A must-have if you are a professional translator. But it has small bugs and could be easier to use.

Pros: If you are or intend to be a professional translator, you must have a CAT Tool. And when it comes to CAT Tools, Trados Studio is the biggest reference.

It's pricey and you may think it's too much money to invest in a software. Well, if you work full-time with translations, it will pay off!

It makes your job so much easier, faster and more consistent that you will catch yourself adding even very small files to your Trados prior to translate, just to make sure you can benefit from your own Memory Translation and Quality Check tools.

In addition to all those pros, it's important to mention that it's a reference in this industry, so if you are willing to work for translation agencies, they will eventually ask if you have a valid Trados license and start sending your Trados projects, instead of a .xls or .doc file.

Cons: In spite of all the advantages and pros of using Trados for work, it still has some bugs that really bother the user.

My Trados will crash and close at least once a day or every two days. Fortunately, since all translations are copied string by string to my MT on the go, these crashes normally do not cause me to lose any job, but it's still an annoying waste of time to re-open the software every time.

It is not so straightforward as it could be when you want to add a new file to a project or do some other actions on it.

After all, it's one of those incredible powerful tools that you will take time to master (and, after 4 years working with it, I still discover new functions every month, feeling that those could be clearer and easier to be seen/found).

Overall: It's a great and necessary tool for professional translators.

However, it's expensive and still has some minor bugs that simply shouldn't be there, given the fact we are talking about a leader from its industry with so many years of expertise involved.

Pros: Trados is a productivity tool that is indispensable for professional translators. It is the preferred platform of the industry and many clients require its use. Therefore, it is a good investment for professional translators. It has batch processing features and filtering options which aid in quality control and increase productivity.

Cons: The filtering functions could be better/more complex. I have experienced quite a few bugs over the years. Easily accessible customer support costs extra. Finding direct help from Trados without paying for the support package is like pulling teeth. Luckily, so many people use the software, it is usually easy and quick to find troubleshooting tips through online forums.

Overall: Productivity, brings me business.

Pros: Trados Studio offers a steep learning curve. Within a few days after starting, you will be able to work efficiently and the user interface is quite fool-proof. There is a lot of information available online should you run into any issues with file formats or other matters that seem to be a hurdle to you.

Cons: At first I was taken aback a bit by the price, however, considering that thanks to using the programme you will be able to work faster and more efficiently, your investment will soon pay off.

Overall: Overall, I have had a very positive working experience with Trados Studio in the past 3 years. I like the optional add-ons available from SDL's website to help you automate certain tasks.

Pros: SDL Trados Studio is THE tool we use on a daily basis to manage most of our translation projects. It is powerful and I still have to come across a file type which Studio could not process. The SDL App Store is also a huge benefit and the integration of plug-ins just makes our work even faster. Want to be an efficient Language Service Provider? Then get yourself a SDL Trados Studio license!

Cons: I wish one could export selected segments for review. Also, a more flexible segment sorting would be much appreciated

Overall: SDL Trados helps us manage any project of any size, whatever files need to be processed. This is the 'Swiss knife' of the translation industry!

Pros: Abundant with features. There are features you will use only once a year, but it can save your day.

Cons: The price is a bit too steep with constant new versions (every two years or so)

Overall: I have been using it since 2007 version and I must say it is the best CAT tool on the market. It has many features the standard user will never use, but it can help you with your translation tasks tremendously. It might be a bit difficult for non-tech-savvy translators at first, but trust me, you can learn to use it proficiently in less than an hour :) However, the biggest issue is the steep price, that is why many translators use to work with cheaper solutions undermining SDL's position in the long-term.

Pros: I, as a translator, would say it's the most popular tool among translators. So you can trust - it's legit. Another advantage - you can translate almost any kind of text thanks to Trados. Besides, it available for companies, or for individuals. Quick to install.

Cons: Since it's legit and so popular, sure you must pay for it. Good things cost money. I don't want to say it should be for free, but a bit less. {on the contrary, to myself- if the company wants to keep the high quality of the programme, it has to pay all the IT specialists who work on it}.

Another thing - if you want to start to use it on your own, you really have to read, watch and do everything else to understand how to use it properly.

Overall: I'll summarise it short - experience is really good. If there's anything bad, then it depends only on our, translators, mood :)

Pros: - The Office-suite-look user interface makes the tool seem really familiar and user-friendly.

- Trados Studio has improved over time and has been implementing new useful filters for the most common file formats that make them a reference CAT tool in the sector.

Cons: - Misses some powerful and advanced functionalities, especially to work with software files such as .resx, for that you need to turn to Passolo, also from the SDL family.

Pros: Trados is one of the most commonly used translation software out there. What I like about Trados is that it remembers phases that I have used previously so I can create a more consistent translation which alone is a huge time saver.

Cons: Occasionally it freezes up it is also expensive. If you are working for an agency your agency might be able to offer you a different software free of charge.

Been using SDL Trados for years now - very happy and will continue to use it.

Pros: It does what it needs to and it does it well. Very well recognized name with other vendors so easy to find people who use it.

Cons: Sometimes the updates and licensing can be a bit of a pain.

Unless you pay extra the support turn around time can be a bit slow (but they are always friendly and will do everything they can for you)

Overall: Translations are done better and faster.

