### "Quicken - A User Friendly Budgeting Tool"

October 10, 2024

4.0

Our overall experience with Quicken has been positive. It helps us keep our financial information organized in one place which makes it easier to make sure we are on track with our budget.

Pros

Quicken is very user friendly. I enjoy the ease of separating our money into the different budget categories and the convenience of being able to search for expenditures based on the category they were put in.

Cons

I have occasionally had trouble when a check is written incorrectly and needs to be reprinted. I feel that there could be an easier process for voiding and reprinting checks.

### "No Download Window to Match Transactions"

September 27, 2024

2.0

Over time and especially recently I have literally spent many days trying to get Quicken to work for me without success as measured by having registers balance with my Bank and other credit card companies. Without a manual way to select, delete and match downloading transactions with those already entered into my desktop computer register, I can't routinely keep my account balanced. For me, it is a fatal flaw that caused me to stop the automatic renewal after a 2nd year.

Pros

The hope that I could transfer my decades of data from "Quicken for the Mac 2007" to Quicken Classic Premier, for which I still have a subscription until Jul 2025.

Cons

Unlike Quicken for the Mac 2007, there is no pop-up window to show presently downloaded transactions before they are entered into the register. There is no practical way that I can match scheduled or other transactions already entered into my register with downloaded ones. Duplicate transactions are the result, and we are expected to regularly review our registers to combine duplicate transactions. That is time consuming and impractical.

### "Quicken review"

October 19, 2024

4.0

It meets most of my needs, but it seems that some features don't function.

Pros

It compared to Mint in function. And I was able to import my data.

Cons

The user interface is less appealing than Mint.

Mint was discontinued by Intuit. I was not looking to change. I did some comparison shopping and chose Quicken.

### "May Not Be Easy For A Typical User"

August 19, 2024

4.0

I have used Quicken for over five years and I have like using it, however, I have recently been shopping around for other options that allow me to take my finances online. I have seen Quicken has an online option now and I will be considering that when making the switch.

Pros

You are able to setup Quicken to sync transactions with your various bank and financial institutions. If you have the skills and proper data entered, you are able to run reports with valuable information.

Cons

Quicken isn't always user friendly. I'm an accountant who has worked with many financial software, so I can work my way through it, but it isn't always user friendly. I also do not love how Quicken treats transfers between accounts as income and expense.

Switched from

[Microsoft Excel](https://www.capterra.com/p/176574/Excel/)

I needed something that was already built to handle the level of accounting work I needed. Excel is fantastic but takes a lot of time to build tables and reports and have everything flow properly. Quicken did an excellent job in handling the work I needed.

### "Straightforward and Functional, but Feels Outdated"

November 8, 2024

4.0

Pros

I use Quicken for bookkeeping. One of the biggest advantages is how easy it is to copy and paste previous entries—it saves a lot of time on entering similar repetitive expenses. I also appreciate the ability to set up recurring monthly payments, bills, and expenses, which simplifies my workflow significantly. There’s also a good amount of customization options.

Cons

the software does feel a bit dated. The version we’re using looks and operates like something from the early 2000s, which can make it feel clunky compared to newer software. Despite this, I like QuickBooks overall—it’s nothing fancy, but it gets the job done in a straightforward way.

### "The Gold Standard for Personal Financial management"

August 16, 2024

5.0

I've been using Quicken since the late 1980's. It has always been the gold standard for personal financial software, and I don't believe it has any real competition. Quicken integrates well with major financial institutions, and when I combine it with TurboTax, it makes filing my taxes easy and reliable. The product is constantly being upgraded and improved. I can't imagine keeping up with my household finances, retirement savings, and tax records without it.

Pros

My favorite feature is the ability to connect and download transactions from banks, brokerages, and credit cards. These updates make it so easy to keep up with my personal finances.

Cons

The program is so robust that it can be a little complicated sometimes. But the truth is, that is a strength that is worth the time to learn to use.

### "Quicken Home & Business 2022 Review"

November 25, 2022

5.0

We use this software for the accounting of my wife's small business and financial reporting needs for select government programs. This is the best accounting software for a small business owner/sole proprietor in the market today. We have been using this program for nearly ten years.

