Pendo provides everything product teams need to not only set up and configure usage analytics but also to level up product management skillsets with their high quality, often free, courses. We have learned so much about our users and have improved our in-app experience with targeted guides and a resource center all without dev resources.

Pros

I absolutely love that it enables not just the product team but the whole business to truly understand usage of our product at a detailed level. It quantifies adoption in a way that removes all recency bias. The analytics interface is simple and powerful. The in-app guides are incredibly valuable for warnings, tool tips, onboarding walk-throughs all without wasting engineering resources to build. Customer Support and the Accounts teams are wonderful humans and provide a valuable experience even when things go wrong.

Cons

The only draw back is that feature and page tagging can be tedious and take awhile. But I do like that I control what is tagged or not tagged and tracked. Most things do not require any code updates on my end, but some do which can be annoying for my specific industry who upgrade slowly. Lastly, the subscription cost is quite high, but the value is there. It just takes some work to prove it to leadership when the cost seems overwhelming.

Pendo was much more "put together" and a complete product with all the security and quality requirements we needed for our highly regulated industry. We also needed to be able to manage the installation completely by the product team with minimal engineering support.

I use Pendo since 2018. Overall, Pendo has helped us move from opinion-driven discussions to data-driven decisions about UX decisions. We use it to validate whether new features are actually being adopted, identify friction points, and trigger in-app messages or surveys at the right moments in a user’s journey. The combination of behavioral analytics, NPS/feedback collection, and in-app guidance in one place makes it easier for product, UX, and customer success to stay aligned. There are definitely areas where the UI and reporting could be more intuitive, but once the core setup is in place, Pendo becomes a reliable part of our product decision-making process.

Pros

Pendo gives us a clear, consolidated view of how customers actually use our product—what they click, where they drop off, and which features drive the most value. The path, funnel, and cohort reports make it easy to answer questions that used to require custom analytics work. I like that non-technical teammates can create in-app guides, tooltips, and surveys without engineering support, which speeds up experimentation. The segmentation options are strong, so we can target messages by account tier, behavior, or region instead of blasting everyone. And the last one THE DARK THEMING, allowing teams to support any theme personalization without needing of code change. Overall, it feels like good value for money because it replaces several separate tools (analytics, surveys, and basic onboarding) with a single standalone platform.

Cons

The biggest drawback is the learning curve! there are a lot of options, and it takes time to understand which reports and filters to use for different questions. Implementation and tagging can also be a bit technical, so you still need initial engineering support to get clean data. Some of the more advanced dashboards and exports feel a little rigid, and customizing reports beyond the built-in templates can be tedious. Thanks to Pendo MCP where my team would leverage the pendo metrics through any LLM's.

Overall, my experience with Pendo has been very positive. From onboarding through daily use, the platform has been reliable, easy to work with, and impactful. It consistently helps our team better understand user behavior and improve the product experience, and support has been strong whenever we’ve needed it.

Pros

Pendo has been incredibly valuable for product analytics and informing product decisions. I especially appreciate how easy it is to create and deploy in-app guides. The guide builder is intuitive and allows us to quickly support users at the right moment without requiring engineering support, which has been a huge win for adoption and engagement.

Cons

One limitation is within polls and surveys, specifically the lack of certain question types. For example, multi-select response options aren’t currently supported, which can make collecting more nuanced feedback challenging.

Extremely positive. We have utilized a Technical Account Manager which has transformed our relationship with Pendo and considerably improved the value we get from the platform.

Pros

Proactive and helpful customer support, provides a central place to understand and communicate with users. Provides value to the whole organization not just Product. Pendo continue to innovate and bring out improvements across their product suite regularly.

Cons

The UI can be complex for casual and non-technical users. CSMs often struggle to get to grips with Segments and Reports. New features often come at an increased cost.

Pros

Pendo is outstanding technology, extremely intuitive and very, very powerful. The best part of the technology is its full suite, 360 functionality for analytics, user guidance, and feedback. It has a wide range of applications not only in product, but also in customer success, training, and business ops.

