I run an agency that has relied on their services for years and they have steadily gotten worse month by month. I have screenshots & documentation from as far back as April reporting server issues. Suddenly performance took a nose dive and support keeps applying "optimizations" to the server which actually make it worse. Each screenshot shows one agent make a fix, followed by another that reverses the change saying it was incorrect, followed by the next redoing the change. This cycle has continued for months now and they refuse to do any real investigation. Pros It was once a great service - the platform itself is easy to use. Cons The support and back-end performance. Websites perform terribly, their support system has 0 idea what they are dong when configuring them and often breaks things. They offer no assistance to fix it and leave your server performing terribly. COO Education Management Used the software for: 1-2 years ### "CLOUDWAYS ARE THIEVES" March 4, 2024 1.0 Pros I guess if I owned Cloudways I would like how overpriced they are, because I could just steal customers money and get super rich. Cons Following their buyout by DigitalOcean I recieved my first and only phone call from Cloudways, asking if I would like a discount on the next 3 months of hosting. They explained that my site would be migrated from Vultr to DigitalOcean for free, seamlessly and without any issue. The migration was a joke, many of my regular customers got double charged as both servers were running concurrently, issues that took me hours to personally fix! This also hurt my reputation with customers, many refunds had to be given obviously! Then came the real kick. Cloudways DOUBLE CHARGED ME for both servers (the agreement was that I would get 14 days to close my old server without charge, which I did in 7 days). They took money from my account with authorisation. When I asked for a refund they flat out refused and only replied with this "Due to the nature of locked revenue, refunds are not possible". I have contacted them at least 10+ times via email / online chat to try and get this fixed but noone cares. They have said they would call me, they do not. Everything is misdirection and lies. Noone even responsed to my first email for 16 days!...and the service chat people say they are unable to help with billing matters - so I got the full runaround and deflection. Due to the problems with Cloudways I have moved my hosting to another provider where I have a much faster server (and the website is at least 2x faster), and the cost is HALF of what I was paying at Cloudways. If you're considering Cloudways, DON'T DO IT. Look at xCloud (xcloud.host), half the price, double the speed. Cloudways still owe me money but they refuse to refund. I'm now opening a transaction dispute with my bank as it is clearly theft and against the agreement. They are sticking with this "Upon authorizing your credit card on Cloudways, you acknowledge and agree to the terms and conditions for automatic debiting."..... But taking more than agreed from my account is illegal and they need to provide refunds! I dealt with 10s of hosting companies and none of them were so careless towards their customers. Pros I liked mostly what is not cloudways' pro but rather digitalocean's. The server performance is good. Cons They have the worst customer care in the industry. They automatically remove server AND public IP only after 48 hours without any prior notifications or anything. They are terrible at communicating such a drastic measure they are taking absolutely disregarding how it'll affect the customer. the IP lease cost only $3.60 month. Even keeping this IP for a month for the services you paid them would only cost $3.60... But they decide to release your IP only after 48... They are that cheap!! Their agents are fast at responding, know exactly how to fix problems that may occur, their pricing is clear and offered as a pay-as-you-go service so you only pay for what you use instead of buying a plan which you may never fill, their servers are easily scalable, they offer a wide variety of different servers to choose from; Digital Ocean, Google Cloud, AWS, VULTR, Linode, and AWS. They also throw in the ability to manage email addresses by using their third party affiliates Rackspace, they offer additional addons for managing DNS with another affiliate DNS Made Easy... basically, you can have everything managed by the Cloudways team so that you can worry less about your servers and hosting, giving you more time and freedom to spend on other matters of your business. Which is what every business needs. Pros They simplify absolutely everything for the user. So no more typical cPanel to navigate around servers and websites that you host, instead you have their own beautifully laid out, clean, and most importantly \*understandable\* menu system which is visually eye-pleasing. Simplicity at its best. Cons Although they have their live chat where there is always an agent waiting to help 24/7 (which most of the agents can answer your questions and resolve your problems there and then), the only downfall is their ticketing system. If your problem is a little more complexed and requires additional help, a ticket must be opened. But I found it difficult to implement security and speed optimization. And I was also worried about maintenance. Since my focus shouldn't be on this kind of task, fortunately I found cloudways which made the management of the VPS more easy then a shared hosting. Pros Easy to use, reliable and affordable. I'm not an expert in server management but it's a fact that having a VPS to host your sites, in terms of performance, it's much better than shared hosting. But the problem is that it it's much harder to manage. And if you don't know about it, you have to