Pros

I like the updated tax tables and current regulatory database for up-to-date tax prep tax schedules and deductions. It is easy to input transactions, categorize them, and get a running balance with ease.

Cons

My least favorite thing about this software is that it now requires a subscription instead of buying the program for a set price.

### "Ideal for My Solorpreneur Marketing Consulting Business "

March 13, 2022

5.0

I am very pleased with the ease of entering data into the system. It saves me the cost of having a bookkeeper. I am able to categorize expenses myself and take full advantage of knowing what i was buying for business and for personal life. I know it is saving my a lot on my taxes, as I have proof of my deductions versus just guessing. It used to take me days to prepare my docs for my CPA not it is in a matter of hours I have all the numbers she will need.

Pros

The best feature I like is the way you can split items on a receipt into their own categories. For example, I go to Walgreens and buy cosmetics, copy paper, thank you notes, and business head shot photo prints. I enter Walgreens for the Payee, then I assign / split where the expenses will go in my categories. Cosmetic - Personal Care, Copy Paper, thank you notes - Business: Office Supplies, Photo prints - Business: Photography. I make my tax reporting a breeze for my Schedule C line items. I also love generating reports on income and expenses. Great for planning or estimating funds for seasonal work loads.

Cons

It actually has more features than I want to use. For example - the investment section, I tried to use it - but to enter buy - sell information and dividends and details was way too time consuming for me. I just as soon get my reports from my brokerage firm.

Switched from

[QuickBooks Online](https://www.capterra.com/p/190778/QuickBooks-Online/)

I was told to use Quickbooks, but when I tried it - it was way too complex for me. I do not like to generate invoices in the accounting software - which Quickbooks is big on. I stopped using it, and I went to the simpler more basic Quicken for Home, Business and Rental Property. Expenses and Income in and reports out. Bingo. It has served me well.

### "Poor Customer service"

March 28, 2024

2.0

I have used Quicken for more than 10 years. In the past few years, the Quality of the updates has been poor and the price has gone up. Customer service has declined in Boise office. Guatemala service is better but still language problem. Do not start with Quicken Home and Business! Letter to the current \[sensitive content hidden\] of Quicken I have contacted Quicken, according to your records at least 6 times this year 2024. I have been a customer for at least a dozen years. The problem was finally resolved today 3/11/2024. It was related to files that go back in time and or the size of the file. I cannot imagine it is the size nor the date, it just does not make sense to me. However today, thanks to a person in Guatemala it was resolved after approx 2 hrs. I really am upset that after speaking with a person in Boise last week for almost 2 hrs (#10890242) I was told it was an issue with my computer. I believed him, because I had spoken with numerous to Quicken support on that issue and the renaming error issue. I have spoken with \[sensitive content hidden\] at your Boise office and they have extended my subscription for 6 mos. That is the best they can do for me! \[sensitive content hidden\], did confirm when looking at the notes I was told by the agent. That it was a problem with my computer blocking and I should take it in and get it checked. I did take it in! But going back to the issue of my time and not correct advice, I spent $175.00 to have my computer checked, I was told by your employee that was the issue. It was not, according to \[sensitive content hidden\], the correct procedure was to escalate the problem. That was not done according to the notes, case #10890242. If it would have been escalated, I would not have incurred the expense. I still would have 15 or 20 hours of my time. I have to keep Quicken to run the rental properties I own. I need the data in case I am audited. So I would have to switch to another program or continue with Quicken. I would prefer to stay as switching would require substantial time and effort for a 74 year old person. My time and for that part yours, on the support time is probably 15 hours or more. That does not include my hold time or the issue that I now have to add back all the passwords to the institutions and double check to make sure there are no issues. If you do not think that is fair, then I will have no choice but to continue with Quicken. But I will let other users know of my difficulties when they choose companies like yourself. I do hope this note will help you in the future, as far as training and obvious flaws in the computer program. I have run many companies including a number of my own. It is not the money, it is my time! I also always wanted feedback from my customers to help me improve my companies and our services. I am sure you also want that for your many companies.

