## FAQs about Sideline

Overview

### Which roles and teams benefit most from Sideline?

Sideline is most used by small business owners, executives, and client-facing professionals who need a separate business number without a second device. Healthcare practitioners, marketers, and operations managers use it to manage calls and texts, protect personal privacy, and stay responsive with customers, patients, and partners.

Answer based on 58 reviews

Overview

### What company size and industries is Sideline built for?

Sideline is built primarily for small businesses, which make up 75% of reviewers, with insurance at 10% as the top industry. It also serves enterprise companies at 15% and midsize businesses at 10%, with additional adoption in mental health care and health, wellness and fitness, each at 8%.

Answer based on 64 reviews

Features and Usability

### What are the key features of Sideline?

Sideline includes core calling and texting features built around a second business phone number on one mobile device. Key features include SMS messaging, caller ID for identifying business calls, voicemail with voicemail-to-text options, contact management, mobile access, and auto-reply settings for missed calls and messages.

Answer based on 33 reviews

Limitations

### Does Sideline have bugs or reliability issues?

Sideline works for basic second-line calling and texting, but reliability issues come up often in day-to-day use. Users mention login problems, missed calls, contact name glitches, voicemail issues, and messages not sending consistently. Small teams can find it useful, though recurring app problems and slow support make it harder to trust.

Answer based on 21 reviews

Pricing

### How much does it cost and what fees or limitations are included?

Sideline starts at $9.99/month for the Standard plan, while Pro costs 14.99/month; both include a free trial. Reviewers call it cost effective for a separate business line, but some object to the discontinued free version, ads on paid accounts, and sharp price increases that strained small-business budgets.

Answer based on 25 reviews

Getting Started and Support

### How good is Sideline customer support for phone issues?

Sideline handles basic phone service well, but customer support is a common frustration for many business users. Support often relies on chat or email instead of live phone help, which can slow issue resolution. Small businesses like the second-line features, yet account blocks, porting delays, and limited follow-up create concerns.

Answer based on 33 reviews

Getting Started and Support

### What customer support options does Sideline offer, and how do users rate the experience?

Sideline offers email/help desk, FAQ/forum, a knowledge base, 24/7 live rep, and chat. User experiences with support are mixed: some describe tech support as helpful and responsive, especially for number porting, while many report slow replies, unhelpful automated answers, ticket issues, and unresolved billing or app problems.

Answer based on 28 reviews

Features and Usability

### Can Sideline give me a second phone number on my cell?

Sideline gives users a practical second phone number on an existing cell phone for work, side gigs, or privacy. Small business owners, freelancers, and nonprofit teams like separating personal and business calls without carrying another device. Setup is usually simple, though some users report transfer, login, or connectivity problems.

Answer based on 32 reviews

Features and Usability

### How well does Sideline work for business texting?

Sideline supports business texting well for many small teams, freelancers, and service businesses that need a separate work number. Users value auto-replies, away messages, desktop texting, and keeping personal numbers private. Some limitations remain, including occasional message delivery issues, limited bulk texting options, and unwanted in-app message alerts.

I would say that overall I was very unimpressed with sideline. Having to support a team of about 15 users there was always issues. I also remember during November 2024 we received an alert that our service would be disruptive during the use in the presidential campaign.

Pros

This is very simple setup that is good if you are just one user and that is it. They recently are removing the enterprise option but this is what we used. Super simple setup though, no TCR application or managing anything just works.

Cons

Support is very lackluster, you cannot call anyone. All support is handled through the chat. Randomly and without warning, your account may be blocked due to them thinking you are spam and you are not notified. Meaning that you do not know for how long you were blocked for having to double check with clients. Does not support features like transferrring, recording or even downloading any voicemails.

Reasons for choosing Sideline

Oh no we went with Ring central instead. There was just a lot more enterprise support there and no random lockouts

It's an affordable, quality product for people and businesses that want to transfer or have a new phone number. You have a rich array of features to manage your phone calls. You can also use a desktop version.

Pros

I'm able to text on my business line, and the price is excellent.

Cons

The call quality is sometimes not excellent. The number porting took some time.