Initially difficult to get the hang of it but after just a few projects became easy and automatic.

Pros: After you've learned most features, you realise all the great qualities, for example, creating a translation memory or your own terminology database basically using any languages you work with, while also providing different specialised fields where you can save them according to your own categories. It adds up to an incredible time saver that increases your productivity, which is also accountable, because it keeps track of how many words you've translated and also tells you how much further you have to go.

Cons: I would have to say its incompatibility with other softwares. You cannot share translation memories or any other documents with non Trados users.

Overall: The possibility to work freelance more efficient and effectively while also being hired independently by companies that use the same software

Pros: Allows to work with MS Word documents, PowerPoint presentations, HTML-documents and files of other formats. Trados has a module for glossaries. Although I'm not an interpreter, but an editor, I still enjoy using the application.

Cons: At first there were difficulties with the interface, but after a few days I got used to it and all the questions disappeared.

Pros: Productivity boost, PDF reader, ease of use, great design.

Cons: The price point.

Overall: In my opinion, SDL Trados is the most complete CAT tool on the market.

As well as offering basic features such as automatic alignment and adaptive TMs, the more advanced functionalities such as AutoSuggest, PerfectMatch or termbase integration will greatly boost your productivity.

It also offers some project management and preparation capabilities, which do come in handy.

Further useful plug ins and apps can be found on the SDL AppStore, although purchasing the individual licenses can get pricy.

All in all, a great proudct, though there are cheaper CAT tools out there .

Pros: Translation Memory management is great, userinterface is friendly and doesn't take long getting used to.

Cons: Processing PDF files can be a paint, sometimes impossible. Performance could be improved, maybe opt in for hardware accelleration? Definitely missing OCR option - I belive it is a must. Segmentation of documents could be improved, a lot of the times text loses sence due to segmentation.

Pros: In everyday situations I use this program. It is imperfect, but it gives a better result than the translators from Google. I am pleased with the simple interface and nice design. At the same time, the program has good functionality and remembers the previous translation (it allows inserting already finished pieces at full or partial coincidence).

Cons: Translation is imperfect, as in any other automated translation system. I would like to improve the translation of the artistic text.

Pros: Rich in features and functionalities. The support for community-made add-ons that solve various problems or improve (facilitate) functionality.

Cons: Trados has the steepest learning curve among the leading CAT tools, and managing even a simple setting can be quite a challenge. I have to say I hate the fact the in order to be able to work with terminology, you are required to purchase a separate - and costly - tool.

Overall: I only use Trados (I started using it back in 2006, now using version 2017) when I am required by an agency. This is not because I don't know how to, on the contrary, I can and have taught people how to work with it. But the result is invariably the same: they are dumbfounded by its complexity, especially after comparing it to other tools.

Pros: The program is simply indispensable for all those who professionally translate. It is convenient to work with Word and PDF. The interface is clear, you can quickly understand all the functions. There is a module for connecting dictionaries.

Cons: The program should be purchased by professionals and those who earn remittances. Like any other CAT tool, Trados is not suitable for literary translations. From technical shortcomings - the program takes up a lot of space.

Pros: Very useful when you get to find a version that works.

Cons: Amazing number of bugs in any version. One version corrects previous bugs, and adds even worse ones.

Overall: Negative due to the amount of bugs. This is a relatively simple piece of software, but the number of problems reported by the users defies imagination. In addition, it ends up to be as expensive as 5 licences of MS Office Pro, which is infinitely more complex and has a fraction of the problems.

Pros: The program has an intelligent memory that allows it to extract and quickly translate familiar pieces of text. This is a very convenient function, which is little implemented. It was she who caused my acquaintance with this system. I recommend.

Cons: Absolutely useless for ordinary non-professional literature. This is not a translator in the classical sense. The program remembers what the translator has already translated. This point of many is misleading.

Pros: Its abundance in features to simplify and accelerated a translator's work is the best thing about. How you can file any segments, languages, terminology used, fields within languages, etc. And you can actually measure and see your productivity, wordcount, etc., while you are working on each project.

Cons: It takes a while to get the hang of it and to effectively benefit from all its features. Several tutorials where needed.

Overall: Really good for working with/for other companies, sharing TMs and making accurate budgets or calculating estimates because you can see how much you work and how many words or segments were new.

Pros: The only real benefit I see to using Trados is that a lot of people use it, so as a linguist it would be a great tool to have just to be able to work on projects for clients that use Trados.

Cons: This software is so expensive! Honestly, I believe it is seriously overpriced. It is SO difficult and complicated to use, completely NOT intuitive or user friendly. It takes a lot of time to learn how to use it well and to maximize the benefits and features. There are often unexplainable bugs that can slow down projects and make life plain frustrating.

Overall: I have never had a great experience with Trados. Yes, it is capable of a lot, but it costs so much time to be able to learn how to effectively use it, and for the number of errors and problems you can come across while trying to figure it out, it's completely not worth it.

Pros: I constantly use the memory accumulation function - it's a very convenient thing that saves time. At first it was necessary to get used, but now I really understand that this is a professional tool and an approach to it is necessary corresponding. You can't completely rely on the program.

Cons: Difficulties with the translation of the books. There, the same fragments are very rare. This makes the system almost useless. I also searched for it for a long time, but I still could not find ready-made databases of formalized texts.