learn or pay someone to do it and to maintain. Cloudways makes it all easy and smooth because they do all the process with their own system and you have a great support and visual dashboard for all you need. It's easier than a cPanel, for example. Cons I have to think a little to say the least thing because it could seem unfair. But I think if you want to scale your server hardware requirements the pricing may be a problem. Manager Newspapers Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "Fast, easy and reasonably priced - definitely a win" June 7, 2022 5.0 So far so good, nothing to complain about and a big improvement in comparison with my previous hosting service Pros I’m very happy with Cloudways thanks to the very easy and very swift procedure to create an account and deploy a server and its applications (Wordpress in my case, production + staging environments). Real usage performances have been outstanding and without issues so far, even the one of the basic tiers can handle without hiccups my website which counts more than 200 blog posts. Costs are very clearly specified and can be monitored in real time. There is also a one click interface for vertical scalability, should you need more performance (even for a limited time, like a product launch or such). Customer care has been very quick in responding to chat messages within minutes, and proactively solved my issues in no time and with the utmost kindness. There is also a referral program. So far so good! Cons My only minor complaint is with the Cloudflare add-on, since its technical details are not clearly specified for an advanced CLoudflare user and connoisseur and all in all it’s cheap and works within a few minutes but lacks all kind of customisation and the default configuration is (understandably) quite conservative. IT Lead Retail Used the software for: 1-2 years ### "Impressive platform for Wordpress hosting with pedestrian support" May 17, 2022 3.0 I utilized Cloudways for Wordpress + Woocommerce hosting. Pros The idea of a platform that exposes semi-managed hosting on top of multiple providers (DigitalOcean, GCP, AWS, Vultr, Linode, etc) is very impressive and being able to choose and experiment with different underlying providers is quite appealing. The portal they expose is fully custom and has most of what you would want and they provide relatively easy ssh access as well. Their "clone app" feature will copy your production Wordpress site and spin up a new staging site with a few clicks and it does a good job. Cons The portal has a very convenient chat feature with the support engineers and for very simple requests/problems that are in their wheelhouse it is a very quick way to get help - however, I found that most of my requests were outside of their support's wheelhouse, so I was consistently let down. This is a managed service so I wasn't coming at them with crazy requests or anything, but sometimes they simple just didn't have enough experience to understand what I was saying and asking for. So frustrating. Also second level support is much, much slower to respond even during an outage. The server configuration did not allow for easy setup of some common tools, one in particular is modern nodejs. After asking 3 different support people for help I concluded it was a futile effort as they didn't really understand. The best I could get was an ancient version of nodejs which didn't fit my requirement. Reason for choosing Cloudways Cloudways was chosen by another lead before I joined my current company. I thought I’d need to pay for their premium support but haven’t seen a need yet. Their people are amazing and easy to reach out to. 3) setting up staging sites is so easy. I have multiple ones too for different things. It’s great. 4) Great integration with GitHub as well. Cons It’s complicated to set up. Email doesn’t come with it, either does a domain. June 25, 2019 4.0 When Cloudways burst on the hosting scene, they were blazing a trail for low-cost, high performance VPS in a very easy to use package. The industry is catching up, and Cloudways has some solid competitors now. That said, my company has been with Cloudways for 2 years and we're not likely to switch hosting providers anytime soon. They keep releasing new features like staging sites, great deals on CDN and Email via RackSpace. The overall experience is worth sticking around! Pros Cloudways easy to use interface has been a breath of fresh air over cPanel. Their staging site feature is very handy (especially with E-Commerce sites), and you get great deals on CDN's, email hosting, and referral bonuses. There's lots of pro's to discuss, like in-built server security and caching features that you don't have to manage via command line. You do however, get lots of settings to tweak should you need! Cons I only have one issue with Cloudways, and that's hit or miss support. Often support agents are very helpful and get to the bottom of your issue, but there are times when it feels like it's the rep's first day on the job. That said, this issue has been happening less and less over time, and I suspect Cloudways got the memo to improve their agent training. Haven't had any reps be rude, knock on wood! They have an excellent hosting service which delivers a ton of value. I have been pleased with their service, so I am recommending them to anyone who is not afraid to do a little setup on their own. Which, I might add, is easy-peasy if you like a bit of tech. Pros I like the fact that I can pay little... And get MUCHO! They charge very little for the specifications they give. Better than WP-Engine, and at a lower price. I spend a few months browsing hosting companies before I landed on them. They have been good to me most of the time. Nobody is perfect, but the tech is. And support is