October 13, 2021 5.0 Everything related to managing my websites I can now do with Cloudways. They even offer additional services such as 25GB mailboxes. Although more expensive than cPanel-based hosts, this is also way superior... They have other services as well that are super useful and professional. Just way better than anything out there. I tried them. During that period I saw no meaningful improvement in page speed or server response compared to my previous host. Because the service didn’t meet expectations, I cancelled the server after the first month. Despite cancelling, I continued to receive charges on my card. I reached out to support multiple times, provided dates and screenshots, and requested a refund for the period after cancellation. Unfortunately, the issue was not resolved and I kept getting billed. For me, the combination of underwhelming performance, confusing billing, and slow resolution from support resulted in a bad overall experience. I’ve since switched to another provider, and the problems have stopped. Based on my experience, I can’t recommend Cloudways. If you do try them, keep careful records, take screenshots when you cancel, and closely monitor your billing statements. No humans are obviously involved and there is zero allowance for mistakes Pros generally works as expected and price seems ok. This said, their setup is complicated and mistakes are easily made and not forgiven. Cons Zero grace period for mistaken account deletion. I mistakenly cancelled my account and notified them within 1 hour - Too bad for me. Once you click the account deletion button everything is immediately gone forever and CANNOT be recovered. Cloud hosting has had a positive impact on my SEO. The help and support with moving to Cloudways was amazing, they did all the hard work for me. It took time to learn how to use the software to its full advantage. If you're going to move your site to Cloudways cloud hosting be prepared to put in some serious time to get it up and running. COO Education Management Used the software for: 1-2 years ### "CLOUDWAYS ARE THIEVES" March 4, 2024 1.0 Pros I guess if I owned Cloudways I would like how overpriced they are, because I could just steal customers money and get super rich. Cons Following their buyout by DigitalOcean I recieved my first and only phone call from Cloudways, asking if I would like a discount on the next 3 months of hosting. They explained that my site would be migrated from Vultr to DigitalOcean for free, seamlessly and without any issue. The migration was a joke, many of my regular customers got double charged as both servers were running concurrently, issues that took me hours to personally fix! This also hurt my reputation with customers, many refunds had to be given obviously! Then came the real kick. Cloudways DOUBLE CHARGED ME for both servers (the agreement was that I would get 14 days to close my old server without charge, which I did in 7 days). They took money from my account with authorisation. When I asked for a refund they flat out refused and only replied with this "Due to the nature of locked revenue, refunds are not possible". I have contacted them at least 10+ times via email / online chat to try and get this fixed but noone cares. They have said they would call me, they do not. Everything is misdirection and lies. Noone even responsed to my first email for 16 days!...and the service chat people say they are unable to help with billing matters - so I got the full runaround and deflection. Due to the problems with Cloudways I have moved my hosting to another provider where I have a much faster server (and the website is at least 2x faster), and the cost is HALF of what I was paying at Cloudways. If you're considering Cloudways, DON'T DO IT. Look at xCloud (xcloud.host), half the price, double the speed. Cloudways still owe me money but they refuse to refund. I'm now opening a transaction dispute with my bank as it is clearly theft and against the agreement. They are sticking with this "Upon authorizing your credit card on Cloudways, you acknowledge and agree to the terms and conditions for automatic debiting."..... But taking more than agreed from my account is illegal and they need to provide refunds! June 25, 2019 4.0 When Cloudways burst on the hosting scene, they were blazing a trail for low-cost, high performance VPS in a very easy to use package. The industry is catching up, and Cloudways has some solid competitors now. That said, my company has been with Cloudways for 2 years and we're not likely to switch hosting providers anytime soon. They keep releasing new features like staging sites, great deals on CDN and Email via RackSpace. The overall experience is worth sticking around! Pros Cloudways easy to use interface has been a breath of fresh air over cPanel. Their staging site feature is very handy (especially with E-Commerce sites), and you get great deals on CDN's, email hosting, and referral bonuses. There's lots of pro's to discuss, like in-built server security and caching features that you don't have to manage via command line. You do however, get lots of settings to tweak should you need! Cons I only have one issue with Cloudways, and that's hit or miss support. Often support agents are very helpful and get to the bottom of your issue, but there are times when it feels like it's the rep's first day on the job. That said, this issue has been happening less and less over time, and I suspect Cloudways got the memo to improve their agent training. Haven't had any reps be rude, knock on wood! Not the ultimate fastest stack in the world, but leagues above shared hosting and on par with other managed hosts like MainWP etc. You do pay for the convenience, but if your main business is not server management, it's worth it! Pros The dashboard is incredibly friendly to use, and has a lot of features. Deep integration with server providers means almost anything you would ever need to do can be handled through the dashboard. Cloning, staging and backups are especially good. Cons The price is steep, especially for more powerful servers. Basically double the upstream provider cost.Also, cloudways own the server er you use. It is provisioned under their account, not yours. I came from a shared hosting plan and cPanel and couldn't be happier. I feel like I can finally grow my web businesses without all the constraints that normally come with shared hosting and dealing with typical hosting companies. Pros Cloudways was so easy to set up. I was able to get a server on Digital Ocean setup in a matter of minutes, and then 6 websites (as applications) setup and live in no time. What I like the most - Customer service is awesome. They help me solve a problem that I caused, and corrected it for me. - You can spin up a new server or application very quickly - Adding email and CDN is cost effective and easy to do - Ability to scale my server based on my needs - No month-to-month contracts - Interface is clean and easy to navigate and 100% better than cPanel What I'm experimenting with - They offer staging environments but they are still in beta. I'll be playing around with them a little more in the future to better understand how I can use them in my workflow. They do offer the ability to clone staging environments to a live server with a click of a button so that looks promising. Cons Their online documentation isn't as detailed as it needs to be. I found myself Googling a few things to get my applications and domain setup correctly. Many times I found the answers I needed on another blog post or by piecing together info from several differnt sources. April 12, 2019 4.0 Overall, I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with Cloudways. At times it's good and at times it's absolutely frustrating in the way they're setup. I tend to prefer a Digital Ocean + Server Pilot combination. Pros I know a lot of agency businesses like using Cloudways, the pricing is good for using services like Digital Ocean, but see my cons. Their interface is not your normal cPanel type interface but it's not bad and offers some nice user-friendly access to server features. Cons I'm relatively savvy with working with web hosts and setting up sites, servers, etc. But for some reason, I found using Cloudways to be somewhat frustrating in their setup. The other annoying thing is the way they handle additional MySQL databases for a site (e.g. if you have multiple apps installed that require a MySQL database). Also, tech support can vary - for the most part, they've been pretty good, but I have encountered 1 or 2 lousy tech support agents. The configuration is very simple and allows you to carry out almost any custom configuration. Cloudways is a tool that makes it easy to spin up a server at a few different providers, and then give you an interface to manage that server, almost as easy as with cPanel. Pros I love how flexible Cloudways is. I've dabbled with a few similar tools since I first tried Cloudways, and none of them had quite as many options. I love how you can easily spin up new servers, and each server can be configured down to the small details at any time. It means you can have a VPS without having to be a server administrator. Cloudways gives you an interface that lets you do ALMOST everything you might need, and does all the hard work behind the scenes for you. Cons There are a few things I would like to see, like Litespeed integration for servers. I would also like an option to have email services through your server, even if it cost extra. Also, the interface could use a slight refresh as it can be a little daunting at first.
