As a small business owner that has only 6 employees, but jobs from cost to cost, it's great to have such a versatile financial package that can be edited across clients and consultants. Pros This integrates with just about everything. Whether it's importing from office or connecting to online XML streams, Quicken is able to pull data intuitively and accurately. Cons It can be overly complicated. I really like that I can make invoices as well. The reporting is well featured and intuitive. Cons The thing I don't like is that I've been with their tech support a few times. They are terrifically slow. For example, I'll chat with them online and literally spend 3 hours at a time and get no where. Eventually I have to go because I have other things to do. Then a few weeks later another 3 hours. In the end they blame it on a corrupted file. They refused to help me with that. Review Source AF Allen F. If their price hadn't doubled, I probably would continue using Quicken. Pros Ability to handle stocks and banks. Ability to balance bank and stock accounts. Cons They made it so one HAS to pay the equivalent of a brand new copy every year. I had stand-alone copies for twenty+ years. Then they said every three years one needed to buy a new copy. Then yearly subscription. Subscription was the equivalent of new purchase every other year. Now every year. My accounts were never balanced, nor was there a way to balance my mutual accounts. I would like both my money and my time back (3 weekends wasted) No Quicken Support exists. Cons Quicken has fallen very far. It used to be THE name in personal financial software. It has gotten too big and too old and needs a serious overhaul. We went through the 7 hours long painful process of linking all our accounts to the software (banking, credit cards, investments, etc) but the software cannot connect with any banks or firms reliably. It brings in duplicate transactions or no transactions and the balances are never right. I have wasted several weekends trying to wrestle with this software. Quicken blames the banks, but really how can multiple national banks be wrong when Quicken is the company we are paying for this service. It's their job to get it right, not blame every bank in America for poor connectivity. The investment and retirement planning tools simply do not work. Adjust your retirement age from 65 to 70... nothing changes. Add your current 401k deferral rate: it says you will have zero net worth at retirement. Support? There is no support for Quicken. Unless you call the phone number during business hours and hold for 30 minutes. There is no email support. Quicken admits it discontinued email support in 2013 to 'better serve customers'. Sure. The Community Support posting site is not even run by Quicken, you need to sign up for www.getsatisfaction.com to post any issues. Money completely wasted. Run far away from this product. If you do not need multi users function, Quicken is a good option for bookkeeping job. Cons The software sometimes crashes for no reason especially working with big files. In addition, my version (2017) does not have multi users function, which is a limitation of the Quicken. Make sure you do back up file every single time because when the Quicken files getting bigger, it's easier to crash. Review Source jF john F. It's quirky and the categories tools are unstable and mediocre. The software runs poorly in windows 10 and makes the computer unstable. Working with Quicken takes extreme patience. Pros It was cheap and no monthly fees or subscription gimmicks that raise the price of the software. Cons The software is unstable in Windows 10; frequent crashes, bad outdated interface, poor management tools especially categories. Constantly relabels categories, payees disappear and the whole thing constantly falls back to default. Many crashes, indicating lack of compatibility with Windows 10. Pros It was a great product when I first started my business as it was simple and cost effective. It was a great way to level up from just using spreadsheets for a small business owner. Cons As my business grew, I needed a lot more control over tracking the details of billing, and for paying vendors and contractors. It's not as user friendly as Quickbooks in my opinion, but it has more in depth features for those who want to get deep into accounting for their business. Definitely a really high quality product! Pros The thing I like the most about Quicken is all the features - it's very professional and can put you on the same tier as accountants! Any type of chart, graph or table you want to make, you can make. While this is great for those with more of an understanding of accounting, it's too much for me :) Cons For me, Quicken was honestly a little too complex. After using it for a few years, I switched to another Intuit product - Quickbooks Self Employed online. When it doesn't it is completely useless see below for my more explicit observations Cons Twice Quicken 2018 has lost data. The first time was when I simply ran a One Step Update. The second when I added an existing checking account. Each time deposits were completely lost, categories missing, Payee names changed, and split info was lost Quicken support solution: Make sure I back up my data!!!!! It would not hold up to rigorous accounting but is good for simple, basic stuff. Pros The fact that you can download transactions and rapidly categorize them is important. It also has lots of instant reporting capabilities built in. Cons I don't like that they have pushed everyone into a subscription model vs. a stand-alone software license like they used to have. This forces you to upgrade each year even if you don't need/want the new features. How many issues does the software have that a person needs an annual contract with a customer service department? Pros Product has been reliable. Have been using it for years. Most financial organizations support the product. Cons Had issue with Quicken deluxe. Went to customer service. Options were 35 minute wait for a chat line or 50 minute wait for telephone support. Cons Downloads from Financial Services Accounts reconciliation is it not intuitive. Pros \- Almost too many categories for budgeting and tracking transactions. - Excellent integration with online accounts (ex. banking, credit card, loans) - Multiple options to create a custom dashboard for a quick picture of your current financial situation. - Automatic transaction downloads and Quicken recognizes and assigns most transactions to specific categories. Cons \- Almost too many categories for budgeting and tracking transactions. This can be overwhelming when trying to set up a simple budget. Thankfully there are options for managing how categories are assigned, it just takes a little bit of time and trial and error. - More advanced features such as loan pay off planning are not as intuitive or automatic as the basic banking features and require some prior knowledge or a good google search to figure out.