mostly great as well. Cons In the beginning, support was swift, like a push of a button... Nowadays, they have a a little more to do. This results in waiting for the users. When you are new to the platform, you may need more support. I don't use it much now, but I did chat a bit back and forth with them on several occasion. Now, you can expect to wait a bit before an agent is ready to talk, and while you do, you can expect to wait a bit after you have typed what you needed to in the chat. It's way better and easier to use than any other server/cloud/hosting company. Pros I've been using CloudWays for a long time now, basically since they started and never had any issues so far. They always have good deals for new users, and prices have always been really good for the service they provide. You can pay as you go, which means that you only pay for what you use. They definitely make the life of a developer way easier, making it easy for anyone (even if you don't have experience) to install any CMS and/or PHP based system. Ohhh and let's not forget.. their customer service is a 10/10. Cons So far I have not found anything bad about CloudWays, specially now that they just updated their website making it faster and even easier to use. Definitely a great option for those who aren't well versed with server management. Some notable features that were rolled out on Cloudways include Redis Object Cache Pro, Cloudflare Enterprise Add-on and Safe Updates. Cons The stack on Cloudways is a bit dated and does not deliver the kind of real-world results one would expect from an application in 2022 - particularly considering the premium you pay for resources. The Cloudflare Enterprise add-on sounds exciting, the reality is you only get limited configuration options and routing. While Cloudways claims that the agreement with Cloudflare provides access to all 270+ data centres and premium routing, the reality is far from it. None of the Middle East PoPs are available to customers who use the the Cloudflare add-on via Cloudways - and that eventually translates to 1.5s+ TTFB in most regions (except NA and EU). Pros The dashboard is incredibly friendly to use, and has a lot of features. Deep integration with server providers means almost anything you would ever need to do can be handled through the dashboard. Cloning, staging and backups are especially good. Cons The price is steep, especially for more powerful servers. Basically double the upstream provider cost.Also, cloudways own the server er you use. It is provisioned under their account, not yours. So if you ever leave cloudways you must move server, you can't just disconnect cloudways. I tried this out for a few months and even though I had to switch to a better alternative (for some reason), Cloudways works perfectly. Pros Some of the impeccable features that set Cloudways apart from the crowd are the pay-as-you-go and no-lock-in business model. It's a nice pricing model as it doesn't oblige the customer to any long-term commitment.Cloudways is super fast too and outperforms in terms of security and resources. even with the shared VPS options, it runs pretty fast Cons First and foremost, Cloudways only offers 3 day free trial for new customers- sincerely, how well will test its services in just 3 days?Additionally, the pricing tiers for VPS hosting are pretty high too (especially as I get the same quality of service with the digital ocean).The live support service is not friendly, they take longer time to respond and they always seem to be too busy and this gives me the impression that other clients are more valued than others. From the get-go, I can easily choose a server, select a WordPress installation package, and get started. It's so quick and easy because they take care of the server management, so I can focus on running my business. I have used cloudways for a few of my websites and it is the best way to manage your web applications. The cost is affordable and it is a great place to start if you are managing your websites yourself. Highly Recommended, especially for those whose websites are based on WordPress CMS. Pros \- Support staff (live chat and email) are quick, extremely helpful, and actually quite knowledgeable - The admin panel makes it easy to move/stage/clone apps, and scale your servers on the fly - A number of one-click installs available (WordPress, Laravel, etc.) - Great pricing (small margins above base DigitalOcean pricing) Cons No reseller/agency options available. Pros For as long as I can remember, its not been easy to deploy cloud software without having deep knowledge about cloud computing and administration skills. Cloudways takes all those hassles and bundles it into a single web hosing company that provides hosting services from some of the best names in the business. Google, Amazon AWS, Vultr, Linode, and Digital Ocean. I personally use Vultr and its very easy to use and provides great value for the money. Recommended. Cons With companies like this, there are a lot of issues. Unlike cpanel/shared hosting where I was coming from I never had to pay for custom emails or backups, they always took care of DNS for me too and I didn't have to pay. Pros I have paid hundreds and thousand of dollars for servers for my websites that don't come near the speed and quality I get with coulways. And the price is something to consider heavily. You can select a very cheap server and have your "applications" up and running in literaly less than 5 minutes. You can transfers your wordpress websites (or blogs) in a matter of minutes with a free plugin that they provide. Their support is way over than awesome. I have asked so many questions, I have requested so many things and all I get from them is a very nice reply and a a fast response. your websites will be FASTER!!!!