Pros

Was easy now difficult especially after updates

Cons

The value has gone out the window, I think this happened when they were bought

### "Is there anything out there other than Quicken?????"

March 8, 2018

1.0

If I could give less than 1 star I would! I have been a huge supporter of Quicken in the past. I encouraged my kids and clients and anyone that would listen to use Quicken. Sorry! I have now gone to using my online banking bill pay through my bank which is free!

Pros

This used to be a great product! I have used it since 1993 to track my business finances and investments. It really helps at tax time.

Cons

Support is worse than non-existent. It is March 8th and I have been trying to get support since the first week in January. I was on the phone with a rep for 2 hours trying to get bill pay to work. I was told to hang on I need to ask my manager about that and then hung up on. I tried chatting and was told that you cannot use chat for online bill pay. Called the support number and was told that there is a special number for online bill pay. I called that number and was told by the rep that I needed to go to quickenbillpay.com but he would stay on the line and would call me back if I got disconnected. That was a week ago. Still havent gotten at call. Went through the insutructions on the quickenbillpay.com website to set up a new account and it indicated it would take 2 -3 days to set up an account and I would receive 2 transactions on my bank statement from them. Check my statement and then come back and enter those figures to confirm I own the account. That was 6 days ago and still no transactions. Yesterday I received an email that I must send in 1. My drivers License. 2. My Social Security Card. 3. my most recent utility bill from water, gas, or electric company only. 4. A voided check from each account I want to use. Sounds like an internet scam to me. I called quicken and explained I wasn't comfortable sending all of this over the internet and by the way I have been paying for your services for 25 years and now you want all of this info. Their response is quicken was sold and that they are a new company and they have to have the info or no bill pay services! No wonder they bill pay services are now included in the Premier package. No one can use it! The bad part is I have all of my payments for cars, houses, utilities, credit cards set up for auto pay using quicken bill pay. Now I have to find another way to get them paid because it has taken 2 months and I still am not set up for bill pay. By the way they don't tell you this is what happens when you download Quicken 2018. Beware!

### "Una buena solución para las finanzas personales"

May 18, 2023

5.0

### "A great tool for any small business or nonprofit"

December 16, 2022

5.0

Quicken is great in my experience, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a program that is easy to learn, user-friendly, and not cumbersome.

Pros

Quicken provides all the tools that many small businesses and most small nonprofits would need to track their expenses and to provide reporting to different departments. It's very user-friendly and easy to learn, but can get quite messed up if the data going in is not entered appropriately. Trust me on that one!The reports are simple to run, and provide all of the information that I have needed in a small nonprofit.

Cons

I really don't have complaints about Quicken for the youth and the reports that I need it for. I'm sure that a larger company would not find it appropriate but for a smaller one it is perfect because the price is right, it's easy to use, and it's easy for reporting.

### "Its all about the profits now......"

February 13, 2018

2.0

Although I am sounding as though I am resistant to forwarding technology, I am not. There are just certain things that I feel should be more protected and so far, technology has failed to prevent hackers and identity thieves from accessing peoples information due to companies insistence in having our information all over the internet and web. There was nothing wrong with the old QUICKEN but greed is no playing a part in the new QUICKEN that separated from INTUIT.

Pros

I loved it when it was an actual software that could be purchased and had no yearly subscription fee. Prior to them separating from Intuit, this was my software of choice. Ease of use and the ability to choose to have your information inaccessible to internet hackers and not out there for anyone to see.

Cons

2007 saw the end of exceptional quality. Went from a software that you can purchase and utilize without having to pay a yearly subscription to a for profit only software with yearly subscription in 2017-2018 update. Now if you want to use this software you have to pay for it yearly. 2007 utilized an update that caused major issues with previous versions. The font became too large to fit in the windows that popped up, the reconciliation failed to work properly, did not give accurate numbers.(Quicken blamed this on the PC Operating system....Funny, no other software on my PC had these issues). They refused to fix the issues they created and then came out with a new update that once you applied the update, 2017-2018, you had to start paying yearly or live with the issues that were created by the previous update. I now have fuzzy font, like old school DOS systems, and a yearly subscription for more bells and whistles that I will ever utilize. Not everyone wants to use mobile access and expose themselves to more and more risk of hackers to steal information.