Cons

Pendo is expensive with a capital E. This is probably the one major thing. And this is a filler sentence to meet Capterra's 100 character limit for this question.

Overall, I would happily recommend Pendo, it's a product person's product, and lots of time and effort have been put into making it useful to Product Managers. There is a wealth of collectable data, which at times makes it hard to decipher unless you have very clear tests you want to perform. The templates are great and make life a lot easier, especially for those just starting to use them.

Our overall experience with Pendo has been phenomenal. From cusotmer service to functionality, could not be happier with the platform.

Pros

Pendo is absolutely essential to our business and customer retention and is probably the biggest bang for our buck product that we have. It gives us data insights for all of our users, so that we can make sure that our customers are actually using our products and having a good experience while doing so. It allows us to see detailed reports on software usage for our customers and easily send surveys for product improvements. Phenomenal product.

Cons

Pendo is amazing. I wish it had more functionality from a project management standpoint, but that truly would just be a nice to have. Very happy with it overall.

Pendo helped us with user onboarding by pointing out what’s confusing and where users abandon. The in-app polls also provided us with insight we wouldn’t have had if we only used email surveys.

Pros

I like that I can launch tooltips, walkthroughs, and surveys right inside the product without bugging engineers. It’s perfect for onboarding and learning how users feel in the moment.

Cons

Analytics side isn’t as robust as the likes of Amplitude and it can be a bit tricky to tag up elements when your app evolves frequently.

Pendo.io is great! Our team uses it to track customer visits and create push pop ups to users and accounts (request to complete surveys or that payments are in arrear.

We use Pendo.io to track users on the platform - see how often they visit and determine whether they're going to churn.

Cons

Nothing to say here - I think this is a really great tool. It's tracking ability helps notify us whether a client is not using the product - i.e. informing us we need to reach out and see if there's any more training or products we can suggest to help them use the software.

From a developer's perspective, it is easy to integrate Pendo into our application. I like that the process is seamless and works well for keeping track of analytics. From a product manager's perspective, it helps save developer resources because widgets can easily be injected into the application without any developer intervention.

Pros

It is easy to integrate and it provides a good way to see how often a user has interacted with our application.

Cons

If you want to add widgets to your website from Pendo, it is not intuitive how this can be done. Also, the widgets appear over top buttons and other elements on page. I had to redeploy and change the layout of the page to avoid this from happening.

Pros

Pendo is easy to navigate and easy to get enough evidence to understand different patterns. The analytics are clear with it, and the chances of reaching the appropriate improvements are doubled. I like the ease of requesting targeted information, and I find it very expressive of the behaviors we are studying. It is great that all the analytics are presented on dashboards that include organized tables and graphs, and we can easily include them in our presentations.

Cons

I did not find anything that could be considered difficult, and linking and identifying patterns across different reports is very easy.

We now use it across several products in the MailUp Group (https://mailupgroup.com). For example, beyond using it for product analytics, we were able to stop using other applications for both in-app guides and NPS tracking, and we now use Pendo for that both in MailUp (https://www.mailup.com) and BEE Pro (https://beefree.io). It's certainly not inexpensive, but it gives the Product and Product Marketing teams tools that are crucial to their work. So, money well spent in my view.

Pros

What's unique and really useful about Pendo is that it combines product analytics, in-app guides & Net Promoter Score tracking, all under one roof. This allows you to show custom messages just to certain audiences (e.g. I see that some customers did not yet try feature ABC, so I show them a Guide to trigger adoption), and see NPS scores for different segments of users (e.g. what's the NPS for customers that never use feature ABC? What's the score for those that use feature ABC all the time?). That provides incredible insights.