Pros

The display/interface is clean and easy to navigate

It used to be a free service and now that’s not an option.

If the issues are resolved. It will be an excellent product.

Pros

This product is cost effective. I would recommend it based on price only at this time.

Cons

I have been a loyal customer of Sideline since its inception, embracing the transition to a paid service with the understanding that existing customers would be Grandfathered at a rate of $69.99 per year. Unfortunately, this commitment has been breached, as evidenced by my recent charge of $129.99 plus tax on November 8, 2023. This review aims to address the significance of honoring agreements with customers and delve into the technical issues I have encountered since 2017, including problems with caller ID and the AI's functionality. Sideline's failure to uphold the agreement to charge existing customers $69.99 annually is a breach of trust. The discrepancy between the promised Grandfathered rate and the actual charge of $129.99 plus tax erodes the foundation of customer satisfaction and trust. This not only reflects poorly on Sideline's commitment to its customers but also raises concerns about the transparency and integrity of its business practices. The importance of honoring agreements cannot be overstated in a competitive market. Customers choose a service based on trust and reliability, and a breach of such agreements undermines these fundamental elements. This not only leaves existing customers disillusioned but also dissuades potential customers from trusting Sideline's commitment to fair and transparent dealings. Since 2017, my experience with Sideline has been marred by persistent technical problems, significantly impacting the overall utility of the service. The caller ID function consistently fails to display the correct name or number, leading to confusion and potentially missed communications. Furthermore, calls often display incorrect phone numbers, further exacerbating the issue. The AI feature, designed to enhance user experience, has proven ineffective. It fails to address queries accurately, often requiring multiple attempts to obtain a satisfactory response. This not only diminishes the efficiency of the service but also hampers the user's ability to rely on Sideline for effective communication. These technical shortcomings have significantly diminished my overall perception of Sideline services. The breach of the agreement, coupled with persistent technical issues, raises concerns about the company's commitment to providing a reliable and customer-centric service. Such problems may not only tarnish existing customer relationships but also deter potential customers from choosing Sideline over competitors. Sideline must prioritize resolving these issues promptly to salvage its reputation and maintain customer satisfaction. Addressing these technical drawbacks would not only enhance the user experience but also contribute to the overall improvement of the product. This, in turn, could lead to increased customer loyalty, positive reviews, and a more competitive position in the market.

Their “Help” window responds with answers to questions you didn’t ask. No matter how you word the question the response is still the wrong and unrelated response. Customer service apologized for the rate increase. It’s not the increase, it’s the fact that Sideline raised the rate 50% at one time. WOW. Not a user friendly approach to customers.

Pros

Availability of a second phone line was needed so we began looking for a solution to a problem.

Cons

Sideline raised their monthly rate 50% overnight. No gradual increase, one swoop. Don’t we all wish we could raise our prices by 50% at one time? As a non-profit we work in a tight budget. Sadly, we’ll begin looking for an alternative service.

Reasons for choosing Sideline

They were competitive in their pricing at $9.99 a month. Six months later they raised their rate by 50%.

Pros

When it works it's ok. But there are ongoing glitches about every 6 months. See below!

Cons

I have had sideline for 3 to 4 years. In the past there were some minor glitches but they were fixed pretty quick.. But right now, there is a major problem - Sideline signed me out of my app. I didn't know it, I received no notice of it. I've now missed 7 business phone calls over the past 5 days. I've also worked with Sideline for 5 days to try to resolve this issue. They seem unable to find a way for me to log in to my account. They keep telling me it's resolved&to dign in. But on my phone it is not resolved . It is a friggin mess right now and I am getting more upset by the day. If Sideline can't fix a Sideline issue than what good are they

My business number is with sideline so we need to stay, but the issues with the app and customer service make it an awful experience

Pros

Once you have everything set up, the app pilots itself. It's pretty easy to use

Cons

Customer service is awful. There is no one to talk to personally, ever. If something goes wrong, it will stay wrong, for hours or days while they take their time to respond to your email for help. If you need to make a change in the app, it will not auto install. You will have to delete the app and log back in. No, I'm not joking. For every change. It's literally archaic. Good luck.
