### "Canopy is a solid client management software with great Customer Service!"

Worth the time and expense to manage your clients and tasks. I don't use the invoicing because it doesn't connect to QB desktop, but all in all, I am so thankful for its ability to track and organize, as well as give clients access to their files 24/7.

Pros

It was fairly simple to learn and helped us get all of our client management in one place. Their support team is fabulous, often responding within moments, and resolving issues (which are fairly rare) sooner than I expect. The ability to securely share and receive files from clients is a game-changer!

Cons

The hardest part of Canopy is using the templates and automations. I'm a bit of a computer geek, so I enjoyed that process, but I can see some people finding it cumbersome to learn. The recent revamp has been a bit of a struggle to understand, as well, but I'm confident we'll get used to it soon.

I'm trying NOT to switch because my clients are already used to the client portal but smart vault/Liscio other products recommended by\[sensitive content hidden\] seem to work better and easier

Pros

It could be an all-in-one system for running accounting/tax/tax resolution firm. My clients are used to the client portal, so it is hard to switch them to another product. Emails go into Canopy but attaching to a task is either possible or impossible

Cons

Hard to learn. Task Screen to see what work is done, in progress etc. is impossible...I've gone back to a google doc. The Task Screen has columns Task and Task with Sub-Task for each entry which doesn't tell you anything and takes up main space in the screen. Would be helpful if the Column Header Task could show the TYPE of TASK like Tax, Accounting, Tax Resolution or name a special project. Then you could sort based on type of work. Sub Task Column is useless and unnecessary. Videos are too much of an overview. Customer Service is impatient and just refer you to videos and help which i have already reviewed. There are no definitions of terms used in help section.

Canopy has made everything easier & faster for all staff members. It made accessing all client info faster, saves us time with files, helped us standardize processes, cut out busy work and simplified so many of our processes and provides better tracking for all workflows. I would highly recommend it to everyone. The automations alone are worth the switch.

Pros

I liked that it consolidated our tech stack and made everything we do more efficient and effective. The automations that can be built in have saved us so much time and made A/R as well as receiving signatures so much easier. Our clients feel more supported than ever before with more frequent touches wihtout bogging down the staff with follow up emails.

Cons

Setting it up initially was the most difficult because we had so many different programs that we were using before that we had to consolidate to one. It also took a long time for our files to upload as we have thousand of clients with a ton of files.

Customer support is great. Even if I don't get the answer I'm hoping for, I still feel heard. Their user experience surveys lead to practical and useful improvements to the software. Clients have no problems connecting to and using their Client Portal.

Pros

It solves several problems, from secure document storage, file sharing with clients, e-signatures, and task management, to invoicing, payment processing, engagements, and many more.

Cons

There's a bit of a learning curve, and there are some limitations based on your business entity type.

Pros

Our firm absolutely loves the Canopy practice management system. It has significantly improved efficiency across multiple areas of our business, streamlining workflows and enhancing collaboration. The customer support team is exceptional; they are knowledgeable, responsive, and always willing to help. Despite being a relatively new product, Canopy’s development team is highly proactive, continuously making meaningful improvements and quickly rolling out feature enhancements based on customer feedback. Cons

There is nothing major to pinpoint. There have been a few hiccups along the way but the team works quickly to resolve issues as they arise.

At the time we evaluated both systems, Canopy offered a more flexible structure to accommodate our workflow. Canopy also had better reporting functionality and provided an all-encompassing solution where (at the time) with Karbon, we would have still had to use Ignition separately.

Canopy has been a great solution for the start up of our new firm. Staff and clients like it and we find the cost to be a great value.

Pros

There are so many wonderful parts of Canopy, it is hard to choose just one! We really like that we can now access information from one "area" so to speak. Communications, billing, client data, file storage is not spread out over multiple software solutions or separate logins. Additionally, we feel we are getting great value for our money. This software really feels like it has been made for a small business but can grow with a company. If we didn't utilize Canopy, we would likely be paying for multiple software solutions to do what Canopy does in one. We absolutely love the client portal. All of our clients like it as well. Previously we used a different system, and files would expire, then we'd have to re-send documents if needed to clients. The Canopy portal is linked to the client's profile and file storage. You can just decide what to make visible to the client in one click. You are already storing the files so it is super easy to share current documents as well as past documents with Clients. Clients find it easy to use. Lastly, it is easy to learn. We found that after a bit of use, it is pretty intuitive. You can move in and out of the various parts with ease. You can start at looking at a client files, then move to their home page with contact info, etc., then look at their most recent bill, or last email sent to them. Very smooth and easy to navigate! As a new firm, Canopy is all we've used up to this point. However, our \[sensitive content hidden\] has worked for or been a parter at several firms including PWC, EY and a few smaller regional firms and says this is hands down easier to use and she loves it!

Cons

The reporting areas are our biggest frustration. The only way to create reports outside of canopy is to export to a .csv file. This is very frustrating as (1) the presentation is terrible. It requires a ton of time editing to make it look good for presentation and (2) the data is manipulable. If I want to pull a report of hours worked for payroll, I take a screenshot of the totals before pulling a report. I have accidentally "lost" hours when editing the .csv report to go along with my payroll reporting. I only knew about it by taking a screenshot of a report and comparing the two. Being able to export or print to pdf or word would be a huge bonus.

Overall, we have been very impressed by canopy and it has helped us run more efficiently and smoothly as a firm. We are impressed by the continued improvements and features that have rolled out over the years and we look forward to watching how the program evolves.

Pros

I can access canopy anywhere and create customized dashboards that help me manage our practice and make actionable decisions. The interface that clients and we experience is a breath of fresh air compared to a lot of dated accounting software out there. Canopy support has always been very helpful when we've experienced issues.