Cons

First of all let me say that the company has come a long way. Pendo is growing a ton and it shows. They're constantly improving the platform, so we're confident that flaws will be corrected over time. That said, in our experience setting things up takes some time (and the concept of "Feature" is not immediately clear to newcomers: it actually means "UI element"), and until recently there were some annoying productivity issues (e.g. you could not quickly clone a segment, resulting in potentially lots of repeat tasks just to create two similar segment of users: now this has been resolved!). Improvements still need to be made for multi-language applications (e.g. different Guides for different users that speak different languages).

We jumped into investing the use of the Pendo platform believing it would help us better understand our customers and raise our engagement with them. We've been very please with the ability to do that as well as enhance the experience of our application to our customers and customize communications and interactions that have never been possible in our software.

Pros

Even before the software, I've been very impressed by Pendo's customer support model. The proactive interaction we received in onboarding and ongoing support has been something I've consistently referred back to our own client services team as a model for how things are done. They have multiple team members accountable to different actions/experiences with us and they do it in a fluid fashion where it never feels like anyone drops the ball. As for the software, I pull up our dashboard every morning and look at our customer interaction from the day before. Its very simple to follow individual customer behavior as well as overall trends. Per the recommendation of their onboarding team, I and 2 other team members sit down weekly for a Pendo meeting to talk about how we are using the data to further our company and what our next initiatives are Pendo also integrates well with both Salesforce and Tableau, 2 other platforms we use extensively. Some of the visualizations that lack in the application, we can customize to our needs using Tableau

Cons

There are some small quirks that we haven't worked our way around yet. We get a lot of community feedback from the Pendomonium Slack channel, but sometimes us and others in that community feel like we are trying to group solve problems rather than Pendo coming out with a simple solution.

Fantastic sales cycle, great CSM team and communication. We were pretty much completely onboarded (self-onboarded) when we finally signed and were given an Onboarding coordinator. His sessions were useful and still added value even though we'd figured the majority of it out on our own during the sales trial period. We're full steam ahead and looking for more and more way Pendo can help us know what we didn't know.

Pros

I love Pendo. I love it so much, I asked Capterra to add it to their software list just so I could review it (and no, I don't work there). We've used Pendo for the last 10 months and it couldn't be going better. We are a SaaS company and Pendo is giving our Product, Analytics, Customer Success and Onboarding Teams insights that were not previously possible. We leverage Pendo for user engagement, onboarding (tool tips, guides, popups etc.) and analytics. It is a smooth platform with great support and it works great. Couldn't recommend it more.

Cons

It's not necessarily a knock on Pendo so much as it is a knock on the quality of the development of your own site that Pendo sits on top of. If you have some questionable code, you may have a tricky time getting the rules and feature tagging completed exactly as you'd like. It helps if you have a knowledge of HTML and CSS to get around any of these pitfalls, otherwise you'll have to work with your Dev teams to get your internal code issues sorted out so that Pendo can work properly.

With Pendo we have carefully followed how and to what extent our advertisements on social media can win customers' trust. The speed with which we can Pendo go from raw data to actionable insights is a crucial feature, and the quick search feature integrated with all platform options is excellent. Pendo will provide numerous opportunities to sort results based on product type, target groups, and customer behavior, displayed on customized dashboards and easy-to-understand reports. I enjoy that every minor change can be discussed with my colleagues, which helps us find answers and set accurate timelines for implementing required corrective actions.

Cons

Mastering the platform takes a lot of effort. For example, sometimes you notice an error in the collected data or do not receive what you're looking for, perhaps because the user wasn't able to set it up properly, which throws data off.

Pros

The product analytics are great and are very robust in the data they provide. Their tooltip and pop up functionality for user onboarding were very useful.

Cons

It was so difficult to implement. We are an SPA and use Shadow Dom. This greatly limited how we could use Pendo and it required a lot of custom work from our Dev Team. When reaching out to support for help we would wait weeks to get an answer. We did pay for implementation but it was a smaller package so we only received an hour with a specialist to install our snippet. We were not able to get help with anything else during that implementation cycle.
