tableau since last 5 year continuously, I don't get any issue with tableau but as this tool very costly most of the company are not using it.

Recommendations to other buyers: It's a very good tool to show data to the right audience so I recommendation to other as well.

Pros: unique, feels very user-friendly as far as the types of reports that can be generated.

Cons: seems a bit complicated to do the actual report generating, but I have a financial analyst who does this for me! I'm sure it will become easier and will feel more intuitive once I have spent more time with it.

Overall: Our financial analyst has recently shared this program with me -- he is the generator of the reports that I use on a daily basis, so although I'm by no means an expert in creating reports, I do appreciate that he can now offer me a wider range of reporting options. It is still new to me but I expect that I will learn to appreciate it even more as I spend more time with it.

Pros: My company utilizes Tableau to store and display different kinds of internal data. I've found it to be relatively user friendly in terms of downloading and displaying data, and would recommend it to any company for those purposes.

Cons: It seems that Tableau has some difficulties with interpreting complex business rules, which limits its functionality for some higher level purposes. That said, it's possible that has as much to do with how my company utilizes Tableau as it does with the tool itself.

Pros: Anyone can access the reporting functionality

Cons: not user friendly, slow & not easy to download raw data

Overall: Tableau's reporting interface is not as intuitive as other reporting platforms. There is a functionality to export the raw data leading into reports but it is not easy to get to and the data output is not in a user friendly format and requires a lot of manipulation. The system is very slow and the filter and formatting options are lackluster.

Pros: Connectors and visualizations for, literally, everything.

Cons: Incredibly difficult to use. Learning curve is super steep for anyone who is not a data analyst.

Overall: Even the Google Datastudio team use Tableau, that says it all. Tableau is the industry standard for a reason. Incredibly steep learning curve but the connectors (anything with an API) as well as custom data source support are beyond compare.

No other competing product comes close. If you can master the art of creating visualization notebooks with Tableau, you'll become a lynchpin in your organization.

Recommendations to other buyers: Spend some time with ANY other BI tool and you'll see why Tableau is the industry standard. Invest the time in learning how it works and you'll get a massively disproportionate benefit from the tool.

Comments: This software seems like it changed the whole game of data analysis. My organization used it to supplement the IT folks std. reports and once we have the data in the required format, creating good visuals is drag and drop. Stunning ones can easily be created for presentations by an average Joe which is the best part. Two negatives though are A- it doesn't have a lot of focus on data quality and preparation so other packages that have these good tools along with a front end visualization package can be a better deal. Their license is a tad expensive as compared to like PowerBI from Microsoft so be careful if you buy it you use it. My company bought a bunch of licenses that we didn't utilize enough so tread carefully and keep in mind that Excel will still be king

Comments: The best feature is the ability to integrate multiple data sources into one unified, user-friendly, and visually appealing dashboard where anyone can access exactly the information they are looking for. Prior to Tableau, we struggled to find ways to show how multiple data sources were interacting.