Cons

Aside from periodic outages or glitches in the system, my primary dislike is just waiting for new features that we hope to see or running into occasional things that we would like to report on that we might not be able to report on easily in the insights feature.

\- We are figuring it out but it's taken a solid year of using. - Document storage is easy to access. - There are a lot of 'glitches' but Canopy is responsive and helpful. - The revenue reporting is difficult to navigate when paid invoices are archived. Not sure why it's even available to archive paid invoices to begin with. - Would definitely recommend.

Pros

\- It's overall efficiency and ease of use. - The tasks, subtasks are easy to use. - Insights reports are amazing! - Responsiveness of support.

Cons

\- Applying credits duplicates revenue - consider applying as deposits instead of credits. Training - consider using mock client list, tasks & subtasks during training. This would have made a HUGE difference. - Updates throw off our tracking! We appreciate the updates but our method(s) of tracking get wonky. - Stationary statuses that cannot be sorted or reworded.

Overall its a decent product - price is comparable to other similar systems that integrate better though. I do like the idea of only having one product but while they are rolling out their features that I currently have other systems doing, it would be nice to have it all work together then the option to switch to Canopy's stuff only once its all updated. Customer Service has been hit or miss - sometimes very helpful and sometimes more frustrating. There's definitely a learning curve, but I feel that happens with any software.

Pros

The interface is overall clean. Clients have been able to easily navigate on their end. Time tracking and reports are easy. The file sharing with clients is easy and secure.

Cons

It doesn't integrate with much and there is a lot of set up to get tasks and workflows going. I absolutely hate the layout of the engagements for clients - its clunky to piece together and doesn't look good from the client side. They are slow to roll out new features but I am excited about some that have just come out or are about to.

Overall, my staff really enjoys the software and the ease of use once the implementation was done. Change is always hard, but it's nice to be able to look back and say that it was worth it.

Pros

We shopped for a long time for a program that was capable of replacing multiple other applications in our tech stack....and didn't find anything that we liked more than Canopy. We now have our client portals, communications, billing, task management and more in one platform that is easily accessible online or from the mobile app.

Cons

Some of the setup was challenging and takes some time. I wish that there were better integrations directly with Thomson Reuters to move tax returns easily into the system.

Pros

Canopy gives us one clean, centralized place to manage client communication and tax workflow. The client portal is easy for clients to use, the organizers and document requests keep things structured, and the e-signature piece helps everything move along without a lot of back-and-forth. From our side, it keeps us organized and compliant, and from the client’s side, it feels simple and professional, which is important to us at BSU.

Cons

What we liked least about Canopy is that some of the workflow and automation can feel a bit rigid. For a firm like ours that serves a wide mix of clients, there are times we want more flexibility and customization in how requests, tasks, and follow-ups are handled. It’s a strong platform overall, but certain processes can feel more “one-size-fits-all” than ideal, especially when managing more complex or non-standard engagements.

Pros

It combines a lot of great things. Workflows, invoicing, Client communication, organizers. I love how there is so much information within a client file.

Cons

The tax organizers cannot link to the tax workflows. Sometimes the integration with QBO doesn't flow and takes manual work.

it has been great. The support we have received from our reps has been outstanding. \[sensitive content hidden\] was our onboarding rep and did an excellent job answering questions and guiding us through every step.

Pros

Canopy is a comprehensive program that takes the place of 6 programs we used to use. The learning curve for canopy is quite easy. Our clients like it because they can more readily communicate with the tax preparers, unload documents, review the tax return before it is ready to be signed, pay the invoice for the prep and sign the document all in one place. This system we estimate will save us about 6k per month.

Cons

Preparing everything in advance to upload into canopy. It is very tedious organizing almost four thousand files and determining who is active and not active

What I like least is that while Canopy pulls transcripts automatically, I still have to manually save them into files. It would save a lot of time if that step could be automated. The extra manual process makes it feel a bit tedious in an otherwise smooth system.

Canopy has been a huge help to our firm for so many different reasons. We can just about complete our entire tax workflow and process through Canopy. The constant improvements and new features also indicate a high level of commitment to helping users of all levels.

Pros

The accessibility to incorporate multiple email accounts for your own profile as well as the incorporation of the google calendar. Also, integrating different AI features to help ease the overall experience.

Cons

The inability to communicate with other methods than email can often be a hindrance. Being able to text or communicate through a messaging system using a client's cell phone number would be very beneficial.

Very positive. They make improvements all the time and I appreciate their workshops with influencers and other users so we can get perspectives from non-Canopy employees - it's very helpful.

Pros

We are early adopters of Canopy and like any new platform there will be kinks; and Canopy is great about listening to the users and making changes that are recommended so everyone can benefit. Customer service and follow up from our rep \[sensitive content hidden\] is excellent. She calls in the right people to assist in any call so we have a whole team that works with us through new modules, pricing and questions.

Cons

We don't use Invoicing in Canopy but our situation is very unique. We don't not like the invoicing, but the system we have works better for the needs of our clients. I will say that it's helpful that not using invoicing has not hurt our workflow

Experience has been good overall. Service has been prompt and good when needed. Love the fact that the product is not stagnant but is improving all of the time.

Pros

It is user friendly. It is flexible in that you can add fields. The reports are easy to run and report lots of information.

Cons

can't use many fields as merge fields in emails. Need to have more access to created fields. Could use better ways to do mass changes.

Canopy unite all client information, files, and tasks into one place, which makes daily work much easier. The interface is clean, navigation is easy, and the tools feel well-integrated. Clients love it, the UI is great and it's super user friendly! We do almost every important function of the business inside of Canopy and it has become a great resource for us!

Cons

I do wish Canopy had the option to assign client numbers to clients. I also wish that the engagement credits had more price drops for firms with a larger number of clients.
