March 11, 2018 4.0 Pros Comprehensive online translation memory and translation management system that works on every platform and with every browser eliminating the need for installing software, shipping dongles or requiring specialized hardware to operate. This eliminates much overhead and enables recruiting translators pretty much all over the world where an internet connection can be established. All translation assets and instructions can be shared online without the need to email or download files, TMs, glossaries, knowledge bases... It does address most benefits listed on our requirement list. Cons Pricey! Expect you to pay for a full year in advance or charge a ridiculous markup (20+% VAR) for quarterly payments! The solution can be semi-customized but some functions are not configurable requiring relying on their internal technical staff which can also be very pricey. Legacy TMs although can be imported will not generate similar fuzzy matches due to limited TM configuration abilities and internal tag differences making it very hard to transition legacy TMs for ongoing updates. Its cluttered interface, snail-paced functionality, and bizarre quirks turn everyday tasks into a linguistic nightmare. The only positive is its automated invoicing, hardly enough to offset the daily frustration. Pros Engaging with one of our regular clients, we've been forced to endure Wordbee as our digital albatross, hanging around our necks on a near-daily basis. The so-called "beautiful collaborative tool" is, from our standpoint, nothing short of a spectacular disaster. Let's start with the interface: it’s a blast from the past—and not in a good way. This tool moves at a glacial pace, and the TM/TB search pane is an exercise in optical strain, frequently slicing off longer matches as if they’re going out of style. The editor is a joke, refusing to let you view all segments at once. If you enjoy watching paint dry, you'll love the search function here—it's about as quick. Don't even get me started on the QA process. Prepare to run your checks thrice over, only for Wordbee to slap you with a big "incomplete, cannot deliver job"! Mercifully, there are two ways to export XLIFFs—but that's where the blessings end. Some keyboard shortcuts for diacritics end up triggering random functions instead, adding to the "fun"! From a linguistic perspective, Wordbee has an appetite for punctuation, gobbling it up into its tags beyond your reach, which is utterly maddening for any and all projects. The tool seems to be designed with a mythical linguist in mind—certainly none that I've ever met—and I'm baffled that the authors actually managed to sell it to anyone. It's easy to create import filters for your own resource files and process them. Translation memories can be in project memories that can then be moved into a larger translation memory after the project is completed. Cons Not the easiest to navigate through (number of clicks). A lot of energy has been spent on the CAT tools, which are nice - but as a buyer of localization services, we don't use them, except for validation or small corrections. To connect to a CMS system, you will need their Beebox addon. Their support can take a long time to respond. March 5, 2018 2.0 It's a TMS. There is no perfect TMS. Instead you choose the one closest to your business goals and work around its deficiencies. Pros Office and multi-lingual Excel filters are the best I've seen on the market. And I worked with SDL Worldserver, SDL TMS, XTM, Across, Smartling and Transifex. Also the ease in creating custom client portals is superb. There is a lot of hidden power in that feature. It has all the other bells an whistles you would expect of a mature TMS product. Cons The UI is bad. They should hire some professional UI designer and redo everything focusing on usability. There are way to many clicks to do stuff or get stuff; the buttons are all over the place and require to much mouse movement to get between them. The translation automation is severely lacking. Wordbee is called a TMS, but feels like a online CAT tool with half-cooked automation strapped on top of it. I mean come on the default translation project has everything manual. You have to click (a lot) to get analysis, jobs, TM update, etc. Nobody got time for this anymore in XXI century. The overall feeling is that Wordbee is very complicated, but not very complex. Integration with other tools and API make it even more powerful. Automation has significantly reduced manual labor in the translation process. Cons Lack of consistency across different areas of Wordbee. CAT tool can't compete with standalone tools. Distinction between Standard Projects and CoDyT Projects is confusing and limits automation capabilities. It reminds me a lot of other cat tools I have used in the past. It seems simplistic to use and the ease of using it may come in handy for project managers I come across. I like the Unity at creates in helping people across the globe Translate everything for their business. Overall pretty satisfied with the free trial. Pros Few online CAT tools do what WordBee does, it contains almost all the features an offline translation software has better still it allows you to monitor your progress or your teams progress in real time. I love how you can set deadlines and reminders to yourself or a team and a translator can comment inside the translation editor. Their QA is super advanced, it has multi-tiers of QA checks that ensure your file is super clean and error free. You also have the ability to import almost any type of files, check you word count, check your rates and invoice too. Cons Their pricing is not friendly especially when you factor other costs, namely internet. This tool requires a stable internet connection anytime you want to work on it. Team collaboration pricing is not so affordable either there is a limit to number of users you can have. Their pricing is yearly which means you gotta be ready to pay up every year. Pros \- Saving TM - MT+PE - Converting uneditable file format to editable format - Getting word count from uneditable file quickly - Submitting more than one files in one job - Submitting large files Cons \- the downloading of the translated files is not user-friendly in which an user needs to login to the platform and locate the download page Suggestion: it is much appreciated if a feature can be developed in which the translated file can be returned as an attachment of an email or a link inside an email for the user to download - not user-friendly in a way that an administrator needs to click on so many pages to make one change to a project - to try a new function or setting, an administrator needs to set it for a real job task. Cons There are some minor or problems with configurations, it costs too much, and there haven’t been any improvements or refinements in the last few years, but still an overall good product.
