### "Efficient, easy to use and excellent customer service. "

December 14, 2017

5.0

Pros

My introduction to DiscoverText demonstrated how it is an incredibly efficient, user-friendly platform that allows a remote team of coders based around the globe to collaborate and analyze textual data imported from Twitter. That's obviously huge, but DiscoverText has a variety of other advantages that sets it apart, including the ability to upload any text with metadata in a spreadsheet, being able to measure the reliability of coders who work synchronously or asynchronously, being able to rank coders over time (very unique), a "CoderRank" patent that accelerates machine-learning, SurveyMonkey being integrated so you can get data over the API (there's also DiscoverText API), no programming is necessary (just point and click), and above all else, DiscoverText is a platform that offers all of the tools needed to collect, clean, and analyze text data.

### "A great Tweet coding software platform for my research"

April 24, 2019

5.0

Great tool for analyzing texts from social media, especially Twitter. It makes it especially convenient to code large data sets of Tweets.

Pros

As a sociologist, I study online activism and social movements. DiscoverText has been a great way to collect and analyze Tweets related to various protest movements like #MeToo and #BlackLivesMatter.

Cons

It took a little time at first to get familiar with the platform, but once I spent some time going through the tutorials I got the hang of it.

### "Helpful software for capturing Twitter data"

July 5, 2022

5.0

Pros

Although there is a learning curve to the platform, I found the software easy to use and simple to integrate into coding procedures already in use. I have found this to be the most useful platform when conducting analyses of twitter data — especially when collecting the data from the twitter API.

Cons

There is a learning curve when it comes to the different elements of the platform. However, there are plenty of helpful resources to help manage.

### "This is a user-friendly software that allows researchers to easily code very large corpora. "

December 15, 2017

5.0

I was able to analyze a very large data set.

Pros

This is a user-friendly software that allows researchers to easily code very large corpora. Other datasets couldn't easily handle the data. Moreover, it is wonderful for e-rulemaking and public commentary.

Cons

It takes a bit of getting used to if you are segmenting your data into "buckets." After a bit of experimenting we easily began using Textifer!

### "DiscoverText is s great tool to gather, manage and export social media data"

September 11, 2018

5.0

I used DiscoverText for the first time around six months ago for a project, where we analyze historical Twitter data. In the beginning it was possible to schedule a web-training with DiscoverText, which was extremely helpful. For question that came up after the training, there were lots of videos and blogs that answered our questions. If we had any problems the DiscoverText team was extremely fast to reply to us and solving our issues.

Pros

\- Different team members can work on the same project - Easy to use, even if you haven't worked with similar softwares before - Machine-learning for semantic analysis of data - Excellent customer support

Cons

\- We had a very large projects with over millions of tweets so it took some time to load, but this is due to the high amount of data. In smaller projects we didn't have any problems

### "Sift Social Text Quickly After Learning Curve "

November 7, 2019

4.0

Tweet content aggregation, organization, and analysis for marketing.

Pros

This application makes light work of text content aggregation, cleaning, and organization, which is especially valuable to social media analysts in their social listening efforts.

Cons

There is a substantial learning curve to using this program. Aligning the feeds is not user-friendly for first timers, and I think this could be streamlined a bit more.

### "Using DiscoverText for Scraping Twitter data and Textual Analysis"

August 25, 2022

5.0

I'm primarily looking at coding and textual analysis of hashtag data. The meta data features are an excellent add on.

Pros

The software is very user friendly. It is easy to navigate by self and the tutorials are a great help for any novice user to get started with it. Excellent resources provided in terms of various usages of the software.

Cons

The only thing I think the software needs to upgrade is the size of data we can upload on DiscoverText using JASON files format.

### "Great research tool!"

April 29, 2019

5.0

Great! Would highly recommend this for researchers and students!

Pros

DiscoverText was amazing for collecting and analyzing Twitter data. I used this software to complete my graduate research and I'm so thankful for the ease and functionality of this product. I especially love that it keep my data up to date and accurate with what was currently published on Twitter, if a tweet was deleted after my initial data collection, DiscoverText reflected that!

Cons

I struggled to grasp the machine learning tool. I tried to train it by coding at least 10% of my data and then applying the UClassify feature but every time I tried my data was miscoded.

### "Hashtag analysis"

July 27, 2018

5.0

It was one of the analysis softwares to experience. It should work for my project but there are some areas where I can not really operationalize

Pros

Filtering Arabic language support De-duplication

Cons

Low storage unit No Geo analysis High price for data retrieving

Review Source

Response from Texifter

August 10, 2018

Hi Khamis, We are one of the few services that handle non-English text analysis (including Arabic) on par with English ones. As you¿ve discovered, although ¿geo:¿ rules can be very useful for selecting specific data, they can also severely restrict the quantity of data you may receive. For example, the place, place\_country, and has\_geo rules could eliminate 99% of the tweets because geo data is extremely rare in Twitter. Also, geo data was not captured in the early years of Twitter and are a relatively recent feature. These are limitations of the Twitter source data and not of our service. If you find that the number of estimated activities is very low, consider removing a rule and reevaluating the results.

Pros

This software allows researcher to group data allowing for more fine tuned analysis. really like deduplication of data.

### "I just used this software for working in some project in my college, and i will use that again!"

January 23, 2018

5.0

I passed an exam working with this software, and i will use it again for my thesis. It's easy to organize all the data and to interact with the various social media.

Pros

\- Lot of function - Nice graphics easy to deal with - Easy coding functions - Very good integration with various sites and program (like excel)

Cons

\- In my language (italian) the automathic coding for the dataset were a bit unprecise - Sometimes menues can be difficult to use

Thanks for the review Massimiliano. I would be happy to schedule a web meeting to go over some of the ways to improve the performance of the machine classifier. Some of the key tips: - A short code list (2 codes is the best) - A balanced training set - Strategic sampling and training - Coding off a list I wrote an article on LinkedIn about this: http://bit.ly/2F7slNU ~Stu

### "I have used DiscoverText for gathering data for qualitative social media analysis"

December 15, 2017

5.0

Pros

It is relatively easy to use and allows to export data into appropriate formats. Data collection is easy to set up.

Cons

The platform was under threat of no longer getting access to the full stream of the Twitter Firehose that is increasing its costs. It would have been a shame had DiscoverText disappeared. Twitter should not close down, but open up access to publicly relevant data.

### "Great for getting research question defined"

May 7, 2019

4.0

It is really easy to use. I found it helpful to get my research question started by looking at particular reactions to particular news stories. Unfortunately there is not a more conclusive deal with social media sites to be able to go further back in time to analyze tweets/posts. While this is certainly not the fault of DiscoverText, it does somewhat limit the capacity. However, if you are timely with your use, this is still a great tool.

Pros

There is great connectivity to Twitter, which is important if you are trying to gauge a particular reaction to a particular moment.

Cons

I wish there were ways to go further into previous tweets.

### "Exceptional experience. DiscoverText makes me a better researcher."

December 17, 2017

Exports Twitter data in a format that I can work on for research.

Pros

Ability to export data from Twitter in a format that people like me (ie, not computer science) can easily access and analyze for research. I research how political journalists and politicians use Twitter and I would have no affordable academic access to the underlying Twitter data without DiscoverText.

The function to visualize and filter my Twitter data. The manual for the software is convenient to use.