### "User since the 1990's"

June 6, 2023

2.0

Since late 2022 it has been horrible.

Pros

I have always liked how easy it was to learn and use Quicken. Getting started is easy.

Cons

In the last year Quicken changed their product so it only works on one computer. I have used Quicken for over a decade with OneDrive as the main storage for the database and more recently my own personal server. This made using Quicken essential for travel between my office, my home and on my laptop during travel outside the country or on family vacation.Quicken no longer allows this type of functionality and only allows you to store the main database on a local 'C' drive. Yes, you can copy and paste the database onto another computer (if you remember to do so before leaving), but then you need to re-sign into all your financial institutions. Unfortunately, the product is no longer business friendly and has rolled back to twentieth century technology when people only had one computer to use.Why programmers made this horrible decision is beyond me since almost everything has moved to cloud based programming or allows you to store and use a database from an online storage platform.

### "Lack of availability for Mac"

August 11, 2018

5.0

I cannot say more than I already have. I’ve had to save information on my Mac and then pick it up on my PC just to send an invoice. This is inconvenient. It takes time that could be better off spend doing other things. Please, Quicken, bring Home and Business to Mac. Also, allow the ability to edit previous entries. I’ve noticed issues in the past that could have been easily fixed with an edit button, but you cannot. This should be fixed. As the leader in accounting software, it should have more features available than it does.

Pros

Quicken seems to be the go-to accounting software in the industry, so naturally we went with it. We were very happy with Quicken, as it is easy to teach to our new employees. I also really like the seamlessness of the program between a Mac and a PC. My laptop is a Mac while my home computer is a PC, and I find that the program itself is very similar on both platforms, and thus very easy to use. However, we initially intended to purchase Quicken for Home and Business, but it is not available for Mac, so we had to take a step back and purchase Quicken Premier. This was more than slightly annoying, but we managed to make it work.

Cons

The lack of availability of Home and Business for Mac is a big con for me. The Home and Business program allows for custom invoices, which would look really good for our small business. We also wanted the ability to track our profit and loss, so we purchased it for my home computer. We can still send out the custom invoices on our PCs, but it would be a lot easier if it were available for Mac. Hopefully, there will be an option to purchase Home and Business in the future for Mac.

### "Excellent for Blended families and small business"

February 16, 2024

4.0

My only issue getting started was 'Adding' an account. Followed every step to frustration almost cancelling subscription. Finally I phoned customer service and they were amazing! Took over screen and walked me through. Ended up being my display on the Mac, once corrected worked great!

Pros

For $80 Cdn / year this is a fantastic program for blended families with multiple sources of income and complicated expenditures that require organizing. As a lay financial planner, with a rental property and a second marriage, I have spent way too much time trying to organize the finances. What has taken me literally days to do on a spreadsheet has taken me 3 or 4 hours on Quicken. Monthly expenditures and small business management will likely take me 2 to 3 hours a month now, at most. Once you organize your Transaction Payees into Categories (a few hours the first time) you never need to do that step again! Spending charts / pie graphs are clear and 'quickly' ... you know where the money is going, almost to the moment. The program was super easy to show my wife how it works and unnecessary stressors have been eliminated.

Cons

I say almost because transactions from the bank are not simultaneously dropped into your application. Even if you update the account (refresh) it can take time for the new transactions to show up. Apparently the web app doesn't have this issue but the downloaded desk top version does. For me, no issue, but for someone who requires immediate updates it might be a problem.

### "Quicken is the Grand-Daddy of Personal Finance Tools, I can't Quit It."

June 7, 2024

4.0

I've used Quicken for such a long time, It would be difficult to switch to an alternative. I general it works for me, and I see no evidence which indicates I should check into alternatives.

Pros

It is highly evolved for tracking personal expenditures, and the performance of personal investments.

Cons

The smallest price point at which I can get it, is rather high. I wish it had more tailored pricing based upon the features you need.
